So I made a Minecraft Server.

Anyone care to help me test it? Here are the instructions. I'm using Hamachi because I really don't want to mess with port forwarding. This makes it simpler. If it works, I'll post these instructions in the Community Playdate thread.

Here are the instructions on how to get onto it.

First, download and install a program called LogMeInHamachi. You can find this program here: https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi/download.aspx

Use the Unmanaged version for simplicity's sake.

Second, open up Hamatchi, click Network, and then click Create a New Network. Make the network name whatever you want, so long as it lets you do it.

Third, go to Join an Existing Network, and join the network: KHV Minecraft Server. The password is tienewman. I'll have to add you manually after you add yourself. This network will serve as a whitelist until the server becomes more popular.

Finally, open Minecraft, go into multiplayer, and use the IP address 5.36.28.137
If you did everything right, you should land in the world.

does your ISP provide unlimited bandwidth? I know my iSP does not allow private servers...

 

Sorry guys, I shut it down because I had to sleep. It'll be back up momentarily after I install a couple mods and I'll also have the instructions posted in Community Playdate.

I'm not sure, but if it didn't I probably wouldn't be able to get this to work. I'm pretty sure I don't have unlimited bandwidth though.

Well I regret to inform you that I cannot have the server up now. I have to leave for a while, and may not be back soon. I'll have it up as soon as I get back though.

They're kind of all premium except for Classic servers. Notch has it set up so that only legal copies of the game can play online.

 

Ah, Hamachi. How I hate it. Never worked right for me. I just use my whitelisted bukkit server.​

 

An FYI for you all, when you do this over hamachi, you don't have to pay for minecraft. I'm not saying not to pay for it, because its effin awesome (I paid for it myself). Unfortunately, Minecraft hates my graphics card so I can't join. Also, by using hamachi (the free one at least), you might experience a bit of lag.

If you have downloaded the server from minecraft.net, may I suggest adding some mods to the .jar file? I've done it, and it's a lot of fun, the planes mod in particular.
You should also give people OP/Admin, depending on what you want the server to be, if you want it to be build whatever you can, then you should definitely do it, so that they can use the (using my nick as an example) /give noroz 64 263 which happens to give me 64 coal.
