    Well i was playing KHII... yet again. And as oblivious as i already am, i just noticed the transformation when Ansem the Wise takes off the bandages and "darkness" leaves his face.
    I am not certain as to how that happened...

    What "darkness" are you referring to?

    Are you talking about the darker color that's there when his mask is on?
    If so, I think that's just a shadow or something.

    Yes. When he takes it off, there's a "cloud of particles" that dissipate. Also when he has his mask on, you can clearly see there is no goatee. I wonder if he is the opposite of Riku, covered he is "Xehanort" whereas Riku is himself when blindfolded...

    I figured he just used darkness to coat his face somehow, make it even harder to figure out who was under the mask. How he did it, I find it irrelevant, just a game plot mechanic.

    He was in the realm of darkness for quite awhile and its said he also gained dark powers like being able to open up a corridor of darkness. He must've put on the red bandages on when he was in the dark realm and I guess that explains why when he finally took his mask off, traces of darkness appear

    I just saw it as more of a disguise. Maybe just another dark mask under his bandages...

    I just always thought he used the power of darkness to change his skin color so no one would know who he was, causing him to look black.

    Its most likely because of the darkness within him and that he wanted revenge. It could also have been a disguise seeing as from what Xehanort had said before Ansem the Wise died made it sound like that he did not know it was him originally. But I can't help but feel like the organization had said something about him in COM.
