Fast Food Madness: The Epic Return V2

Roxas nodded, letting his eyes drift to the table, where Kairi was listening in through his hidden phone. "So...did you meet anybody new?" he asked, considering he didn't really want to talk about the Heartless problem.

 

Sora shrugged lightly, shutting his eyes as he tried to remember. He had only seen old friends in Hollow Bastion, and he thought he faintly remembered seeing somebody in Christmas Town when he was--"I mostly saw old friends in Hollow Bastion. That was about it," he said, not allowing himself to finish his own thought. He didn't think about that. Ever.

 

Roxas tilted his head to the side slightly. "But you did see some, right?" he asked. "That was about it" made him think that there was a possibility he could have seen a few new people. For Kairi's sake, he was going to find out.

 

Once again, Sora shrugged lightly, opening his eyes and looking down at the ground. As far as he could remember, he only saw that one person in Christmas Town. But he wasn't going to bring up the place; he hated the memories he had created there. He already hated that Roxas was unknowingly making him think of it, which explained why his shoulders tensed up a little despite his shrug.

 

Roxas arched an eyebrow slightly when he didn't get a direct answer; a shrug wasn't quite what he had expected. "...Sora?" he said, at the same time encouraging his friend to give him a direct reply.

Kairi stared at the wall in front of her as she waited on the other line, having heard the conversation up to this point. Why wasn't Sora giving Roxas an answer?

 

"I saw someone in Christmas Town," Sora finally said, lifting his gaze and looking up at Roxas when he realized his friend wasn't going to give up. "That was the only time I saw somebody I had never seen before." And that was only for about five seconds, he thought to himself, frowning on the inside.

 

"Really?" Roxas asked, actually a little interested. "Was it a girl or a guy?" He felt he was getting somewhere, but slowly.

"Somebody he's never seen before?" Kairi whispered to herself. And in Christmas Town? She'd never been there, but if he'd met someone there...there were always mistletoes. Kairi pressed her lips together and continued to listen, hearing Roxas's question.

 

Sora's gaze fell back to the ground, the brunet honestly having a hard time remembering. He had been in a world of pain at the time, so he hadn't been paying attention. Heh, at that point, it was lucky he was aware enough to realize Riku took him into Santa's Workshop. "I think it was a boy," he said slowly, faintly remembering the voice of the person he had seen.

 

"...You 'think'?" Roxas wasn't sure what to believe on that note, but he was getting suspicious. He could only wonder how Kairi was feeling at this point; Sora was standing pretty close to where his phone was behind the plant. She could probably hear everything.

 

Sora shrugged lightly, lifting his hand and running it over the back of his head. "I wasn't paying attention," he said honestly. "I was distracted." Those things were both true, though there was more to it than that. However, he wasn't about to put the memories into words; he didn't think about it himself, so there was no way he would tell Roxas about it.

 

Roxas's brow only remained arched at what he was hearing. "You mean you were too distracted to pay attention to the person's gender?" he asked. He was starting not to believe Sora anymore. Maybe Kairi was right with her suspicions. Maybe Sora did meet somebody else.

Kairi was slightly surprised by what she was hearing. She wasn't sure how a person couldn't pay attention to somebody else's gender when they met them. It was pretty obvious, wasn't it?

 

Sora brought his shoulder off the wall, shifting on his feet when he heard Roxas's question. He wished his friend would back off; he had no idea what he was getting himself into. "I was distracted," he repeated simply, looking up and meeting Roxas's big blue eyes with his own.

 

"It's not like you to get that distracted," Roxas said, shaking his head as he stared at Sora. "Tell me what happened." There was more to the story than he was getting here, and he wasn't sure that he liked the fact that Sora wasn't being honest...if he was being truthful at all.

 

Sora clenched his hands in fists at his sides, just because he was so tense that the Keyblades wanted to appear. He couldn't do that, though; he and Roxas were on good terms now, and he didn't want to ruin that. "It's not something I talk about," he said shortly.

 

"Why not?" Roxas asked, truly curious. He wasn't sure how Kairi was reacting to this, but he was wanting to get to the bottom of it.

Kairi's lips remained pressed together as she listened in on the conversation. She had to admit, this was wrong. But she couldn't help it. Sora sounded like he was getting defensive now, and she was scared as to why.

 

Sora shook his head, his eyes wandering down to the ground at the motion. "It's something I'm ashamed of," he said, his tone hard. It was one of his weakest moments ever, and he didn't like admitting that to himself, so there wasn't a chance he would say it to Roxas. Drop it, Roxas, he silently told him, though he knew his friend couldn't hear his thoughts.

 

Roxas didn't say anything, hoping his friend would continue. The fact that Sora was ashamed of it made it seem awful, and he glanced in the direction of his phone, hoping Kairi wasn't immediately jumping to conclusions. Roxas was trying not to, but the more Sora said, the harder it was.

Upon hearing Sora's words, Kairi closed her eyes. Was she going to hear it? Was she going to hear Sora say the words?

 

"That's all I'm going to say," Sora declared, lifting his eyes and seeing Roxas in front of him. "Like I said, I don't talk about it." He preferred not to think about it either, but Roxas was making that impossible for him at the moment. It was frustrating, yes, but he would take out his frustration later when he was by himself.

 

"Well why not?" Roxas asked, looking up at Sora. He wanted to know what exactly he couldn't be told, and why. Was it a lack of trust? Yeah, things had been rocky when it came to their friendship, but he didn't think that was a reason to not trust each other.

 

"I already told you," Sora said stiffly, his frustration boiling on the inside. He wouldn't talk about it because he was ashamed of his own weakness, and how the Heartless had convinced him that it was Kairi. He didn't know if he could ever forgive himself for that.
