I can't say I'm not surprised that few people have mentioned this gem, but the anime is somewhat dated for the first few seasons (in terms of the quality of animation and dubbing).

You were hardly halfway through the series. Such a shame, it is. You can find it online, if ever you become desperate... free, but of considerably lower quality most probably.

Watch the ones that got recommended by the most people or people that you think know their stuff. Start with the classics, such as Trigun.

 

Oh why would you recommend a third rate dub job over the original that was immensely better acted and enjoyable?

Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni.

Literally translated, the name means "When the Cicadas Cry," and it's a really cute anime about a bunch of kids who go out every day to catch cicadas, then let them go. It also has a bunch of romance as well as some pretty good action scenes. Not much gore, but even if you want that you won't be disappointed.

Also don't watch Higurashi
DEEN is a bad anime studio and they tend to ruin everything they try to adapt. Higurashi is no exception.
If you've only watched the Higurashi anime then you essentially only know half of the actual story.

Read it instead.

Also I bolded the ones I have watched or am currently watching. Damn I need to watch more anime.

I can't take this seriously unless you actually speak Japanese. The only area that English dub is weak in is lipsynching(although there's no real way to prevent this) in my opinion but it excels in every other area! Plus Baccano is set in the US. English fits it so much better.

 

I already explained this, but I have watched both and the Japanese just seems more spot on. It just feels right to me. Can't really explain it beyond that.
