Angelic Divinity

Ren pulled her back into his embrace, "No...I don't think you'd do that. I think my subconscious is trying to tell me I know you very well. But I cannot confront Kyrios. He is my Seraph and I have to obey his orders. I don't want you to look like this. I would like to remember who I was...before."

Kiel blanched, "I'm a little more nervous about these humans."

Genesis lost his smile and examined her form, "Magic is what makes the world turn. It flows through our veins and sustains us as angels. It allows us to be the same being as you while we're on earth. Without magic...I would be mearly a shimmer of light to you."

 

kaila wrapped her arms snuggly around ren's form. It had nm't even been a day since the last time he held her like this, but she already missed it. She tipped her chin and looked into his eyes.
"kiss me. Like you really mean it."

"me too, but we have to trust them. It was yves's wish."
Tori's eyes grazed over each of the humans skeptically.

her voice was flat and she dropped her gaze as she lowered the bow.
"that's cool."
Giselle didn't seem interested in what genesis had to say. She just turned away and shot at the tree again.

 

Ren laughed once, "That shouldn't be hard." He touched his lips to hers softly, anticipating the flow of memories. When it refused to come, he pressed harder, fitting Kaila into his body.

Kiel nodded and tapped his sword to Tori's, "May I have this dance?"

Genesis frowned, "Is something the matter, Giselle? You'd think a human girl like you would be more excited to learn about the existance of angels. Not that I'm anything speical...more like the opposite..."

 

kaila could feel ren's frustration oozing off of him. She pulled away, frowning.
"it didn't work did it? I'm sorry. Maybe it's for the best. If I could hurt you badly enough for kryios to take advantage like this, what's to stop him again. I'm only going to hurt you again and when that happens...he'll be right there to make the pain disappear like before. I'm sorry. I've failed everyone."
She turned away again, hoping this time ren doesn't stop her.

tori laughed and lifted the sword up.
"sure. Whatever you wanna call it."

giselle turned coldly to look at him.
"and what is that supposed to mean? A human like me? Why am I supposed to be so excited to to meet angels? My two best friends were angels. Are you aware of how that turned out in my life? It doesn't matter if you have wings and magic. Everyone's the same in the end."
She took a couple more angry shots at the tree and mumbled something.
everyone leaves me anyway. Who wants to be around the wack that leaves in the woods.

 

Ren snatched her back against him. "I don't know what you mean by failed everyone...but after something like that, I'll be dammed if I let you walk away now."

Kiel tapped his sword against hers and shuffled backwards.

Genesis glowered at her back and dropped his hands away from her. "I am your designated protector by our Holy Father. I've signed a contract with him and the Archangels that I cannot break. I will never leave your side if that is what you so desire." Stepping in front of her, he raised his sword again, "Strike my sword and I will fulfill whatever desire you hold."

 

kaila stood there absorbing the feeling of ren's body pressed against her back. She was soaked and her bangs hung loosely in her face, covering her eyes.
"you have to remember...you have too...you won't be the same if you don't remember everything. Your memories are what make you that person you are."
The tears started trickling out again and dripped down her face.

tori sidestepped and swiped the sword down across kiel's legs.

giselle kept the bow drawn, but aimed at the ground.
"there isn't anything I desire. I've come to learn not to expect much out of other people. That it's a waste of time."

 

Ren buried his face in the crook of her neck and shoulder, "What have I forgotten? What...is it? Tell me why I feel like this when you cry." The same pale face framed by black hair broke across his vision and the name filled in, bit by bit. "Yuukki... Yuukki my wife..." Half of his existance with Kaila flooded back, blinding him momentarily, "And Kaila....the woman who developed a crush on me just like all the rest of the girls in the school. I wanted to spare you the pain of loving me...to keep you at a distance... but...I thought I had..."

Kiel hopped over her blade, suppressing an old smile of joy.

Genesis cocked his head, "I don't have a girlfriend.... I lied so Kiel would get off my back. If there was something I, myself, desired....it would be to have someone that cared about me...the way Tori cares for Kiel or Tristan for Jean the Summer Girl." He held his sword out to her, almost in an aggressive movement, "Expect something out of me....if only to keep my mind off of how miserable I've become."

 

kaila turned around in ren's arms to face him. her eyes flickered back and forth, watching him remember.
"lost me? is that what you were going to say? i'm so sorry for hurting you. i just didn't want to watch you go through the same pain you endured with yuuki. being together is only going to cause you pain and suffering, but i can't stand being without you. i know what it's like to be alone. and what it's like to be loved. i'm selfish is what it is. this is my punishment for being selfish. to watch my actions hurt you. i'm sorry."
she buried her face in his chest.

tori noticed the look on kiel's face and couldn't help but laugh.
"you're enjoying this an awful lot, aren't you?"
she lunged the blade forward at his chest, stopping half an inch away from his body.

giselle took a step back, away from genesis's sword. she shot the arrow at it, but only because she felt forced to. there was a sad look in her eyes as she frowned at him. giselle was oddly relieved that he didn't have a girlfriend, but she felt almost angry at how desperate he was to have one.
"for someone who is still young, you talk as if you're ancient. there's still plenty of time in your life to meet a girl. it's not like you're going to die tomorrow. if you were going to die soon, however, it would be selfish of you to ask for someone to love you. why would you want to put them through all that pain. watch them grieve over you. it's wrong..."
she shot drew another arrow and shot it at his foot, barely missing.

 

Ren shook his head silently, "The only one who should be sorry...is me. I intentionally never told anyone about Yuukki...especially you. I wanted to bury her memory along with the evil of the Dark Court. He was still lost in the past. Kaila's lie had yet to resurface.

Kiel twitched, clanging the flat of his sword against hers and shoving it to the side. "What? I can't have fun? You have to admit, dangerous stuff like this is kinda fun."

Genesis didn't move. Her arrow bounced off his blade. His blue eyes lowered to the ground at her feet, "Yes...I am a pitiful, selfish creature...but...I do not know how much longer I have to be pitiful and selfish. It was before you came here that Lord Kyrios tore out one of my wings. It wouldn't be as bad if I didn't attract so many looks of pity and hatred. I am...nothing but his pawn." He glanced over at Kiel and Tori, they were happy fighting eachother and though Kiel's movements were restricted and held back, he moved with unburdened ease. Unfolding his single wing, Genesis dared one last glance at Giselle's face, he didn't want to see pity or anger...but he never expected her to show him compassion or any depth of feeling. With one, sorrow-filled glance, Genesis opened his wing, feeling the missing side respond with a painful twitch of the bone. "I'm sorry...to burden you with my thoughts. Perhaps it's better to not wish for another's affection."

 

kaila kept her arms wrapped tightly around ren's wet abdomin.
"i'm just glad you're remembering. I would never forgive myself. Not for this..."
She shook her head, rubbing her forehead across his chest.

tori laughed lightly, taking another swing.
"yeah. It is a lot of fun. Much better than being attacked by giant volture-people-creature things."

giselle sighed and lowered the bow again, walking up to genesis. She tried to dawn a smile, but it was more of a contorted grimace.
"self-loathing won't get you anywhere. I can understand wanting to be cared for, but you shouldn't force someone into sadness just so you can be happy. You should try your best to survive, to be with that person no matter what."
She reached for his hand, heart pounding, and tried to cheer him up.

 

Ren involuntarily purred at the motion and tilted her chin up. "Not for my memories...if not for yourself...why would you be so open to a man like me?" He brushed his lips across hers.

Kiel tapped his head with his sword after blocking another swing from Tori. "I don't remember any giant voltures... I remember...creepy hopping, frog-like mutants...and some other stuff...."

Genesis watched her in a daze before his reflexes caused him to flinch away from her and turn towards Kiel and Tori, "Kiel! How about a match! You get your wings handed to you and I'll get my pride back." Kiel grinned at him, "Oh, buddy, you are so far dead."

 

kaila had to resist the urge to kiss him. It was a strong desire that took all of her will-power.
"because I love you. You're strong and protective. Even though you've endured a lot of horror, you're still warm and friendly. To the faculty anyway. The students would surely argue the opposite. You seem to care about me in a way no one ever has. Even before...before you were ever open about your feelings...it was they way you responded to my actions and comments. It was hard not to fall in love with you. I just never thought it would be reciprocated."
She kissed him once, lightly, hoping what she had to say would soak up in him.

tori sighed and stabbed the tip of the sword into the ground. The image of talons flashed across her vision and she shuddered. Those claws would haunt her forever. The possibilty of being blind had been terrifying. She pulled the sword bacj out of the dirt and walked over to giselle, who looked both sad and confused.
"hey. Are you okay?"

giselle shook her head, trying to clear her thoughts.
"i dunno...yeah. I guess. I was just trying to make him feel better."
She felt tori's arm wrap around her shoulders. It was soft and warm, friendly. Giselle let out a deep sigh and leaned into tori's shoulder.

 

Ren smiled warmly, his golden eyes filled with adoration and he devoured her mouth. "I love you..." the words slipped from his lips as easily as the rain fell into his eyes. Stiffening, Ren touched his forehead to hers, "Well...that came out rather suddenly. I remember the feeling...but whether it's you...the image is missing. Kyrios holds that memory from me." That he was sure of. Kyrios had stolen a memory from his head.

Kiel reached a hand towards Genesis' shoulder and he flinched again, away from Kiel. Lifting his red sword, Genesis poked it against his stomach, "You should be less friendly and more assertive in battle." Kiel frowned, "I guess...but what's the matter with you?" Genesis didn't offer a response, only a swing at his head. Ducking, Kiel's eyes widened, "Genesis!" "Stop talking."

 

"why..."
Kaila squinted in frustration. She knew why. Kryios hated her. Obviously he didn't want ren to confirm that it was she he loved. It was his scapegoat.
to change it. To find someone he deems fit for ren and alter the memory. Eradicate me...
She grimaced and choked back another sob.
"do you remember when we first met? Uriel introduced us at that big party before school started. I turned to her and said 'why didn't you introduce me to someone so fascinating before?' I know you always just assumed it was yout kooks that caught my eye, but it wasn't. I mean yeah...you're not bad to look at all, but it was your magic. I saw you use your lightning, darkness, water, sphere thing and insisted on meeting you. That's why I called you fascinating. I envied that power you possessed. and then it took no time at all for that fascination to grow into something more."
She had never told anyone that story. They all believed it was his appearance, but she wasn't that shallow.

tristan heard kiel shouting and stopped fighting with allen to watch. He walked over to tori and giselle curiously.
"what's going on?"
He leaned on tori's shoulder, the sword resting on his hip.

toti shook her head. Genesis seemed off. She wondered if it was because of giselle.
"i dunno. It's like he just snapped."
She watched a horrified look spread across giselle's face.
"i think...you might be the only one that can stop him."
She pursed her lips at the thought of genesis hurting kiel.

 

Ren smiled and let out a small laugh. "I'm glad you saw something in me that wasn't just my looks. My magic...and my knowledge of history are what I pride myself on. Kaila...whatever I felt for you, I'm sure it'll return. I remember meeting you....and i remember thinking you were a strange woman for calling me fascinating."

Genesis swung again, clashing with Kiel's sword as he protected himself. "If you quit analyzing me for five seconds, you'd see our fight has already begun!" Kiel scowled, Genesis meant him real harm if he didn't defend himself. The boy was strong and he held a lot of strength even in one arm as he held his sword loosely in his hand while Kiel held his tightly in two hands. "Genesis, I don't know what the hell happened just now. Why won't you..." pushing him back, Kiel growled, "Just talk to me like a normal person!" That seemed to tick him off. Genesis leaned into a swing and cut through Kiel's shirt, "I don't need anyone to talk to! If you hadn't noticed...I'm not normal!" He lifted his boot from the ground and planted it firmly in the middle of Kiel's chest, knocking him to the ground.

 

she smiled, but it was strained. He wouldn't truly be hers again without that memory. Kyrios obviously knew that.
"there's something that I need to go do. I'm glad you're getting your real memories back."
Kaila bit her lip nervously and pulled away from him. She had to get all of his memories back, even the bad ones.

tori broke out into a sprint. She shoved genesis and knelt down beside kiel. she was furious and her eyes dug angrily into genesis.
"that's enough! What's your problem? I was trying to give you the benefit of the doubt, but I guess first impressions really are lasting. All you've done since kryios took your wing is mope and take your anger out on everyone else. Maybe your seraph is the one you should be madat. Kiel was only trying to be a friend!"
She glanced down at kiel, trying to show compassion, but she was still outraged.
"i wouldn't waste anymore of your time on him if I were you."
Tori helped pull him to his feet, still glaring at genesis.

giselle dropped the bow and froze up. She felt tristan poke her arm, but she was unresponsive. Tori originally made it sound like it was her fault. She didn't understand how she could be the cause of this. He was angry and it didn't make sense.
unless he's angry at me. I didn't realize I said something wrong.
Giselle opened her mouth and at first nothing came out. Then, in a very hollow horse voice, his name came out in a whisper.
"genesis..."
She reached out, but dropped her arm almost immediately. The rest of the words were stuck in her throat.

 

Ren seemed confused. "Where are you going? Oh...it is raining...I suppose I should get us out of the rain, huh. Catching a cold wouldn't help anyone at the moment." Cheerfully, and oblivious, Ren tugged on her hand and headed back to the school.

Kiel stood, brushing dirt off his pants. Abandoning his sword, he gave Tori a nod, "I'm alright." Setting her to the side, so she wouldn't get hurt, Kiel reached down and grabbed Genesis' shirt in his hand, haulling him up to his feet. "You can beat on me til your heart's content....but I'm not going to take it lying down. Either you fight me in a way where no one can die or you suck it up like a man and fight fair."

Genesis glared at him for a long moment before headbutting him. "If I beat on you til my hearts content...you'd be dead." he snarled and rubbed his forehead. Kiel's head wasnt' exactly soft as a pillow. Before he could remove his hand, Kiel tackled him to the ground, rolling in the dirt until they hit a muddy patch with Kiel face first in the mud. "Your girlfriend thinks my anger should be directed at the one who stole my wing. What do you think? You think I should pick a fight with the man with enough power to erase me?! You think I should stick my neck on the chopping board because I'm a little frustrated!? That I should lay down and die at his feet?! Do you?!!" Kiel elbowed him in tht gut and shoved him off him, spitting out mud, "No...but I don't think you should take it out on me just cause I'm here. I get being frustrated. You don't think I am? I don't have wings. You, at least, have one. I look at Tori's wings and I appreciate them probably more than she does. They're beautiful and I wish I had a pair of my own. But if you want to fight over that? Fine, have at me. I'll take it all, as long as you're not beating on someone who doesn't understand what's bothering you." Genesis seethed, grinding his teeth, "I hate you...." Accepting his hatred hurt almost as much as accepting Gabranth's words. "I know...."

 

kaila walked with ren, but every step was another painful stab in the chest. Kryios was a sick and twisted man. She wouldn't let him win.
"yeah. Wouldn't want to get sick..."
She sighed and watched her feet as she walked.

"st-stop...stop fighting."
Giselle choked out the words and the feeling in her legs disappeared as she ran over to them. She wrapped her arms around genesis's back and pulled him away from kiel.
"stop fighting. It's...it's not helping anyone. It only hurts people. Please stop..."
She buried her face in his wingless shoulder and felt a gentle hand on top of her head. She didn't look up to see who it was. All giselle cared about was ending the fued. She couldn't watch it, not again.

schuyler had heard all the commotion and walked over to the others, leaving penny behind. She felt bad for giselle and set a hand on her head. She was going to give her a reassuring smile, but it wouldn't help.

 

Enan greeted them at the door with a wary smile and concern for Kaila. "Everything alright?"

Genesis froze, his muscles tensing and his blue eyes went wide, staring sightlessly at Kiel. "What.....what are you....doing?"

Kiel hauled himself to his feet and wiped blood from his split lip. "At least you know how to throw a punch....cause with girls, you rather suck." He watched Genesis flinch and shrugged at the brown haired boy dressed in red. "Serves you right too. Name one girl that likes people fighting."

 

before answering enan, she turned to ren. Kaila put on a fake smile.
"i'll see you later okay?"
She turned back to enan and the smile instantly faded. Kaila started walking, leaving ren behind. She didn't want to discuss anything until he was out of earshot.
"kryios took his memories. I managed to help him remember a lot of them...not all..."
She glanced up at enan and pulled her wet bangs out of her face.
"i need to speak with kryios. And...after dinner i'll go do what you asked of me. I just need to know where the warehouse is located."

tori grinned at kiel and gave him a kiss on the cheek.
"i thought you looked pretty great out there. Well I mean...until you got your ass kicked. But it makes you look rugged."
She bit her lip and raised an eyebrow seductively. She figured it probably would have worked if she hadn't started laughing.
"can we leave them?"

giselle shook her head in his back.
"what I want...what I want is you to talk to me rather than take out your agression on other people. It's my birthday wish."
She kept her face buried in his back and felt schuyler's hand leave her head.

schuyler froze.
birthday...
She remembered the day they spent with giselle last. The happy day was her birthday. Her throat closed and her chest constricted.
"you're birthday..."
