Is the HDMI port on your video card or your motherboard?

    Motherboard.

I don't have a graphics card (another name for video card, right?). There's one built into the motherboard.

Are you using the TV as the primary display when you connect the HDMI cable, or are you displaying on both the monitor and the TV?

    Both.

However, if I unplug the the display cable from the monitor, the TV becomes the primary, but the sound still comes out of the computer speakers.

If no one has replied with four bumps then we're probably not sure. I'd suggest trying the support forums for your motherboard manufacturer or something.

It's not a *huge* issue, by the way, since my TV and computer are pretty close to each other, but the sound is what would be different.

Anyway, what would this have to do with the motherboard and where would I find out the brand? I took a look at Computer -> System Properties, but saw nothing on the motherboard.

    Thanks for the response. c:

    Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-MA785GT-UD3H

The HDMI port is on your motherboard so that's what you should be troubleshooting, I'm not sure this is a software problem.
