I'm asking a straight question. How is that jumping to conclusions? What you said sounded like you'd already made up your mind, even with the "huh?" tacked rhetorically on the end.

Having watched all three trailers at this point... You're loopy. I'm not even gonna dance around it. You have to be straight bonkers to even go that route. Gears looks as dull as it's ever been. God of War looks like a cross between Epic Mickey and the latest Prince of Persias, but worse than both. RE6 actually looks like a promising apology for RE5.

And what's this malarkey about betrayal? Has Resident Evil wronged you, Chris? Because I always figured it was going to edge slowly away from its horror roots. The Mercenaries mode was the earliest sign of that. Hell, I'd love it if they made a full-scale console game out of that whole experience, but that probably wouldn't fly. Too arcade-style.

Well that's all I was responding to, so if that wasn't the intent, then no problems here. Either way, after seeing the RE6 trailer I'm honestly crossing my fingers for it. Maybe it doesn't need a rest after all.

But do you understand that it will never be like other actions games unless they forsake the given battle system entirely? It was built from the ground that (I'm assuming) the very first game established; it's always been a little different. Controls were stilted before, and each RE in recent years has gradually loosened them up, but it remains distant from the first-person style that CoD uses and Gears nearly uses. In that system, you're essentially a wildly rotating turret; even recent Resident Evil titles make you acutely aware of the limits of your body, both in turn control and flexibility. The quick-time events during gameplay are short and return control to the player after a dodge or a punch, which is something I've always appreciated; they're a reward for quick reflexes. The cutscene-style versions were almost nonexistent in RE5, so that's essentially a non-issue unless RE6 intends to return them. The over-the-shoulder style allows for a wider range of techniques to be employed without making the player nauseous, the mix of careful shooting and quick, short burst QTEs is engaging, and the only true stumbling block, the blocky movement, is being phased away little by little, though not in such a way as to invoke the spinning turret metaphor above. I don't get what's not to like here. It's not a stupid action game, it's a good one. I could say that about RE5 and while I'm reserving my judgment on RE6, it looks only to improve on what exists. It's not CoD, it's not Gears, and I don't imagine it ever will be, design changes or not.

But that element has been present in many RE titles. That was my point. It's not as if they pulled this out of the blue; there has always been a fast-paced action element to the gameplay. It just shone through in subtler ways.

This is pretty much the reason why I don't watch it anymore and just read recaps.

Count on Nintendo to save the day again.
Not that it was hard of course.
