The Orphanage

Christina stared at the man, her eyes still narrowed though she was visibly caught off guard. She suddenly grinned, tilting her head slightly to the right as she did.

"Well, pardon me, Sir Director." She turned from the man, her hands behind held behind her back as she did so. "However...My father was not in your position. If you know what I mean...How would our units...our entire force...How would they feel if they knew even you couldn't do it? Just look at Sam..." She turned and leaned over the desk, her beautiful eyes dazzling. "There are more like him. Unsure...hesitant...afraid..." She whispered to him, arching her back a bit and brushing her hair back with a sadistic laugh. "I wonder...Shall we find out?"

 

After yelling for help, Wulfric connected his mind with the three guards. The youngest felt relief at having a chance to leave his post. Wulfric heard him walking through the Hall, but felt disappointment in the second guard's mind. The older, third man had told him something, probably that he didn't need to go. Working on his mind, Wulfric tempered the second guard's dislike of his superior, close to the point of anger. The intimidation the guard felt was then reduced. He now felt little need to obey. A few echoing, harsh words later and the guard left, catching up with the youngest.

They rounded the corner and came to Wulfric. "In th-there! The guard's are b-being.. Please, just help them!" It didn't matter how pathetic his words were. Forcing trust, compassion and bravery into the guard's minds, Wulfric stood back. He'd rarely used so much mental energy, but the next part would be easy. The light in the unused interrogation room flickered a little from age, this was used against the guard's mind to increase their belief in what was happening. The youngest walked in. The second guard was mentally prodded to fear for his friend's safety, and followed. Wulfric jumped forward and slammed the door on them.

Feeling a headache, and shocked at what he'd done, he tried to think how he'd deal with the third guard, and ignored the muffled shouts of two the guards he'd tricked.

 

"Last I checked we employed senseless brutes and exmilitary to be our guard force. I don't remember having that many cowards in our ranks."

The director stood up and turned his back to the girl.

"I need you to go down to the interrogation chambers and...work you magick on the fire elemental. After that, take Larz down to the winged gift surgeons. Do you know what has to be done there?"

 

"Fai..." Legend spoke, "I'm really glad you're here. But we don't have much time. You said that was a monitoring room, right?"

"Mm-hmm. I know what you're thinking," he replied with a smirk.
"Hmm..." the boy bent down and felt the floor with his hand. "The floor's concrete. I wouldn't be able to make a current through this."
"But the ceiling," he said, looking up, "that's a completely different story. Let's see what I can do."


"Wait a minute..." Legend told him, grabbing his hand and humming a quick, soft tune. Time around the twins stopped.
"There you go," she said, smiling.


Before anyone else could blink, the electricity was out in the interrogation room, and the monitoring room was in flames. Famous and Legend shared a silent high-five.

"Wouldn't that make you look even more pathetic?" The woman questioned before walking towards the door and smiling patiently. "No, what would need to be done there?" She asked, brushing some hair back.

Kaylee pulled her pencil away, acknowledging Famous' words and then turning to Scott.

"Wh...what are those?" She asked curiously.

 

"If any of them question me I will persuade them with a bullet to not do so the next time."

Turning around, Victor gave the girl a cold, hard stare. What he was about to say was of upmost importance.

"amputate him, every limb."

 

Aly went over to the girl, Kaylee, thinking. "Those are keys, girl." she said absently. "Most often used for unlocking things and can be useful in banging people on the head."

 

Aly looked up, her eyes narrowed. "You could be wrong, and probably are. On the off chance you aren't, let's think for a moment, shall we? We have hundreds of mutants, a lot of guards, and a madman running around. None except the guards are trained. Let's all take a few minutes and think who will win." she sighed. "We need a distraction. And don't go down the heroes road."

 

The twins looked up at Aly and Scott.

"You might not need a distraction..." Legend said. "I can freeze time... That would help, right?"

 

Aly grinned. "Big help. How long can you do it for?" she asked, her mind whirling with the possibilities. "If we do this all at the right moment, we could actually make it out without any casualties."

 

Kaylee set her sketchbook and pencil down, her chance to help being virtually ripped from her hands. She sighs softly and sat down against the cold, hard wall, holding her knees and closing her eyes to wait for them to decide what they would do.

Christina laughed before turning her back to the man with a slight nod. "I'll see what I can do." She mumbled before leaving the room and walking down the halls towards the interrogation hall.

 

"Well... Depends on how long the song is... Maybe, about twenty minutes, so that the effects wear off immediately after and we're not going at super-speed or something. You have about two minutes to decide.... Uhm, someone's coming." Legend explained.

"Can I help any? I'm pretty fast," Famous inquiried.

 

Aly looked back, then nodded. "Get the longest song you can. Anything. Kaylee, right? Can you draw some kind of protection or barrier for us? Don't overdo it. You, key guy. Keep your mouth shut, and wait to use those keys. Okay?"

The first one should be easy.

"Okay, I'll stay behind," Famous told them, "A lot of the other Orphans are still asleep... Maybe I can help them,"
He smiled gently.

Smiling softly, Legend started humming a tune. Then she stepped closer to the other Gifts she was speaking to, using her arms to make sure she was in contact all of them, including Kaylee.
"I remember black skies, and lightning all around me," she started. Time began to slow quickly.
"I remembered each flash, as time began to blur....
"Like a stiling sign, that fate had finally found me...."
At about that moment, time seemed to stop completely, but Legend was still singing.

BIC: Aly hoisted Aly over one shoulder, concentrating hard to keep her focus. If she didn't, then she wouldn't make it out. "Kaylee, now! Keyman, go!"

 

Kaylee nodded, her heart quickening in pace as she quickly began to draw the group. She wasn't sure how this would work but she began to sketch out a large orb over them, a protective barrier in her mind. She worked quickly, but accurately.

 

Minutes later, Legend still continued the song.
"...In every loss, and every lie; in every truth that you denied...
in each regret, and each goodbye, was a mistake too great to hide..."


Famous stood by the door, waiting for the guards or whoever that Legend had predicted. He was sure to hurt them before they could hurt anyone else... hopefully.
