And it still kind of does. But some really awesome things have happened in the past few days to make it suck less. I finished writing my college essays, and as soon as I get those reviewed by my college counselor I'm applying early decision to my first choice college (for game design). I think I have a fairly good shot at getting into the major too, so I actually think I can get into college now, as opposed to when I thought I would be living in a box. I'm taking a class called Capstone this year, which is basically a year-long research project on a chosen subject. I'm doing my project on the history of art in video games, starting with the 1980s (though touching on the "first video game" debate slightly from the 50s) and going all the way up to modern era, probably ending with the 3DS. In addition to the 50+ page research paper I'll be writing, I'm also making my own character that will progress through the different graphics eras (8-bit to 3D character model) and possibly an outline for a game if I have time. So not only do I get to play video games and list them as sources, I also get to use what I learned in the game design class I took over the summer, and I've started the art portion this week. And to top it all off, I won the election for my school's division of the National Art Honor Society this morning. Given that it's only Wednesday I'm reaaally hoping nothing happens to **** this week up. >>
I envy you for knowing what you want to do with your career, I'm still stuck between Animation and Game Design.
I'm failing to see how you could make the thread title/content "So life sucked and it still kind of does" and then go on to list all of that awesome stuff? D:
It's a tough field, it's pretty competitive, but eh, all art related fields are. xD You might want to look into animation then, it has a few more job opportunities since you can be an animator in games or movies/TV. I will tell you now though, it is extremely frustrating and time consuming to animate things. My final project for the summer took three days to animate and the final video was nine seconds long. xD Because the family **** is still going on. It's kind of causing me to like being at school more than home. >>
Doesn't mean it will work that way. I know my major is media/communications. Right now Math is making it impossible for me to make my major.
I was actually really unsure what to do until I went to a pre-college program this past summer, it really helped a lot in terms of getting a taste of what college courses are like. xD
It's actually not uncommon, especially in college lol It is rare to know how you want to spend your life though. I'm in my second year and still unsure lol
ThisThisThis. Leaning more towards game design, though. WHY CAN'T MY SCHOOL BE AS AWSOME AS YOURS, WOLFIE.
So all I know is that when I get older I want to create something. I kinda want to draw or write stories, so it would be awesome if I could take up that vacant author spot at Bungie studios, but it'll most likely be filled by then. I also reeeeally want to either make video games, or design stories/concept art for them. But I'm planning on minoring in music because I find it interesting. But I could also become a different kind of artist, or a full-time musician if stuff ever takes off. good ideas y/n EDIT: also i'm most likely going to study a semester abroad in England if i can.
Just consider the job market when you'd be out of college, the thing about game design is that gaming is a luxury, and if the global market takes a massive dive people won't want to spend money on games. So yeah. >> And my school sucks lol. I pretty much endured three years of hell in order to get my schedule the way it is now, and one of the reasons I'm probably allowed to do video games for my project is because the administration knows I'm really lazy. xD
Oh man! That's so cool! Myself, it feels like I'm going through college instead of senior year of highschool. Let's just say I have two math classes in a row with other hard classes... so yeah! Congratz! I hope you get far in it. Will you share your awesomeness with us in the future by chance? ^^
So what kind of job are you going to take in Game Design? Concept Artist? Character Designer? 3d artist? ._.
Well...right now I'm considering majoring in game design and minoring in Japanese, but if I get a job in game design I'd definitely show you guys what I'm allowed to. xD Hm...ideally, concept artist or character design, but I'm not bad in 3D design. Granted I'm no expert, but I've had some experience with it. A lot of that tends to happen outside of school, but academically I tend to be extremely lazy. I almost failed last year because I barely did any homework. >>
You're not alone there. Except I didn't almost fail >_> This year I'm trying really hard to actually do the homework. Granted most of it is half-a$$ed, but still.
