    Easy, guys...

It's a debate, not a fight. It's starting to look like the latter from the last few posts. People have their own point of view and they can express it on how they want. Either republican or democrat, and also...

You shouldn't be provoking each other either. *looking at last few posts*

Anyway, I'm just happy it's working out, Obama's already working hard and fast to change things.

I got to see the Inauguration at school...but the teacher was using a computer....there was a LOT of lag. So toward the part when Obama is giving his speech the teacher decided to listen to it over the radio. So yeah, pretty cool.

I think personally, the thing is that the major part is that it ruins what the constitution stands for. The fifth amendment is basically no torture and "innocent until proven guilty" in the United States. Which was changed with Guatanomo Bay. Also, if you want to ask for help, which I wouldn't be surprised if we do, even the biggest and strongest countries need help at one point or another, we need to repair the damage already done, including the torture and separating ourselves from the things that made the world mad at us in the first place.

Guys, do try to be nice. People have different views on this and whether you agree with them or not, too bad. Also, the 'freedom of speech' argument doesn't work. If you are rude and obnoxious, you are. No one has to deal with it. If you disagree and voice things without trying to be vindictive or hostile, people do listen more instead of writing you off.

Anyway, I really like so far the decisions Obama has done and the fact that the country seems to be loosening up some. I see people that are happy more while I am sure there are people gritting their teeth and saying he's going to ruin the country. It's nice to see though that the hate and fear mongers of the past few years finally do not have the strongest voices. I get sick of hearing bigoted and blanketed statements all of the time because some folks out there won't open their minds. For the last few days, people have been happier for the most part and the ambiance around just seems more hopeful.

I am not Republican or Democrat really because I hate titles and the fact both parties really are owned a lot by corporations. One of the things that made me surprised about Obama's campaign was that the donations did not come from mainly lobbyists. That in itself was great because he won't owe so many favors as former presidents have in the past few years. He's also smart, can speak clearly and seems to be a lot calmer and is willing to be a level head instead of a brute. Some people seem to think Obama is going to bring disaster because he's not thinking of the dangers of the country and oh no, he'll take down the defenses GWB put up. Sad to say, terrorist attacks are going to happen whether we let the government suck away our personal freedoms or not. I'd rather live as an American by the Constitution than as an oppressed person under some dictator that tricks people into believing they can ever be safe while gaining more power.

I really didn't vote for Obama because he's a guy of mixed background but to me it is a plus that says we are moving forward and a lot of people feel that momentum. It's inspiring them and some people may say 'big deal' but for some of us who are either black or of mixed backgrounds, this is a big accomplishment. I have hopes that it will make it possible that in the upcoming years we'll also see a female president that has some great ideas. I voted for Obama because I like his platform and his stance and feel he is more warm and yet can be firm on his stances and that other countries will actually want to deal with the guy because he's more tolerant of their ways of life and accepting and has a more open mind. Having an understanding of other cultures, even if they are against us...especially if they are against us, is a boon to me. We can work out problems better with someone that actually has a level voice. I'm also impressed with the staff he has chosen to be around him mostly and that he's brought in even people that do not agree with his stances so that he can hear many voices of reason instead of just a slanted side.

Going off target, but on the whole, I'm glad this day has come and I wait to see what he's going to be capable of doing. I don't expect miracles but I do see already he's working on things and hopefully he can keep the energy in himself that has inspired and motivated others to want to help. The hype energy will die down, but if he does do a good job, we're going to keep a positive energy and maybe some of those who are negative about it will also turn around and at least admit he's not so bad. The thing with Obama though is that if he does good decisions or bad, we're all going to be watching more than we have with some former presidents because of the inspiration he's given to people. If he fails, he's going to be nailed for it. If he succeeds, people are going to be dancing around. I can hope in the end that people just remember that the poor guy is not going to be perfect.

I'm not trying to sound like a jackass by saying this, but...you just wrote that it's a debate, not a fight, yet a couple of sentences later, your post reads that people have their own point of view and they can express it on how they want...kind of defeats the purpose of your whole post if you're going to write that, and debates usually are fights, seeing as though every person in the debate has their own point of view, and have the right to make their point, if they have a biased feeling against the other person's opinion, it's really hard to be nice to prove your point. Although I shouldn't have jumped in to the argument they were having, I was still just trying to prove my point, because I wanted McCain to become president really bad, so that's why I tried to stand up for my opinion on their argument. I'm not sure if that all made sense to you, but I'm sure you're capable of understanding it.

there IS a difference between a debate and a fight, you can express your opinions AND have a debate. she said what she said because they were getting at each other and taking it personal. also, being nice is still the better way at trying to prove your point because if you be mean about it, you're just going to make people angry and defensive, they wont' admit they are wrong even if they know it.

:\ I meant that they turn in to fights, not that they start out as fights...even though most of the time a lot of debates are aimed at one crowd of people trying to make them look bad.

I've been on both sides of an argument, supported and slaughtered. I can get hot-headed myself and have been rebuked before because of the way it goes. People have their own point of view and when they express it, it can get out of hand. I wasn't being mean or vindictive, I just saw it slightly sliding out of control, it wasn't one person, it was several.

Also, with Bush's approval rating when he left at 13%, which hasn't been seen since Nixon left the office in shame after resigning. There's going to be a lot of people angry and blaming him. There's going to be a lot of people against Obama and even religion. It's just a part of politics, one of the many reasons it's banned from most major conversations, especially with your boss and family.

Anyway, the reason I posted that at the end was to keep on topic, but since this is sliding off-topic again, I'm going to ask Repliku to close it. Thanks for backing me, fyi, Evil.

I debate (not fight xD) on whether to close this topic or not. Basically, guys, we're going off topic. This is a discussion on the Inauguration and such. It's not a debate on how much you can't stand Obama or Bush. I will have to start deleting topics that go off target from this point on, so that people who care about the topic actually can post to it. If you want to make a debate on the situation, someone form a thread on such a thing in the debate corner. This is just a thread in current news so it's not meant for that sort of thing. Let's get back our focus, please.

I must agree with this post. If people become mean when they try to state their points, well, it will just make things a lot worse.

Thank god it was on the holidays coz it was on a 1 am.

Anyways I do hope Obama does a good job, I mean I do believe it that he would be better than McCain, but just like what Bush did, the American president can affect other countries.

So congratulations Obama, and good luck.

I missed the inaguration because my school had to go on retreat. (I think they planned it on that day because the school is like 99% republican)

anyway for everyone who's like OMG OBAMA'S SUCH A LIAR HE SAID CHANGE WAS COMING!

Well guess what? IT'S GONNA TAKE TIME! You don't just start running around when you're a baby you have a learn how to crawl then walk and then run. I mean jeez he just got into office for pete's sake. He's not God.

All the mess that's been caused by the previous president in 2 terms is going to take a very long time to clean up. The economy may not restore itself until a little after Obama's presidency but Change doesn't always happen in an instant it could take a few years.

( oh I after the election in November in school for some reason all of the republicans just didn't talk about the election they pretended like nothing happened. It was weird)

well, people were like "i told you so" and i really didn't have anything to say to that XD besides shouting "son of a b****!!!!! when Obama won, i was pretty accepting to it as well XD

Whether or not he does change the world eventually, its what he does now. My parents are strict Republicans (I think I mentioned that before) and so I don't see much of what he does. The economy is already suffering, so if he fixes that, and I know it could take some time, then I will be happier about him becoming President.

Obama's inauguration was AWESOME! I enjoyed the fact that he wasn't afraid to step out of his escort car and walk. To me, it felt as though he was saying, "I am truly here for the people."

ok this is for everyone here, its a non profit website that went through and made a list of all the promises Obama made and the status on them. He says he wants to be held accountable for his promises and these people are holding him to his word.
