For those of you who have not seen the show Deadliest Warrior: Its a way of comparing two warriors who have never met on the battle field, and comparing them against eachother in a fair and reasonable way and in turn figuring out who is the deadliest.

I dont want this thread to boil down to "Well ______ is stronger than _____ because he's epic!" It would be more reasonable to list thier powers and abilities and limitations. Its good to point out your weaknesses in your oponents abilities. Also, source any material you post. For example, don't say, "_____ is imortal because he can't be killed!" but instead, "_____ is importal because on chapter xxxx of part xxxx he did this, and revealed he couldn't be killed.

In this matchup, we compare Cloud Strife, the protaganist of Final Fantasy VII. A man twisted by memories Zack, who stood against Sephiroth in the final climatic battle. Wielding his buster sword, and Materia, he was able to overcome overwhelming odds. Standing in oposition against him we have Squall, the protagonist of Final Fantasy VIII. Silent and cold, serving as a mercinary, he eventually defeats Ultimecia and prevents her from destroying time itself.

We will be comparing these two warriors in:
    Weaponry
    Magical Abilities
    Toughness
    Tactics and Strategies
Limits (Seperate Category from Weaponry and Magic)
Combat Consistancy (New category, want to see how it works)

If anyone else things that something which would affect the outcome of the battle should be added to the list, please post so we can add it.

Any canonical appearance by either of these characters can be added to the list. I'd be willing to say that Kingdom Hearts is not canon, but Dissidia is (Since its plot intertwines with FF1). But if you are willing to debate either please do.

Now, aside from Dissidia, the universes they hail from have never crossed, but even then, there is no record of a result between these two fighting. So therefore, they have never met on the battle field. Now, WHO IS DEADLIEST!

I'm not going to go into some analysis of Squall as I know only a little of him and SeeD. As for Cloud...

Weaponry: For Cloud, he might have the advantage here. Squall has shown himself to be extremely talented as he mastered the use of a weapon that's well...difficult to master. Cloud on the other hand has the Buster Sword and now uses the Fusion Swords which both would take more than just skill to use. Cloud's weapon just has more use than Squall's. The gunblade, if I'm not mistaken, makes a sword of explosion on impact to increase damage while Cloud just uses the extreme weight of his weapon and his sheer strength to deliver blows that would simply overpower something like a gunblade. As far as I know of, the gunblade only has that function while Cloud has a new weapon that splits into several swords which can really screw someone over if he starts using two or more blades in combat. As for the gunblade...that little explosion it makes wouldn't do anything to the Buster Sword/Fusion Swords if it made contact as the blade is just so damn strong. Overall, Cloud's new weapon has more practical use than Squall's.

    Cloud has the better weapon.

Magical Abilities: Cloud definitely doesn't have magic on his own without Materia but from the Materia seen in the FFVII universe...it can pretty much overpower everything. I don't know much about Squall...I'm going to assume because it's a Final Fantasy game that Squall pretty much has access to boss-crushing magical abilities at the end-game as well so this should be a tie.

    Tie!

Toughness: Okay, this is actually an easy one. There's no doubt in my mind that Squall has skill and is very much just above peak human level in terms of toughness and etc. Cloud on the other hand is not entirely human. First things first. Due to the events of Crisis Core/The Last Order Cloud already has the skill of the best regular SOLDIER ever, Zack Fair. I know there's going to be some hate but you honestly can't deny Zack wasn't the best regular SOLDIER seeing as how he bested people who were experimented on with Jenova's cells(Angeal and Genesis) with relative ease. So Cloud already has that level of skill down. That's not it though, he's more than some regular SOLDIER. Unlike Zack, other experiments done on Cloud were successful meaning he's stronger than anyone in SOLDIER by a longshot. A SOLDIER is already an enhanced human being so it's basically like giving a superhuman EXTRA superhuman powers. Cloud has definitely got the edge up on Squall here just because of the sheer nature of SOLDIER. Also, Cloud has been stabbed repetitively and has come out of it fighting strong. Last I remember, Squall was going unconscious from getting blasted in the stomach by some sort of Ice spell(which also leads to the "Squall Dies" theory). So....

Cloud is just simply stronger and tougher.

Tactics and Strategies: Cloud isn't an idiot, I'll give him that...but he isn't some strategic genius. In a fight he's great but from what I know his basic strategy is usually, "My skill will always work!" On the other hand, Squall was promoted to a Commander or something at SeeD...I really have to give this one to Squall.

    Squall!

Limits: Squall's best limit hits 8 times AT MAX from what I remember. You also have to put in some input otherwise you won't get the best damage out of it. Cloud's best limit on the other hand hits TWICE as many times if I'm not mistaken. What else? You can't screw it up. I think Squall's deals more damage per hit but with how many times Cloud's hits...I've gotta give it to Cloud.

    Cloud!

Combat Consistency: Well...I'm not sure how exactly to go about this. Cloud's beaten his own "final boss" several times. Once was even on his own. Squall on the other hand has only shown winning against Ultimecia in a group so...Cloud wins here.

Overall, I'd say Cloud's got the edge over Squall here.

Just want to make some corrections here

Just want to note that Squall wins in Limits. Renzokuken hits 4-7 times and can branch off to Lion Heart which hits 19 times

Also I want to note that Squall gains boosts from junctioning GFs/summons although

Weaponry: I think this is a little tough. Cloud's weapon was buster sword, and it was just a giant hunk of a sword. It's weight would take damage, but it didn't seem like you could actually lift the thing unless you had some really great strength. And then with that fusion sword or whatever, it seems like it would be even heavier. I mean, technically a lot of things in that universe seem to be insane, like Cloud's sword, Sephiroth's and all the others. On the other hand, Squall's gunblade is fairly simple. It's a weapon that explodes on impact, and it's also easy to carry. We don't see it, but it looks like Squall just keeps his sword on his belt or something. And The fact that Squall mastered the gunblade, which is apparently very difficult, seems to be a plus as well. I guess I have to give it to Squall, since while he can't use multiple swords like Cloud, it doesn't always matter on the number of swords. And Squall's seems a bit more convieniant.

    Squall

Magical Abilities: Well, this one is a bit strange. I mean, in FFVII, there's materia and everything that makes magic usable. So Cloud has materia and everything, but if he didn't have that, than he wouldn't have any magical abilities. With FFVIII, magic is just a normal part of that world. We see it when Squall fights Seifer, when Selphie is trying to heal Zell in the prison, and of course everything Ultimacia does. I have to give this one to Squall, since he doesn't need anything to let him use magic

    Squall

Toughness: This one is a bit more one sided. I mean, through all of the games, how much does Cloud go through? (no, seriously, how much? I haven't played the game, only seen parts, the movie, and Dirge of Cerberus. I just know the plot mostly) But it seems to me that he can really take a beating. I mean, in Crises Core, he gets stabbed through the chest by sephiroth, and yet he still mananges to grab the sword and throw Sephiroth away. And in the movie, well, he gets beaten around a bit till the end, and even fighting Sephiroth he gets cut to ribbons. I'm amazed he's still around. Squall on the other hand, you don't see him take too much damage of anything. He gets stabbed in the chest and supposedly killed at the end of the first disk, but somehow he comes back to life. He gets electricuted, fights monsters like crazy, and things like that. But I mean, compared to Cloud, only one thing you can really consider as taking a beating. And of course I'm talking about the whole dying thing. This one I give to Cloud. If I knew how Squall lived, maybe it might go to him.

    Cloud

Tactics & Strategies: This one is Squall all the way. Cloud really doesn't seem like a strategy person. I mean, it seems more like other people come up with the plans, like Reeve, or Cid, or something. I just don't see Cloud coming up with strategies. Squall on the other hand really goes for it. I mean, throughout the game, you see him make strategies for so many things, like killing a person, making an all out battle against another Garden, and things like that. He gets this one.

    Squall

Limits: I have to say this one goes to Squall. Both have their fair share of good limits, but Squall's seem a bit more useful. Sure, Cloud has his limit, and it might hit a ton, but still, he only has like 4 or something limits. On the other hand, Squall does things like cause a huge explosion, make his sword as big as the planet, and than there's Lion Heart. His normal limit is like 5-7 hits or something, but adding Lion Heart he's really good.

    Squall

Combat Consistency: I don't know too much about this one. I can't really say which, because Cloud fights Sephiroth a number of times, and beats him on his own, yeah, but that was still one person. Technically, if he was fighting Ultimacia I don't think he would have been able to do it. Heck, Squall and Co. were only able to do it because they had to think of each other and everything like that. (I don't know, Laguna losses me at that point). So basically, they saved all of time by basically beating the odds, literally.

    I have to say Squall

    Overall winner, Squall.

I was only considering his ultimate limit alone. D: As for the second thing, I had no idea about that.

That much doesn't really affect anything. Zack has been shown to be able to easily swing around the Buster Sword with one hand and by canon, Cloud is actually physically superior than Zack. SOLDIER are stronger than regular people. Weight is not an issue for Cloud. To him, heavy weapons like the Buster Sword and Fusion Swords feel like they weigh as light as a normal sized sword. If you don't believe it, watch something like Advent Children(which is also canon). Also, the Buster Sword has been shown to be a capable shield as well in many instances, my favorite being in The Last Order where Zack puts Cloud behind the Buster Sword letting bullets just bounce off it while Zack takes care of Shinra infantry. The gunblade on the other hand really only functions as a regular sword that can deal extra damage. There's no added tactics or overall strategy to actually using it.

I'm not telling you to change your opinion. I'm just putting in my own input.

In the previous thread, Shepard was allowed to have his extremely advanced weaponry to take down his opponent. So whether or not Cloud needs Materia to do magic is not an issue. We can assume Cloud has whatever Materia he'd see fit in having on him. Therefore it doesn't matter who has the "natural gift" of magic.

Let's put it this way. Squall didn't beat his own final boss alone. ...I'm not sure if he defeated anyone significant on his own.

Cloud on the other hand beat Sephiroth twice one his own and in Advent Children he was beating the stuffings out of other "super humans" on his own. Maybe if there was a real FFVIII Compilation Squall could show how awesome he is on his own(and I'm sure it'd be epic) but right now Cloud's just got more achievements under his belt.

Oh and before anyone says anything...I'm not a FFVII fanboy. <<

A lone swordsman in black dismounts his motorcycle, equipped with a large set of swords accross his back. He walks into the inner chamber, and equips looks down at the seemingly ungaurded artifact, "Thats all there was? This is getting easier and easier."

"You don't belong here." a voice called out. From the shadows. "That doesn't belong to you." he continues, consicely lecturing the SOLDIER.

"Listen, I don't want to hurt you. Step aside." Cloud responded, looking down for some reason, avoiding eye contact. But still talking sternly. Squall draws his weapon, a gunblade, one half resembling a revolver, the other half, resembling a falchion sword. Cloud grimaces for a moment, not wanting to fight, but none the less, the decision was made, his oppoenent challenged him. Almost instantly, he draws all his swords, assembling a much larger weapon, the completed Fusion Sword.

Leon responed with Rough Divide, jumping into the air, and coming down onto his opponent like a balistic missle. Cloud blocks such a ferioucious attack, his feet not lossing traction as he slides back, but rather, the surface area of the old temple tile breaking apart. Squall bounces off and lands a fair distance away, Cloud regains his stance quickly enough to counter, swinging his sword over his head, he calls down a barrage of meteors unto his opponent. Squall is nimble enough to avoid such an attack, jumping between the meteors, he lands within striking distance of Cloud, and follows up with a slash. Cloud manages to block one blade with his armband of all things, and continues to block his followup attacks with his sword. Squall is just too nimble for Cloud carrying the heavier sword, he is slowly losing ground in a flurry of slashes from his opponent. At the end of Squalls stream of attacks, he does a 360 degree pivot, leaving a trail of red hovering orbs floating, at the end of the pivot, the blade stops aimed directly at clouds face, BANG! Cloud crumbles to the ground, taking a portion of the blast to the face. Feeling the warm sensation of blood dripping down his cheek, he regains his stance. But Squall has too much momentum, he follows up his attack with a stronger one, as Cloud stumbled reeling from his previous attack, Squall took a moment to charge his blade, allowing a large Blue Aura to form around it, drastically increasing its size.

Following up, Squall lunges forward, with the heart of a lion, he uppercuts his oppoent, leaping into the air to match his oppoenent, he continues slashing at him each slash faster than the previous, but before the last attack, he winds up, and swings his strongest attack being his final, a visible shockwave is released as it connects. In a pool of blood, Cloud lands. "Guess that was too much." Squall mumbles to himself. A smirk grows upon his face, until he realizes, his oppoenent wasnt done. Slinging his blade over his shoulder, he gives Cloud time to stand. "Lets see what you got left then."

"I got plenty." Cloud says, spitting a mouthfull of blood onto the ground. Cloud's aura suddenly changes, he glows as he lunches forward, with a heavy chop, which wasn't difficult for the relativly fresh Squall to defend, once parried, Cloud's Fusion blade triggers, splitting apart, and spreading around, Squall keeps his attention on the oppoenent directly in front of him, and with a flash, he is gone. Before Squall can retaliate, he is slashed accross the back, the side, chest face, blades comming from every direction, at increasingly alarming speeds. Once the combo is complete, Cloud lets fractions of the Fusion Sword land upon the ground. He walks over to the artifact he was commisioned to return with, and slings it over his shoulder. A moan eminates from his opponent as he walks by, the defeated Squall is unable to reach his Gunblade. Cloud looks back, letting out a sighing, he drops the artifact, and pulls out his cellphone. "Cloud is that yo-" the sweet femine voice is interupted by Clouds, "Someone's hurt, get a bed ready." "Is everything alr-" "Hurry, I'll be right there." Hanging up his phone, he returns it to its sleeve.

Lifting up the wounded SEEDling, he carries him back to his motorcycle.

The bottom line. Cloud is superhuman, Squall is Peak Human. Superhuman beats Peak Human.
