When has adding time travel ever been good for a plot?

Time travel wasn't added to Chrono Trigger. It was always in Chrono Trigger

I do not read comics for a few reasons. They are not examples of plots in general.

It all depends on presentation. My experience with time travel plots is interesting Because on one hand you end up with paradoxes guaranteed (unless you are following the fate model). On the other I often times enjoying playing those games more, provided I don't try and pick apart the plotline too much.

The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time (considered the best game ever by many) says hi.

    Holy crap
you people need to retake reading comprehension class
    I said ADDED time travel
    ADDED
    ADDED
    ADDED
    ADDED
Ocarina of time did not ADD time travel, it's called "OCARINA OF TIME" it was about time travel since the very ****ing beginning.

Steins;Gate does not ADD time travel to it's plot, the premise of the show IS time travel.

    Why the **** not?
does The Enterprise count then? Because that would be another prime example as to time travel being an overused gimmick.

Ah, sorry. In that vein, I may agree with you... But I do not read stories that 'add' in time travel. Time travel itself is not the problem here. Changing the world dynamic midway is.

    Nah
Both of those games are original stories that didn't have time travel added to a sequel. Don't try to argue for Zelda, because 98% of Zelda games have no relation to the other(Like FF) and there was no game before OoT that connects directly to it. Time Travel in a sequel of any sort generally equals bad.

LOST would like a word with you. They added time travel in the... Fourth or fifth season I believe? And it worked really well.

They've said since the beginning of Final Fantasy 13-2 that it had to do with overlapping realities. This is how they are doing that. It seems that each reality is a branch off of key points in the past.

Maybe I'm just confused on what you mean by added. This isn't like they made most of the plotline and went "You know what would be fun right now? Time Travel"

Final Fantasy XIII is a game that had nothing to do with time travel.
    At all.
There's wasn't even a hint of time travel elements in the original Final Fantasy XIII
but now there is, and for the record time travel tends to be very gimmicky. When your story has no way to advance, add time travel and you can have future Bob come and visit present Bob, BAM you now have a new story.
    It's lazy and overused.

You lost me at the part where you implied LOST was good.

Considering the weird timeline stuff that happens in Zelda universe because of OoT, time travel could actually be considered a part of the series.

    No it's not
Miyamoto has gone out on a lam and stated that the Zelda game's have little to do with eachother.
The whole "WELL THIS GAME WAS FIRST" is just fanwank.

Weird, seeing as Word of God confirmed the split timeline theory.

And would the Android Saga of DBZ count as good example of adding time travel?
