    e-and-manga-bill-156-passed.aspx

For those who are not aware
In short, the Bill basically means that shows or manga that do not follow a specific rating guidline will be labeled as 18+.
If it's labeled as 18+ then it will only be sold in 18+ stores which of course will greatly effect the sales and broadcasting of lots of anime.
For example, something like To-Love Ru will still be sold, but it will be labeled as 18+ instead of 15+.
The bill applies to any anime that shows violence that do not follow the guidelines ( murder can only be implied, weapons that would leave messy injuries can either not be used or used in a manner that the injuries would not show up, there's more but I'm forgetting) would be affected
Anime that shows explicit sexual content (EVERY ANIME EVER) will be affected

It's pretty much the Comic's Code but worse.

Reminder that this bill only applies to Tokyo
That being said, Tokyo IS the largest market in Japan.

First, you need to copy the link again. I was able to copy-paste the second half, but just so everyone else don't have to do it.

This is probably going to suck for the manga industry. It doesn't mean the end of anime or manga, it just means the end to creativity. Not all anime is violent, look at Death Note. Under the guidelines, all the deaths in the story are implied (he wrote the name and it's kind of a coincidence he died in the exact same way) and there are almost no real weapons or blood. And with the sexual stuff, it does seem like there does need to be some kind of age restriction on it.

Does this mean the end to all manga and anime; well no, it'll just be in a different corner where little boys and girls aren't allowed to get them (unless they're like American parents who buy their kids GTA instead of being a good parent and raising thier kid). It's going to hurt the sales at first, but there are always enough rebels to keep the industry going. It could also pursurade many wirters to come up with more interesting storylines to follow these guidelines if they really wanted to.

Is this an "anti-oktaku" law; does the government hate Haruhi Suzumiya. Well, no; they just beleive that the are helping the community but are doing it in the wrong fashion.

I can't imagine what would happen if Pokemon was rated 18+

    It better not be! :3

Wait a second, this in in Japan?!

Oh well. We're just going to get more moe stuff like K-On from now on. The doujin industry has nothing to fear, and most decent VNs are already 18+. It'll suck for long running manga, certainly, but it's not as though we haven't had a good run. There's enough decent stuff out ATM to last me for a long time.

You seem to forget the first episode of the anime which clearly shows people falling off towers
Also Light being shot, L dieing of a heart attack as well as Mikami stabbing himself with a pen

Didn't mention in the first post but questionable religious overtones aren't allowed either, something that Death Note already has.

    This just in
You're a bad parent for buying your kid GTA

    In America? Maybe
But you seem to forget that the only people who really WATCH anime in Japan are Otaku, children and ofcourse, the casual viewer.
Children cannot do anything, they have no say in this whatsoever
The casual viewer MAY protest to this, but they make up a small portion of anime sales.
The Otaku is the real target audience for most anime and fact of the matter is that being an Otaku is still socially unacceptable in Japan. To a lesser extent then here in America, but you're still considered "strange" for watching anime.
As a result, no Otaku WANTS to go out on the street and protest because well, the Otaku doesn't leave his house anyway.

    POSSIBLY (note the POSSIBLY part)

    Anime produces Anime fans
Anime fans CAN turn into Otaku
Otaku tend to not be socially accepted outside of other Otaku
    Most Otaku are Males
    Males can't breed with Males
    No children
    No workforce
With the high amount of NEET's in Japan, kids need to be entering the workforce ASAP.

The problem is, because the Bill is so loose and open ended, it's possible someone will label Pokemon for "animal cruelty"
I expect the Bill to be revised though.

DON'T YOU EVEN JOKE ABOUT THAT KINDA SHIT YOU MOTHERFUCKER!

The gun is offended. It shoots you. You die. That'll teach you to ignore an emotionally disturbed gun.

Hi Matsuda and epic gun used to shoot Light Yagami in the wrist. Which totally was not violent.

The gun is flattered. You live. Good thing too. Being dead can ruin your whole week.

On the upside(?) all the semi-ecchi stuff that's never actually gone full-blown hentai will now be free to do what it likes.
