That might be a reason people pick up some drugs, notably alcohol and cigarettes as a teenager, but it's still a rather limited explanation. Teenagers are faced a great deal of peer pressure and often live in an environment where doing certain drugs is considered "cool," or at least, they feel they must do it in order to fit in. In adulthood... it's just not the same. They still may be pressured into participating in drug-related activities, but if they have not done drugs yet at that point they probably know how to say no & overcome peer pressure.

Even for teenagers, they don't do it because they're trying to fit in. Luxord brings up the case of poor mental health care in this country -- so many teens are abusing drugs meant for medicinal or psychological reasons because they don't have another way to cope with whatever problem they have that requires the drugs.

Even for problems as benign as a breakup, would you say?

There lies the problem, people think they can label an issue and they think that across the board everyone will think/react the same way. A break up can be no big deal to others, but to some people it could be life changing.

That isn't how the world works, but to answer your question. Yes people can turn to drugs because of that.

Be wary of anything habit forming, regardless of illegality.

Beyond that, do what you wish with informed consent.

A person must be allowed to eat unhealthily, kill themselves, or poison themselves for the side effects if they believe it is worth it.

It's a person's choice at the end of the day to choose whether they wish to utilise drugs, be it illegal and/or socially acceptable.

But in all honesty, I'm a little more worried with how easily available it is to get "legal" highs (disguised either as some forms of fertiliser/bath salts etc), especially when you think of how one can purchase it online and/or buy it off the corner store. As some might already know, the chemical components that make up the product keeps getting messed around with, so it can maintain legality of being sold in certain countries.

I'm quite worried at how some individuals don't realise at times how infinitely more dangerous some legal highs are as opposed to the more known drugs. They don't know the side effects in the short and long term... And how it could affect them physically and emotionally in the future.

At least you know what to expect when you're taking known drugs, be it illegal or socially acceptable.
