    De caelo cadit, mediis tenebris
    Omnes tenebrae lumen, ut moriatur
Cor tuum et exitum tuum, cupimus,
    Per manus nigro mortui resurgent*

It all started at Zero. Whatever his name was originally, he discarded it for the title he earned: "Patient Zero," the first Zombie. It must have been around two hundred years ago that the zombie infection spread from within him. Completely aware of his nature, Zero was able to control the zombie virus and lead its victims. Within a matter of months, he had covered over half of the world with his undead army. Governments started to fall within the year. To fight back, humanity created combat machines, hoping that the inorganic nature of the machines would prevent infection.

Unfortunately, the machines were corrupted once the real source of the so-called "zombie virus" came to light. Demonic entities, from another plane of existence, had broken through to our dimension by using Zero as a conduit. Unable to exist in our dimension, they instead let their demonic energies loose on the world. The evil energy rots most organic material and infuses the corpse with a Demon's psyche, creating what we call Zombies. In a similar manner, the energy interfered with the combat machines' (called Mechs) programming, causing them to become extremely hostile towards the very humans that had created them.

To make matters worse, when the main strain of the virus infected an animal, it mutated into two other strains. Instead of simply turning into a Zombie, humans now faced the risk of also turning into a Vampire or Werewolf. Before long, the breach of demonic energy allowed the ghosts of the fallen to manifest on Earth...however, the ghosts were corrupted by the demonic energy that was now abound in our atmosphere turning them to malicious Spirits. Against the combined threat of Zombies, Vampires, Werewolves, Spirits, and Mechs, the war for humanity was short. Within a decade of the initial outbreak (called the Zero Years), all governments were crumbled and civilization was, for lack of a better word, gone.

The year is now 246AZ, 246 years after the seemingly-immortal Zero successfully claimed the entire world for his Zombies and the Demons controlling him. The human population is at 9 percent of what it was before the war. What is left of humanity has been consolidated into several small cities, each surrounded by large walls to protect them from the "Scares." Technology is all but lost, only scraps of it remain. Citizens of the world live their daily lives in fear of being infected and turning their loved ones, being killed without infected by the Scares, or being captured by one of Zero's personal "Hunters."

No one knows what happens to those who are captured by Zero's Hunters, but it is assumed that they are, at the very least, turned into one of the Infected.

Throughout the last few decades, however, there seems to be hope. Rumors of people dubbed "Slayers" have surfaced. These so-called Slayers are said to be immune to both infections and possession. Supposedly, they are able to take out whole groups of Zombies, Vampires, Werewolves, Spirits, and even Mechs single-handedly. Who these Slayers are remains a mystery to most as no Slayer has ever been identified, nor their true nature determined.

As Sky walked down the dark hallway, he gripped his bow tight in his left hand and kept his right hand in a fist. He could see the light at the end, though it was a bit dim. As he walked through the doorway, his eyes narrowed at the light; he was now outside, standing on top of the wall that guarded the city of Neostice. It was sunset, but there was still a little bit of sun out, casting a pinkish hue over what scenery wasn't already covered in shadow. Sky walked towards a duo of men perched on the edge. The sound his boots made against the stone of the wall relaxed him, as did the sounds of the owls waking up. As he neared the two men, they noticed him, giving him a nod of acknowledgement. Each men had a long gun in their hands -sniper rifles- and Sky noticed that one looked like it was releasing a faint amount of smoke at the barrel. Sky nodded back as he joined and peeked over the edge. There, about 75 feet down, was a small group of Zombies, futilely clawing at the fence that covered the bottom half of the wall. Despite the approaching dark, Sky could easily make out one of the Zombies behind the others, lying lifeless on the ground. "Jake, Adam. I'm guessing that's your doing down there, Jake?" He asked the man with the smoking rifle, gesturing his head towards the ground.

    Thrawp!
The axe came down hard, decapitating the Zombie. The figure gripped the metallic handle of the axe as more blood spattered on his face. Not moving, his eyes shifted to the rolling head before it stopped, locked eyes with him, and opened its mouth. The Zombie-less head gurgled as blood continued to pour out. After a guttural growl, the Zombie's head ceased all movement and the unlife disappeared from its eyes, leaving Lucas Bennett in a staring contest with two empty, white spaces.
Swinging the axe backwards, the hunter of the undead noted how the Zombie retained some movement after decapitation, where usually it would have died...well, died again instantly after being decapitated. .

"UGH!! Stupid, stupid Bennett," he groaned, letting the axe's handle retract to a smaller size and looking at the bite mark on his shoulder. He had baited the Zombies purposefully, but let his guard down long enough for one to clamp its jaw tight on his shoulder. Bennett could easily make out the teeth marks, despite the blood. The bite was deep and he could feel the virus unsuccessfully trying to infect his body. As he walked towards the nearby river, his eyes glanced over the green amulet hanging on a nearby branch. Before he reached the river's edge, Bennett realized that the bite mark was not only already healing, as it should be, but smoking, albeit slightly.

    "Well...that's new."

Al exhaled slowly, and sat up. He looked around to make sure the zombie he'd been hiding from was really gone, then pulled himself out from the tree roots he'd been hiding in. He took a second to look up the trunk. How many times had these trees saved his life? He started walking back towards Neostice; He'd been in that hiding place for awhile and now the sun was going down. As a result he probably wasn't going to make it back before dark. Not good. Part of his personal philosophy was to always be inside the city when the sun went down, but he'd gotten careless and broken his own rule. He looked around nervously as he walked, he didn't know how the Scares reacted to darkness, but he didn't like that it was going to be harder for him tell if they were nearby. After a little while he made it to one of the taller trees in the forest and started climbing up. Safer to travel by air he figured, and since he was losing his ability to see as time went on he needed to take every precaution he could. Once he reached the top of the tree he stood up and prepared to jump. He could glide to the edge of the forest from here, but from there he'd still be at least an hour's walk away from the walls. He sighed and jumped out of the tree, no way he was getting back before dark...

"Easy way out of this madness? Take a gun to the head and pull the trigger. One less for us to kill as well~"
A old wooden sign stood tilted in the dirt ground. Covered in many blood splatters and handprints, it's hard to see the faint words of "Welcome to Neostice" under all the mess. A faint groan and a zombie stumbled around the sign, following the scent of flesh in the air. Flesh that is fresh and still very alive. It grunted and turned it's heard towards the road leading into the city.

    ~BANG~

The zombie's head exploded like a watermelon, spewing chunks all over the floor before the headless body crumpled to the asphalt floor. The shooter, slowly made her way over the body, firing another revolver round into it's heart area before flipping her gun open and loading the two bullets she fired. "You think the guards would do something about this wandering very close. Well one isn't to bad I guess..." She raised her visors and stared at the city in the distance. "Neostice. Still standing that's a good thing. Hopefully they have what I need. If not...at least it as a place to stay..." She trudged along the road to the city, every now and then shooting glances if there were any other stragglers. One almost took her head off. Good thing her katana was in arms reach.

"Hmph. He's lucky I didn't gut him for ripping me off like that." Rigel muttered lowly as he dragged the bloodied flat of his blade against the coat of a sturdy-looking man standing just outside the door. The man growled at him but Rigel smirked and pointed towards the shotgun strapped to his side. "When I get angry things get messy." Luckily, the bodyguard backed off because the gun was empty.

Sighing as he left, Rigel lamented over his lost profit. What kind of buyer from the black market would need an entire werewolf body? Weren't the faux scientists only interested in things like brains and hearts? Besides, it wasn't as if he could drag the entire corpse four miles with the rest of its pack still hunting him down. Choices had to be made and he choose to cut the beast's head off, harvest its heart, and call it a day. Unfortunately his "contract" had some fine print about bringing in "damaged goods". Rigel was too tired to fight it. He just wanted some rest after having spent the entire day out hunting.

"Hm..." With one glance at the wall Rigel walked forth, glad to be in the city for however short a time it would be before he headed out again.

Sky sat there for a few minutes, talking with Jake and Adam about the last few days. Nothing extraordinary, the wall of Neostice still stood sturdy and fenced. It has been a few months since anybody from Neostice became infected. Though the virus was airborne, it wasn't potent enough to turn anybody into a Zombie without an actual bite and Zombie blood in their system. However, Sky knew it was still possible for someone to be reanimated as a Zombie after death; it just took a lot longer. Sky hated the false sense of security. He knew even with the wall that Hunters could still show up inside Neostice (he's heard it happened before, but he's never seen a Hunter). However, the standing wall was still reassuring. The young man never felt more at ease than at the top. "So...any plans for tonight? Anyone got a hot date?" He asked the other two, striking up another conversation. He received a laugh from each and then the three men started to insult each other's masculinity and sexual prowess before debating what was worse: being torn apart by a pack of Werewolves or sex with Adam (Jake insisted that it was the latter). As the sun started to set, Sky realized that it was almost time for his shift; he had shown up early for the company since he was the only night Watchmen for this section of the wall. "Hey, I'll be back. I'm going to grab an extra magazine, just in case, and a few snacks," he told the others, waving as he started to walk away. He heard them groan, expecting him to be late. "Oh shut up. It's not like the rest of tonight is going to be any more eventful."

Bennett panted as he stared into the glowing amulet hanging from a branch. He was clean from most of the blood, but quite a bit still remained. Though his wounds were almost fully healed already, the scars were visible and the gash on his shoulder was still there. He groaned at his outfit; it was torn to shreds. Without a word, the blue-eyed man looked at the pinkish/purplish sky. It was going to be a cloudless night, he realized. Accepting that it was time to rest and knowing that there was a town nearby, Bennett strapped on his weapons, grabbed the rest of his equipment, and quickly walked towards the edge of the forest, groaning every few steps. Behind him, the light of the amulet flickered as it remained on the tree.

As Al glided over the forest he noticed a human figure walking in the direction of the forest's edge. Cautious as always, Al landed in the top of a nearby tree and looked down at the figure. It didn't move like a zombie and it was too solid to be a spirit; that meant it was either a vampire, a possessed, or an ordinary human. Al used his grappling hooks to lower himself closer to the figure. At this distance he could see that it was definitely male, and he appeared to have hair, so he probably wasn't a vampire. Al also noticed that his clothing was in tatters and he was covered in a dark liquid, most likely blood. "Poor guy's a gonner, if he's not one of the Scares already," he thought. Still he wasn't moving like he was injured. Al decided to watch him for a while and see what else he could find out.

Empty again. Ken was currently looking through a variety of discarded and potentially useful goods. More specifically, he was digging through some trash cans that he'd found in an alley inside Neostice. He was running low on some things and was curious if there was anything he was looking for. What he did found instead was nothing for him to use in the slightest. It was times like these that made him glad he wasn't looking for food.

First of all, he wasn't desperate enough to look through the garbage to find some food. Secondly the lack of finding anything would most likely make his hunger worse. Still this was the third trash can that he'd check and only found nothing, which had lead him to kick the last trash can in some frustration. Still before he could leave, there was something else that he needed to do first.

His hand reached for the mask hanging from his neck and placed it over his mouth. Next he took out the spray can and quickly shook it. Then he drew his signature sign, a circle with a slash going through it. Normally he'd just draw a circle, but since this place had next to nothing of use, he he added the slash to his signature as both a reminder and a note to whoever else decided to come by this way. While Ken had no idea if anyone actually paid much attention to this, it wasn't of much concern to him whether they did or not.

The life of a scavenger was a difficult one at times, but dealing with difficulties was something that he was used to. However if things did get a bit to close for comfort, then he had ways of defending himself. A Revoler and SMG for the real hairy situations and for the more up close and personal situations, a steel pipe, great for cracking skulls and scaring punks off. Pocketing the spray can, Ken started walking to another location. With it becoming dark soon he wasn't planning on leaving the city like he did every now and then, but that didn't mean he couldn't look beyond the fence. From a nearby building of course.

After a bit of walking, she eventually reached the gates of the city. "Lovely little place. Almost good enough to call home." She meant it sarcastically. The walls were stained red from attacks. It looked recent as some prints looked brighter than others. Barbed wire covered every inch of the place And of course there was gonna be some sort of checkpoint to get inside. She sighed, taking off her belongings and giving them to a guard before being examined by a medical person making sure she wasn't infected. After a few more tests, she was let on through with her stuff. "Just basic human speech and the lack of need to consume flesh is good enough for entry I suppose..."

Inside, Sasha frowned. "And I thought the outside looked bad." She looked around the city full of trash, tagged walls everywhere, and that faint stench of death. Just a lot bigger than the other towns she was in. At least the walls would keep most of the treat out. Shouldering her stuff, she made her way to the center of town, looking around and eventually spotting an inn. "Ah lovely. My feet could use a rest from all this damned walking." She entered the inn and dropped a few pieces of coins. "A nice room for a few nights should suffice. I'll worry about food myself." It was gonna take some time to get her room ready so she made her way to the bar area and ordered a drink, popping off the cap before taking a swig. "Sucks that the drinks aren't as good as the ones in towns and villages, but you get what you get~"

Rigel left his home slamming the door shut behind him. His earlier fallout with his latest business partner had left him in too bad of a mood to sleep. If he couldn't sleep there was only one thing left he could do. He was not the type to drink until he could no longer remember his name. Only more work could put him in a better mood. More work, more money. That was always good.

He approached the wall and gestured for a guard to open the door for him. It was the only way in and out of the city. The wall that surrounded it had a tunnel built to go through to the other side. Electronic doors were manned from the inside through some kind of inner control rooms. Once Rigel made it through to the other side he had to wait once more for there was still the electric fence he needed to pass through. After the guards on the wall gave the signal that everything was clear the fence's door was opened.

None of the guards once warned Rigel about the dangers of going out so late. He was on familiar terms with them and they knew exactly what kind of person he was. He knew exactly what he was getting himself into. The fence was closed behind him and the section that had been powered down was back to full capacity. Touching it now would easily fry him.

Rigel took a few steps forward and checked the scope of his rifle, clearing it of a spec of dust. It was then that he heard an all-too familiar groan.

Zombies. No fewer than a dozen were heading his way.
"Where'd you all come from?" He sighed. Getting around them wouldn't be too hard. Especially if he picked off a few from--A hand tore through the ground before him with a muffled groan, same as the others, coming from below. Then another pushed its way through the rubble and dirt. And another. Soon there were another dozen sprouting out from the earth surrounding Rigel.

Sky was almost halfway down the bottom level of Neostice's guard-wall. The city wasn't entirely low-tech. Hell, the wall had automated systems running through it. It was true that he could take the lift down -it'd be faster and less work- but Sky preferred the stairs. The stairs were meant as an alternate route in case if the Scares compromised the wall. For one, Zombies couldn't really move through stairs that quickly and although the other Scares could, the stairways were wide enough that there was plenty of room for a battle. Being stuck in elevator with Scares chasing you, on the other hand...Sky shivered at the thought of being in an elevator with a Zombie above you. However, most Watchmen took the lift for the convenience and the stairways were quiet, allowing Sky to think.

    Brnnngggg! Brng! Brnggggg!

Well, so much for quiet. Sky turned with a jolt and ran back up the stairs, pulling his bow from his shoulder. The alarm was quiet, but annoying. More like a series of urgent bells lining the inside and balconies of the wall. It wasn't meant to alert the rest of Neostice's population; it was meant for the Watchmen to hear. It meant that some action outside of the gates required some...help from above. Usually something minor, like a stray Werewolf or a short in the gate's electrical system allowing a Zombie or two in. Now the alarm for an actual outbreak within the city? That was bone-chilling.

Stopping near a door, two flights from the top where Watchmen were supposed to be stationed, Sky pushed a few numbers into a keypad before the door swung open. The sun was almost all the way down, but there were plenty of stars to give light...and spotlights, propped across the wall, shining down into the surrounding environment. Sky stepped out into a balcony; it was short, maybe only a few yards away from the wall and had a small wall at the edge that reached his knees. There was enough room out there for maybe two people. Up above him, he could hear yells. He looked up to see other Watchmen on this section of the wall -maybe four in total- looking over the edge. On his level of the wall, there were two other small balconies like his, but only one currently manned. These small balconies were meant to give Watchmen a closer look to the ground, but they were unable to be built too low in case of a Scare reaching them. Fortunately, the few extra yards really helped the sharper-eyed Watchmen, such as himself.

Sky wasted no time and peered over the edge, glancing around. He quickly noticed what caused the alarm. A group of Zombies were walking towards one of the main gates and right in their line of sights...was a man. "Great, some jackass got himself spotted," Sky grumbled, placing a foot on the wall for support. "Who's working that gate?" Sky asked into his radio. "No one saw that horde coming?" He didn't expect a reply so he dropped his radio and pulled an arrow out from his quiver. He positioned the bow so he could easily stare into the scope just as the gunshots from above started to rain down onto the Zombies, set the arrow in place, and pulled it bac- "Oh no...We have a problem!" He yelled, though his radio was on the floor. "GUYS, WE HAVE A PROBLEM!!" He yelled even louder, before he let his arrow fly down, striking a Zombie in the neck between his head and shoulder with enough force to cut through its spine. Sky quickly picked his radio back up. "Hands are coming out of the ground! We have Zombies underground, repeat, Zombies rising from the ground!"

Heavy scratching, almost pleading to be silenced emitted from the machine and the needle grinded, hitting resistance. The sound echoed off the building's quiet walls and filled the house with a dreadful noise. With a tap, more like a kick really, the needle fell into place in the groove of the LP and a jazzy tune swelled throughout the room. The sound of a soothing bassline and light, splashy drums mellowed out the previously gloomy area and as the female singer began to vocalize, in a homely alto, Baron was brought to an even mood. He sighed and took a brief but meaningful inhale from the cigarette hanging between his lips and blew out a wispy cloud of smoke as he pressed the lit butt into the ashtray. Baron's room was neat but mostly for the lack of actual things in it. A modest bed, a bookshelf with a photo and some old books, a stand by his ed which housed the ashtray, and a coat rack. There were some things in his closet but none too important. As the trumpet joined into the now almost playful jazz track, Baron pressed his foot up against the wall and began lacing his boots, whistling along to the trumpet solo he had heard so many times before.

Blackness. A natural instinct kicked in to open his eyes and try to find the light, just like every other morning, but the darkness stayed. Evan stifled the sigh in his belly and instead grunted, sitting upright on his bed like a man possessed and swiveling his legs off the side. When his feet met with the cold floor it was as if a flashback came to him and the layout of the room rushed to his head. Evan slept in the main room of the building on a bed off to the side of the entrance. Though blind, he considered himself a more capable protector of the house/business than Baron who he says in a break-in situation would "Yawn, scratch himself, and go back to sleep." Almost robotically, he reached out to the counter beside his bed and grasped the now warm glass of water, gulping it all down before standing and doing his stretches. After getting limber he dropped to the floor and did an absurd number of crunches and push-ups, finishing with raising himself perpendicular to the ground on his fingertips. Quietly and slowly, he counted to 20...until a loud SCRATCH! brought him off-balance and he toppled. The previously held in sigh escaped and Evan took this cue to get dressed. He threw on the attire Baron, the self-procalimed style god, had laid out for him with military vigor and took a seat at one of the barstools in front of the main counter.

After dressing himself, Baron stood up and looked into the smudged mirror on his bedroom door. He smirked at the reflection of the 6 foot tall man he was, dressed in a decent pair of black dress pants, black boots, and a worn white dress shirt with suspenders. His father's son indeed, a well dressed criminal. Continuing to let the 14 minute track play, he opened his bedroom door which led straight to the main room of Missing Link, the front business he ran with Evan. He put another cigarette to his lips and flicked his lighter, igniting the tip as he inhaled and stepped out of the bedroom. As soon as his foot made contact with the main room's wooden floor, he heard "You interrupted my regimen..." Being very cool, Baron slid his left hand into his pocket and brought the cigarette away from his mouth, exhaling a small fog. He walked around the counter and took in the room, a former small inn that the duo's families had purchased together. Being inn runners as a front didn't appeal to the two so they tweaked the idea. The other three bedrooms were empty except for one, which housed the weapons and the former wine cellar stored the bodies of their marks in wine barrels for easy disposal. When he rounded the long bar counter he reached underneath, clutching a bottle of bourbon and placing it on top.

"I can't believe you even still bother with that ancient record player! The thing is more of a hassle to get running than its worth considering you only have that ONE record, you know every note of." Evan heard the familiar heavy Clink! of the bottle of alcohol, let out a short laugh and smiled at the interruption, "Smart. Sometimes the best answer-"

"-is no answer at all. I know it, believe you me." Baron replied, taking down a glass from one of the cabinets above him and setting it next to the bottle. He brought down a second glass but "I'd rather not be sauced first thing in the morning." stopped him before he could pour so he put it away. "Suit yourself, I've done some of my best work buzzed, And you may as well, there sure as hell ain't any eggs and pancakes on the way."

After finishing her first bottle of beer, she placed it aside before grabbing another and stepping outside. "So dreary. What a life to live, always having that fear of being killed out there and then trapping ourselves in a premade coffin." The whole city was gray and dark, just adding to the dreary conditions and look of the city. Walking down the road, she tossed a few coins at a bystanding beggar, eventually finishing her bottle and tossing it in a trash.

Making her way around, she heard gunshouts and shouting towards the entrance of the city. "Uh oh...looks like there's gonna be some trouble here...guess theycould use a hand or two~" She flipped out her pistols and ran towards the gate, greeted by hordes of undead flesh. "Well well...the cleanup duty afterwards is gonna have a long day. I'll let the boys on top take care of the majority. I'll make sure none get in." She smiled, aiming her guns and starting to fire upon the crowd, piercing through many skulls and flesh as her bullets tore through the undead.

"Do we have a job?" Evan said, drumming his fingers on the wooden counter.

Baron, now finishing his third glass of the potent brown liquor, pondered a bit before replying and mumbled out, "Hm...yes. Wait..describe job..."

"A job would be a mark, a contract, an active target...is there anyone we're supposed to KILL for money today?" said the companion now looking up at where he heard Baron's voice and frowning. Business had been alright at the start of the month, at least one body a week, but had tapered off for some unknown reason. Baron chalked it up to people responding to tightened security but Evan didn't know what to make of it.

"ACTUALLY!" Baron began, much louder than he needed to be, "There was a client earlier, came in last night while you were out."

    "AAAND?"

"Oh right, I turned em down. They wanted us to kill a kid, 16 years old. We're not touching that. We drop one of these old scragglers? Fine. But all it takes is for a kid to poof and we got moms crying and Neostice soldiers kicking in our doors to see why we aren't on the case." Baron said, seemingly proud of his ironically moral choice. He finished the last of what was in his glass and slammed it down, immediately throwing on his coat and heading toward the door, which confused Evan. "BUT, there is another option. When I was younger, my family and I wound skulk around the gates of towns and rob passerby, it ain't that noble but neither is snuffing some random. We might find an easy mark. I mean, who's gonna be outside Neostice gates at this hour besides travelers?"

"Well, it's better than sitting here waiting on nothing, let's do it."

After arming themselves, the duo leaves their business and strolls toward the entrance of the city, blending in with the other apatethic citizens of the city. There was an air of desperation in Neostice. Scavengers, con artists, and more lurked behind the walls which promised a false sense of safety. You avoid the Scares by coming in, but make yourself vulnerable to the human monsters. Yet, they were survivors all the same. The two engaged in idle chitchat as they walked, trading laughs every now and then. They would never use the term 'friend' but they were fond of each other. Enough so that they could cooperate peacefully for all the years they have. Approaching the gates, they heard the unmistakable sound of rounds being fired. Oddly enough, it seemed like the guards had let two people through even though the situation outside was hairy. Evan and Baron followed suit and were let through, allowing them to survey the situation outside.

With almost comical timing, a Scare burst from the earth headfirst between the two almost as soon as they left the safety of the electric gate. The zombie snapped his jaws rabidly, strings of rancid saliva hanging from his teeth. Evan put his hand behind his shoulder to unsheath his blade but Baron stopped him, taking the cane he had used as walking stick and swinging it firmly against the zombie's skull. The solid wood hit hard against the fragile, decayed head and all but broke through it, killing the Scare. "Put your eyes on and assess the situation for me, would ya?" Baron said to Evan as another zombie lurched toward them.

"Ugh." Maybe it wasn't such a smart idea blowing the head off of a zombie while it was so close. Rigel had forgotten how much of a mess his shotgun made. The stains on his shirt would likely never come off now. He fired the second shell blowing off the head of another zombie before he began to reload, taking steps away from the approaching Scares. Sounds of gunfire echoed as others joined the fray.

Another two shells later, Rigel knew he would be unable to continue keeping the zombies away with the time it took him to reload. He holstered his shotgun and drew his machete. All he had to do was buy enough time for the Watchmen to load up and do their thing.
"I should've stayed inside. Now I'm wasting ammo and not even getting paid for doing someone else's job." Rigel backed up as a Scare charged at him. He stepped to the side allowing the zombie to hit the fence just inches behind him and swung his blade at another cleaving a part of its head off as the other zombie fried to a crisp. With the scent of burnt flesh in the air Rigel shouted, "What's taking you so long up there!?"

Al looked from the man he had been watching towards the sound of gunshots, lots of gunshots. The sounds were coming from the direction of the city. He scowled, not wanting a battle between him and his home. He fired a grappling hook into the top of a nearby tree and pulled himself, then l aunched out of the tree and opened his glider. He needed to get back to Neostice now and stop wasting time with his mystery man.

When he reached the edge of the forest he was rewarded with the sight of a large zombie horde attacking a small group of people, who seemed to be taking down a decent number of them. Still the horde seemed to be getting bigger. That was when he noticed the corpses pulling themselves out of the earth. "Crap, since when have the zombies been able to pop up out of the ground?" He wondered of they could do the same thing inside the city.

After having reached the desired building top, Ken found himself a good place to sit so that he could see over the gate and what the people over there were doing. From he could tell, they were killing scares that were around the gate. Not surprising in the slightest. Still he looked again and noticed something else, hand that were sticking out of the ground. Since when have they been able to do that? Yep, zombies were coming from underneath the ground. If something like that became common then it would lead to a lot of problems for a lot of people.

It sure was a good thing that he was inside the city and not out there, even if there wasn't all the much that he could do from in here. Even if he did decided to use his gun, not only could it attract some unwanted attention, but there was no guarantee that with this elevation that he could hit one of them. So he left that much up to the Watchmen. With a sigh Ken fell onto his back and stared up at the ceiling.

So long as they couldn't somehow get into the city, he didn't have all that much to worry about. There were still things to worry about of course, but that would just be one less thing for him. He laid there for a bit long before sitting up and staring at the other side of the gate again. Ken had decided to keep an eye on what was going on on the other side of the gate to see if anything else caught his eye. Who know, he might see something else out there.

As Baron got a running start and drove his cane in a powerful swing into a Scare's neck, snapping it obscenely, Evan reached to the pouch on his side and removed his Visor. With no time to waste, he placed it onto his face and uttered, "Vision ON." The goggle-resembling mechanism tightened on the sides of his head and pricked his temples, receiving vitals and neural signals. With a sudden rush the visor which appeared to be a static black surface to others, gave him sight. After overcoming the initial pain and dizziness that comes with the machine starting up, Evan finally swiveled his head to survey the area. Though he had a midly accurate sense of the battle at hand already, the sight put him at a much more opportune edge. "Perform risk assessment." Evan unsheathed his sword, flourishing as he put one foot behind him and got lower to the ground, entering a ready stance. Figures and reticles marked the assortment of Scares near him and Baron while acknowledging Sasha and Rigel as neutral parties.

The voice of the Visor's A.I. echoes in Evan's head: 5 and growing adjacent hostiles, vital readings faint. 1 ally, vitals normal. 2 neutrals, vitals normal. Joints and flesh of hostiles are weak and decayed. Probability of survival....66%.

"Well?! How we, UNGH, looking?" Baron shouted as he took note from another survivor and delivered a finishing swing to a zombie, sending it tumbling onto the electric fence. The beast shook violently for a moment and then crumpled to the ground, burnt. Hearing a growl to his side, Baron reaches into his coat and removes one of his revolvers, turning with perfect timing and firing twice through the neck of the approaching Scare.

From the crouching stance Evan springs up and slashes a Scare diagonally, slicing its head in half. With a quick turn, he butts another with the hilt of his sword, knocking it over. "66%! But I didn't account for sniper support on the Wall, we should be fine as long as we dont get overwhelmed!" He thrusts his blade through the fallen zombie's forehead to finish it and turns to prepare himself for more.

Firing three arrows consecutively, Sky hit a Zombie with one to the chest and one to the neck and stopped it. The final arrow hit one in the leg, bringing it down, but not killing it. Gunshots from the gate were clearly audible and the Watchman couldn't help but wonder if the citizens were worried at the noise. Without warning, Sky saw a few others wander into what was now a battlefield and join in. He cursed them under his breath for their recklessness, but was glad to see that they were actually of some help. At least the guards from within the gate were easily dispatching the underground Zombies as they rose, leaving those to not be a threat. If it wasn't for the fact that, as a Watchman, Sky knew the wall extended well into the ground and there were other...safeguards against Scares, this would night would be horror movie material. Thankfully, they wouldn't be able to breach the gate just yet. "Come on, keep it comin'...unload into all these bastards," he muttered to himself before striking down the hurt Zombie. As it fell, its body rolled onto its back and looked up...at Sky. "What?" He gasped, lowering his bow in disbelief. He slowly raised it again and looked through the scope, but the Zombie was dead. The chill in his spine, though? That remained. "There's no way that thing could see me at this distance," he reassured himself. Zombies didn't really...see like humans did. Even if its intelligence was intact, somehow, it wouldn't have made eye contact with him...its deteriorated body wouldn't have let it...so why was he so sure that they had met eyes?

He shook the thought and picked up his radio. "We're looking good from the rafters. I only see a few more, 6 actually-no, Josh, 6, not five." As the fellow Watchman argued numbers, Sky looked down. "4 o'clock from the gate. There's one rising, man, that's the sixth-erm, five now." He corrected himself after one of the Zombies' head blew open, sniped from above. "Nice shot..." He muttered to whichever Watchman took the shot.
