I don't get it. How does the 3D setting on a 3DS hurt people's eyes. I mean, I tried it while playing OoT at a gamestop, and it didn't hurt. It was annoying trying to look at it right, but that's it. It was cool getting 3D like that, but it didn't really hurt. Anyone wanna go all sciency on me and explain?

Only playing it at a gamestop is why you probably felt nothing. Playing for a prolonged time probably affects you someway.
I don't know for certain since I do not own one.

well, my friend it started to hurt his eyes right away, but I thought even playing with the 3D on it seemed pretty normal. I mean, it added depth, but that's it. Nothing hard on the eyes. I mean, if there's anything that might hurt my eyes, it will happen right away. It didn't for this

Simply because not all eyes are the same. It may not make your eyes hurt but you're not everybody.

okay first i shall explain to you how the 3DS 3D works, now we already know how normal glasses 3D works right?

its basically like this: in a video every frame is actually 2 frames, the blue frame is placed half a centimeter to the
right-down from the red one, and the red one is placed half a centimeter to the left-up you wear glasses that are RED on one lens and BLUE on the other and that puts the 2 frames together playing a "trick" on youre mind making it look like its actually
    3-dimensional

now you may ask how does the 3DS 3D work?

know as glassless 3D or glass-free 3D, its basically the same thing as the 3d with glasse, but with no glasses (no duh) its basically like this the video/gameplay displayed is the way i said before "the blue frame is placed half a centimeter to the
right-down from the red one, and the red one is placed half a centimeter to the left-up
" only that instead of using glasses, there are 2 screens one red, one blue,(witch become transparent color when you turn the 3D off) and the 3D effect is displayed right on the screen (also "tricking" our minds)

now how does it irritate peoples eyes?

the human eye is not accustomed to an "illusion-like" 3D, so it just feels weird for some people if the play it for over 40 minutes(witch in fact is why the put the option to turn the 3D off),

however some people have more tolerance than others with the 3D effect, as the post above said not all eyes are the same.

i think thats the most serious post ill ever have in the spam zone.

More importantly we don' t all have the same brain, which processes the visual signals to "compute" the 3D and manages all our ocular behavior patterns. Some brains are more lazy than others when it comes to computing 3D, some get tired of it quickly while others can do it for hours, some have a certain comfort focal distance while others have a different one.

Also, watching 3D coming from a flat screen forces our eyes to behave in ways they never do in real life, which is why it can be damaging quickly for young children, causing permanent strabismus for example, there has been scientific studies about this. However there haven' t been such studies on adults yet, so we don' t know if the frequent and prolonged use of 3D devices can be damaging for them too. I guess the large number of 3DS users will do as test-subjects on the matter.

I would have to say it is just the fact that my eyes are annoyed by focusing on two slightly different images, and when it tries to put the two together, my brain tries to equalize the two pictures, but it cannot.

You're supposed to look at it from a certain distance away from it. First time I played the demo in a Gamestop, I looked too far and my head started to hurt a little. Maybe that's a reason why?

Also, now they're saying only children under 6 years of age could have side effects from the 3DS. I don't believe that. If they can have side effects, anyone else can have them too.
