    9x - 7i > 9x - 21u
    -7i > -21u
    -i > -3u
    i < 3u
Not sure how to proceed from here.

I have become really bad at math. What happened to me?

2 years since I've had to do maths of any kind, I have come to realise that I don't remember jack.

Don't worry, algebra is still simple.

Math was the only class I paid attention in, but I don't remember any of this.

This thread has rekindled my inner math spark. Consequently, I happened to indulge myself in solving an algebraic division problem, and I'd like to request some help:

Here's what I have so far:

    • b>a

    • n/a>n/b

    • a/a + n/a>b/b + n/b

    • (a+n)/a>(b+n)/b

    • (a+n)/(b+n)>a/b
Similarly, if you have a>b, then (a+n)/(b+n)<a/b.

From what I see, given any n>>>>>>>>>a,b, these two become negligible, more so if n is given even higher values to.

    Thoughts?

All of the time. Algebra is applied in a ton of basic logic, you just don't think about it.

If you don't work in manual labor, this stuff if good to know. Especially geometry and trigonometry.

    It's called problem solving
    You do it most everyday.
Almost ever decision you make can be broken down into numbers and variables.

Calculus is used in pharmacy when determining drug detoxification in the body (my dad has to use it at work sometimes).

I have used Trig and geometry in the last year to measure the areas of rooms and the garden for how much carpet and turf we needed.

it's not really useless, people just don't often think of the applications as they're not immediately obvious.
