Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return V2

Roxas turned his head forward again, staring down at the floor as he felt Namine rub his back. That was definitely helping, the boy taking in a deep breath again as another surge of pain ran from his shoulder through his arm. The disinfectant hadn't gotten rid of the pain unfortunately, but he knew he would have to fight through that. Literally. Smith needed to be caught, and soon.

 

Namine exhaled a soft breath, the motion continuing. In the silence, she couldn't help but feel uncomfortable. She knew what Roxas was thinking about, because the same thing was on her mind as well. Smith. She had thought she had left him in her past, but now that he was back, all her old feelings were coming to the surface. Fear, sadness, and uncertainty. Had she really left this behind her, or had she been lying to herself?

 

Roxas winced slightly, feeling the air hit his wound once more. It really needed covered up. "Hey, Nam?" he said, turning his head to look at his shoulder. His wound was no longer covered in blood, but it was still ugly. "...Could you patch this up for me? We need to head over to Kairi's soon." He'd forgotten about that until now, and he wondered how long it had been since he made that phone call. Surely it was almost time to go.

 

Namine bit her lip lightly, no longer rubbing Roxas's back as she abandoned her thoughts. "I don't think I have enough gauze," she said softly. She didn't have much at all, and since the wound was on Roxas's shoulder, it would require much more than what she had.

 

Roxas looked away from his shoulder and glanced up at the girl standing behind him, then turning his head to stare at the supplies she brought with her. It didn't look like there was much left, like she said. He knew why; he had to use some of it after what Jeff did to Namine a while ago. He furrowed his eyebrows and subconsciously brought his hand to his upper arm, feeling pain again from his shoulder. "Okay. Never mind," Roxas said then.

 

Namine nodded slightly, bringing her hand off Roxas's arm as she fully stood up. She had been kneeling down before, which had helped with the dizziness. But now that she was upright, she felt awful again. She kept telling herself not to pay attention to it, but it was hard not to when she felt so awful.

 

Roxas sensed Namine moving out of the corner of his eye, and he figured it was a good time to put his shirt and jacket back on. He saw them on the floor in front of the couch, where he had set them before. He let go of his arm and grabbed his black zip-up, starting to put it back on.

 

Namine sat down on the arm of the couch, her gaze staying down on the floor. Why did Smith still have to enjoy torturing her? She remembered that he was evil and cold hearted, but after all this time, he still hated her. And after all this time, you're still afraid of him, she mentally countered, the girl frowning at the thought.

 

Roxas clenched his teeth when the fabric of his black shirt touched his shoulder, realizing that it was damp with blood. He didn't care, though, zipping it up to his neck by the pendant again. Once that was on, he bent down and grabbed his jacket. They needed to get to Kairi's soon.

 

You never got over him, Namine told herself, feeling a negative attitude. You were lying to yourself if you thought you could ever move on fully from him. She shook her head slightly, her eyes shutting when her eyes became moist. She didn't want to think about that; those were awful, frightening thoughts.

 

Roxas stood up from his spot on the edge of the coffee table, the injury on his right side throbbing at the movement. He wondered how that was... The boy shifted his jacket into his left hand, using his other hand to lift up his shirt. A bruise, just as he thought. Fantastic.

 

But Namine couldn't help but question herself. She had believed something that was untrue, that Smith was gone forever. He was back now, and that fact threatened to shatter every other thought she had concerning him. She thought he was somebody in her past, who no longer had the power to affect her. Apparently she had been wrong in thinking that way.

 

Roxas lowered his shirt and focused on putting his jacket on, being careful just as he had when he took it off. His shoulder still hurt, but at least he wasn't covered in blood anymore. He lightly tugged at the hem of his cream-colored top once it was on, then lifting his eyes to Namine. Immediately, he forgot his injuries and stepped toward her, lightly setting his hand on her shoulder.

 

Namine opened her eyes and gazed at the ground, feeling that her eyes were still moist. She didn't want Roxas to see that, though she knew that he had his eyes on her. She just wanted to go to sleep, wake up and find out that none of this was really happening. Of course, nothing could change reality.

 

Roxas gently squeezed Namine's shoulder, wishing there was something he could say to her. But he said all he could earlier, and all he could do now was hope that she trusted his judgement. "...We should go," Roxas said softly, knowing that it had been almost an hour now, which was when he agreed to meet Sora and Riku at Kairi's.

 

Namine nodded faintly, glancing at Roxas before she looked back down at the ground. "My coat is in my bedroom," she said, knowing that she would need to go back and get that before she and Roxas left. "Yours is still by the door, if you want it." He had left it there when he left yesterday, before the three boys had gone to the Realm of Darkness.

 

Roxas shook his head, lowering his hand from Namine's shoulder and back to his side. "I don't need it," he said, thinking of how the cold weather had barely affected him when he was running here earlier. Regardless, if they were going to track down Smith immediately, it would just be in the way.

 

Namine rose to her feet then, turning her head towards the hall. "Be right back," she said quietly, starting towards her bedroom. She would slip on a coat and shoes, and then she would be ready to go. She didn't know what to expect when she got to Kairi's, but she was sure that her friend was safe; she had Sora and Riku looking out for her.

 

Roxas watched Namine go, his hands naturally forming loose fists at his sides. While she went toward the hall, he went toward the foyer to wait. He had forgotten to take his shoes off when he was in a hurry to get to Namine's, so he didn't have to worry about them.

 

Namine shed a few tears now that she was out of Roxas's sight, the girl not bothering to wipe at them as she entered her room. She went straight for her closet, reaching in and grabbing a coat. She put on the black jacket and buttoned it up before she went back into the closet, putting on a pair of black boots that didn't clash with her denim blue jeans. Of course, she wasn't worried about clashing; her clothes just naturally matched.
