    Do people constantly insist on turning the phrase/term/whatever the hell this is, "lol", into a word?

    First of all, it isn't a word. Stop capitalizing the "L" in the beginning of it, sticking it in the beginning of your sentence with a comma following it.

    "Lol, yeah."

    This is what I'm talking about. It's a ****ing internet term, stop making it part of your vocabulary you damn nazi's. It's a word made to represent "laugh out loud," so it should be treated as such, without special treatment.
