Before time began, before spirits and life existed, three golden goddesses descended upon the chaos that was Hyrule: Din, the goddess of power; Nayru, the goddess of wisdom; Farore, the goddess of courage. Din, with her strong flaming arms, she cultivated the land and created the red earth. Nayru poured her wisdom onto the earth and gave the spirit of law to the world. Farore, with her rich soul, produced all life forms who would uphold the law. The three great goddesses, their labors completed, departed for the heavens. And golden sacred triangles remained at the point where the goddesses left the world. Since then, the sacred triangles have become the basis of our world's providence. And the resting place of the triangles has become the Sacred Realm.
The creation of the kingdom of Hyrule is a story all know from childhood. Though there are other variations -including other lands, goddesses, and demons- at the core of the legend lies the three Golden Goddesses and their sacred relic, the Triforce. The Triforce... an object of immeasurable power able to make true the desires of its master. Years ago, a man of pure evil came to hold the Triforce of Power: the Black King, Ganon. He brought Hyrule to ruin and ruled it for seven years until he was defeated by the Hero of Time and Queen Zelda, only a rebel princess at the time. After Ganon was defeated, the Hero of Time disappeared and the Triforce of Wisdom was used by the Royal Family to help Hyrule recover.

Ten years after Ganon's defeat, Hyrule is almost back to its former glory and peace is abound. The Sheikah, long thought to have died out with the White Queen's childhood nursemaid, have made a return, now consisting of a small tribe. One of the new Sheikah, Zoku, was tasked by the Royal Family to be the new Royal Historian. However, Zoku had an ulterior motive. Using the records in the castle, his own skills as a Sheikah, and an ancient magic of unknown origin, Zoku was able to construct his own Gate of Time. Secretly using the Gate of Time to travel through various periods of Hyrule, Zoku was able to learn much from the history and future of Hyrule before being confronted by Zelda herself.

Aided by a band of knights, Zelda tried to arrest Zoku for crimes against Hyrule, but was instead attacked herself. Though she survived, many of the knights did not and Zoku vanished into the Gate. The White Queen attempted to follow him, but was blocked by some sort of interference from the Gate itself. She quickly realized Zoku had constructed the Gate with a failsafe: those touched by the Triforce could not enter it. The Royal Family quickly blocked the Gate and set up guards in case Zoku returned. Meanwhile, Queen Zelda herself decided to study it. She realized that due the anti-Triforce spell, the Gate could not be used to go to a time period where the Triforce itself is active, stopping Zoku from encountering another version of herself with the Triforce of Wisdom, another iteration of the Hero of Time, or even Ganon himself due to their connections via the Triforce.

In the week since Zoku's disappearance, small portals through time -dubbed "Time Shifts" by Zelda- have blown through Hyrule. The Time Shifts come as winds, dropping off people, monsters, and even items from other time periods and then blowing away. Some Time Shifts have even swept up beings native to the current Hyrule and presumably blown them to other time periods. Zelda has surmised that the same phenomenon is happening throughout Hyrule's past and future. With no Hero of Time to help them now, the Royal Family seems at a loss...until the Queen constructed a new weapon: the Hyrule Historia. A thick book, with hundreds of blank pages and a green cover, the Historia is connected to the Temple of Time itself. White Queen Zelda has entrusted the book to a Hylian Knight and has tasked him with traveling through the Gate of Time, find others affected by the Time Shifts, and report to the White Queen what he has learned.

Meanwhile, other citizens of Hyrule -past, present, future, and alternate- are being barraged by time anomalies, causing disaster everywhere and everywhen. It is in these perilous times that Hyrule needs a Hero of Time...but must settle for less. Who can these heroes be?

"Hyah! Hwa! Ha! Hrryyyaahh!" The knight signaled each slash with a grunt, knocking back the swinging log each time it returned. He ended the training session with a spinning slash and moved out of the way, letting the log swing slower and slower. He panted slightly as his eyes stayed on the log. He watched it move back and forth...like a pendulum counting down the time. After it stopped, he stood straight and crossed his arms quickly, sheathing his twin swords into their sheaths.

Fitz was not a Hylian. He knew that and those close to him did. However, he was reluctant to be open about his heritage. After all, the land of Termina was unknown to most Hylians when it existed; after its destruction, it might as well have never existed. How do you explain that you weren't Hylian, but the parallel counterpart of it from an alternate land that was destroyed before most in Hyrule even knew it existed? Then again, how do you explain that gusts of wind were literally blowing people to different points in history?

Regardless, Fitz was a Knight of Hyrule, but he wasn't a true Hylian, even if he wore the knight's crest with pride. But now that he was tasked with chasing the rogue Sheikah, Zoku, through time, he left his knight armor for a custom crimson one. The Knights of Hyrule were sworn to protect the Royal Family and the queen was afraid that if he ended up in a time where the Royal Family gave him orders contradictory to his mission, he'd be forced to follow them. To that end, he would chase Zoku not as a Knight of Hyrule --the title that meant the world to him-- but as a knight of his White Queen Zelda. It was most difficult leaving his Knight's Sword behind, but he was able to commission twin blades from the Royal Family's blacksmith, using the designs he remembered from Terminan soldiers of his childhood.

    "CA-CA-RE-AR-ACOO!!"

The Cuccoos outside signaled the sunrise. It was time for Fitz to embark. Checking his equipment one final time, the knight departed his basement, where his makeshift training room was located, and headed to his door. He noticed his knight's badge, bearing the order's crest, hanging on the wall. He hesitated, but in the end stuffed it into a pocket and left. Kakariko Village was brightening as the sun rose, but there were only a handful of people out and about. Sighing, Fitz headed to the village's gate.

    Myrrh

From atop the rooftops of Castle town, Myrrh found himself observing the citizens as they went about their everyday business. It was a long time since he had seen the town this way. It had seemed like just yesterday he had wondered whether or not they sold any books at Malo-mart and scoffing at the fortune tellers shop, but apparently that wouldn't be happening for quite some time... and that creepy mask shop was back. What everyone had ever seen in that place was completely beyond him... though he found that yellow one with the pointy ears entertaining for some reason.

Shaking that from his mind, he turned his thoughts to another of the towns staples: the Temple of Time. What had even happened to that in his own timeline? It just seemed to vanish between visits, from what he could remember. Hmm... temples.

From below, whispers of a "Faerie Boy" reached his ears. It seemed a young Kokiri had come through the town with a faerie shining a deep turquoise color, bought some supplies, and then headed north towards the castle. It was surprising to hear; neither the Deku tree, nor any of the other Kokiri had spoken of a missing or departed comrade. What's more, the familiar feeling of his was pulling him further that direction. Myrrh narrowed his eyes as he stared into the distance. He wondered who or what could possibly be in that direction that was so important. The Kokiri boy perhaps?

A small commotion clued him in to the fact that he had been idle for far too long, and someone had noticed him. Making a small leap, he vanished into a nearby shadow, and watched as the Townsfolk's surprise and confusion only furthered. He resumed his thoughts starting from the Kokiri; what business could a fairy child possibly have at the castle? Perhaps he was the source of the strange feeling? Or perhaps... he could feel the same thing? Did that mean there were others like him?

Giving a sigh, Myrrh's came to a conclusion: He had thought about this long enough. His countenance brightened as he skipped through the shadows towards the castle, making sure to keep out of sight. He shouldn't worry about it too much for now; he was only a child after all, and he could use a new friend. He could only treat the opportunity to make one -and with another child of the forest no less- with optimism.

Inside the walls of Hyrule Castle, a hooded masked figure ran through the shadows, his body blending in with the darkness. He was virtually invisible and silent --thanks to the tricks of his people-- but he still hugged the wall. Somber was quick on his feet, ducking behind corners when he noticed guards and running like wind around them when the guards weren't looking. On his face rested a ceramic mask, white with red lips and the eye of the Sheikah on the upper half. After making his way to the courtyard and into the sunlight, the time-misplaced adventurer quickly found an unguarded bush and hid behind it, dropping to his knees. "Goddesses, help us," whispered the young Sheikah.

A shaking hand reached up and pulled the Mask of Truth from his face as sweat dripped onto it. It had been only three days since Somber found himself in this different Hyrule, but what he knew now shook him to the core. He spent his time learning about the current events, as well as the history of the this Hyrule. His first trip had been to Castle Town, where he learned about the rise and fall of Ganon and how a new castle was being built over the Temple of Time. His second trip was to the current castle, where he used the Mask of Truth to gain more information. The fact that a Sheikah was responsible for such terrible things, such a betrayal of the Royal Family, an affront to the goddesses themselves..."No, this will not stand," he decided, standing to his feet. Somber knew how dangerous it was to make himself known, especially as a Sheikah from a different time. No, he had to stop Zoku himself.

Hearing footsteps, Somber quickly placed the mask back on his face and dashed around the bush. A guard had just marched by, his back to Somber. Without so much as a single breath leaving his body, Somber rushed toward the guard as the Hylian started to turn. Time seemed to slow for the Sheikah as he pivoted around the guard, staying behind his turning back and out of the guard's sight by inches, and jumped. With the stealth of a shadow, he placed a foot on the wall and jumped over the wall. The wind carried him to the grass outside of the castle. In one swift motion, Somber landed, rolled, and ran towards the trees, Castle Town in his sights.

    Noki

A dull thud echoed through the air as a small throwing knife embedded itself in the head of a small, hay stuffed dummy. It was only one of many that had been set up in a small circle near the road between Hyrule Castle and it's nearby town. Giving a brief sigh, The Kokiri named Noki went to pull his new throwing knives out of all the dummies in his makeshift arena. He had already known from experience that he was pretty accurate with ranged devices, but he had also known that he would likely be dealing with much more... lively targets on this little adventure of his. He couldn't really set up the dummies to move, and the people didn't like him using his knives at the games in town. So instead, he had taken to running around as he threw his knives, trying different targets and angles relative to his position.

It appeared that it was a good thing he had thought ahead.

Most of his projectiles had landed just a bit too far off target with only a few finding their exact mark. Overall his shots were still pretty good; but would they be good enough? The thought of not being of any help to the Queen, as well as essentially the world, in such a time of great need was unsettling. He looked over to where Mayli was waiting by a tree. She sat on a branch and stared quietly back at him, her turquoise glow barely visible in the daytime, though slightly highlighted underneath the shade of the tree. He was readying to ask for her opinion on the subject when a different voice broke the silence.

    "What have we here?"

Noki jumped at the sound, and Mayli zipped to his side. They turned to face the newcomer; Noki holding a knife ready. He instantly relaxed however, when he saw what it was that they were faced with. Glowing yellow eyes looked back at them from underneath a red hood. To most the eyes would perhaps seem menacing, but to the Kokiri they were something of a comfort; the other beings eyes were that of one far older than him. Like all that lived in Kokiri forest, this was indeed a child at heart. However, the look in his eyes also conveyed wisdom, as well as a sense of responsibility. To Noki, this was something of an elder; an adult figure whose knowledge and presence were comforting in a strange world.

"It seems the rumors were true. What, if I may ask, is a forest child doing all the way out here?"

    Noki gave a wide grin.

"I could ask you the same thing Mr. Skull Kid!" Said Skull Kid only chuckled as he drew closer.

"My name is Myrrh." He introduced himself rather formally. "Might I ask what your name is?"

"I'm Noki! ...And my Fairy guardian here is Mayli!" He extended a hand to his new friend in greeting. Myrrh extended his own, and the two shook hands rather enthusiastically, quickly turning it into a small child's game. After their laughter had subsided, Myrrh made to speak.

    "So-"

    Something was coming.
    Fast.

Both boy's turned their eyes to the road and quickly drew their weapons once more: Noki still wielding a Knife, with his shielded arm raised in preparation, and Myrrh with a small, rune covered rapier.

These two wouldn't be caught unawares.

The air Somber ran through was a buzz in his ears, but he hardly felt it against his body. The grass around him was a green blur. In the distance, he could see the gate to Castle Town. Thankfully, there were no guards nearb-"What?!" The Shiekah skidded to a stop a few yards from a young boy clad in green and an impish creature, both appearing out of nowhere armed for combat at the sight of him. One hand instinctively reached for the hilt of his sword and the other to the mask on his face.

There was a pause as Somber studied the two. The green clothes in which the young boy was clad were familiar; many young children wore similar clothes through Hyrule's history --Somber's Hyrule, that is. Evidently, in this Hyrule, they were the attire of a specific community. The other creature was familiar, reminding Somber of a living Poe. In his time, there were fairy tales of mischievous imps that resided in the depths of forests and had magical power. "The Lost Children," they were called, but Somber knew they had another name, a name with historical basis. He couldn't remember that name, but it was obvious the Lost Children were more than a fairy tale in this Hyrule.

"You're... surprised to see me?" He broke the silence, letting go of his sword. The expression the children bore wasn't hostility and their postures barely showed preparation...they weren't expecting Somber. The Sheikah had suspected the Lost Child's magic was how they appeared in front of him, but now... he had another thought. Somber pushed back the Mask of Truth, revealing his face. His clan's Mask of Truth was a magical item, at its most powerful it revealed the secrets of the world to whoever wore it. The Mask worked by changing its wearer's perception, showing him what he needed to see. Somber would have avoided the two children if he had seen them, so could the Mask have made him not notice them until he was close enough that he was forced to interact with them. The Mask knew what Somber really needed --even if he didn't-- and was offering him a way to get it. "My name...it's Somber. I am not here to fight," he said, offering his hand to either of the children. "In fact, I am not from around here at all."

    Myrrh

The Skull Child looked on silently as his new charge (for he would most certainly be taking care of this Kokiri from now on) shook hands with the stranger who identified himself as "Somber." He shared a glance with Mayli as Noki introduced himself. Her look was no doubt the same as his: They would fight to defend the child if they had to. It was strange how fast they had come to the same page, having not even actually spoken to each other yet. Though perhaps its oddity did nothing to make it surprising. For Mayli, it was simply a fact of protecting her Kokiri: She likely hadn't been to keen on any stranger since she and Noki left the forest, with the exception of Myrrh. If he hadn't been a skull child, she probably wouldn't be fond of him either.

As for Myrrh himself... suffice to say that Skull kids have a certain distrust of individuals that society labels as "Adults." It wasn't really something he himself could describe, having never actually interacted with too many adults himself. It was just an odd, angry feeling he would get around them. He once considered that it might be that it was because their kind were universally seen as children, and Adults were supposed to be an authority to children. More than one adult he had met in his travels had treated him rather arrogantly, assuming they were of greater age, wisdom, and importance.

Myrrh had been a "child" since before they were born.

He had plenty of time to learn things, including the difference between knowledge and wisdom.

He also didn't really care what rank the adults were in their modern society. He had no part in it.

But that was still just speculation, and it would seem rather odd that an entire race have the exact same reason for disliking adults. Especially seeing that he was the only one that even left the forest. When it came down to it, neither he, nor the fairy had anything personal against the taller figure, but he had shied away from his hand all the same. He would give the man the benefit of the doubt, and not bother showing undeserved hostility, but he kept close to Noki all the same. Having sheathed his blade, Myrrh was ready to draw it again at a moments notice. It was okay though, because Noki had enough enthusiasm and trust for the both of them.

Though, he was a little disappointed he would have to wait to get to know his new friend better.

"-And this is Myrrh and Mayli!"

The younger boy motioned to them excitedly as he introduced them.

"It's a pleasure." Myrrh took the effort to make the greeting sincere: After all, despite his doubts, this could be a new friend.
Though looking at him again, the man's strange clothes had symbols that were somewhat reminiscent of...

Myrrh had to keep himself from clenching his fist too tightly when the recent of events of his home time came to mind.
He once again convinced himself to look past his species inclined prejudice and give the man a chance.

Somber shook hands and even bent himself in an introductory bow. As he raised himself, he lowered his hood, letting his sand-colored hair see the light. "It is my pleasure, I'm sure," he showed a half-smile. It was genuine, but all he could muster at the moment. He eyed the Lost Child and the actual child and the...fairy? Somber always believed in fairies, but they've been extinct for centuries...in his land. Of course, he wasn't in his land anymore. Somber was in a brand new one with a different history where different cultures and races survived. 'Wait, that's it! Different history!' The reason why the Mask of Truth led Somber to these potential companions... "Pardon my question, but...are either of you native to Hyrule. I mean, this specific Hyrule?" He found it difficult to phrase the question. "I am..." he hesitated, wondering if he should expose himself...but he had faith in the Mask's judgment, "I am not from Hyrule, not from this time. In fact, I don't believe I'm from this timeline." Far behind him, soldiers started to march from the castle.

    Noki

Noki was found himself caught by surprise: he hadn't considered that there might be others like him. Seeing Myrrh's own surprised reaction confirmed that he too was from a different time. "Yeah! I mean... I don't know about how different the timeline is, or even if it's different at all..." Noki shrugged. "...But the time me and Mayli come from is about 7 years ago." The fairy child looked to his elder as to question his own origins. The look was all the prompt that the Skull Child needed.

"I am from a time far into the future" The other boy seemed to be at least partially musing to himself. "Much can happen in that time, and yet... I do believe the events that set that future would have already happened if this were the same timeline I am from."
