Is KHII vs. KH. KHII is winning right now, but oh god, the Year of the Decade thing has been so close on a few things. Like KHII/KH and Melee/Brawl. There's actually a few possible interseries matchups. ._.
I can see why KHII is winning, I mean KH by far has a better story, but KHII was a heck of a lot more fun to play in that there were more minigames, the Gummi Ship was actually fun, synthesizing was vastly improved, and the battle system, while still very hack-and-slash, was a little more enjoyable. I'm interested in whether or not KotOR is still in. :B *goes to check* I doubt it'll get close to the win though, the battle system really drags it down. Edit: woo, KotOR vs. FFIX. Never played FFIX, but I know it has a rather intense though small fanbase (in comparison to, say, VII or X).
While I will say the fighting system in II was more fun I felt that magic was just a pointless add-on to it. In KHI I felt that magic was kinda a necessity to survive.
I don't think so really; my main beef with KHII's magic system is that the moment you use Cure your MP bar is completely depleted, so in a tough battle you have to kind of reserve your MP for Cure. But if you carry a lot of potions/ethers then it isn't too big of a problem, and Reflect is so much fun, haha. KH was nice in that you could use spells a little more freely though, I agree with you there.
I liked KHII more because of the worlds, to be honest. Some of the ones in the first one were a complete pain for me to play through, but II had Mulan and The Lion King. Which are probably my two favorite Disney movies. xD And the actual, physical "I can tell what you are" enemy that the Organization was was more enjoyable to me than "Oh...Maleficent's being evil again." Plus I actually feel kinda sympathetic to the Organization, though their actions weren't great their intentions weren't evil, per se. Unlike Maleficent, who is more or less the definition of powerhungry evil. Though...throughout both games the Ansems got confusing. >>
I really hated Pride Lands. I don't mind the Lion King as a movie, but Pride Lands were just so irritating. I do agree about Mulan though, lol. Personally I don't mind that it was just "Maleficent is evil, Sora is good." Kingdom Hearts, while it has an excellent story, wasn't pretending to be anything more than a story of light and dark, friendship, and the knight and the princess. There were clear extremes between good and evil, with really only character wavering between them (Riku). KHII decided to complicate everything--they made us, yes, sympathize with the Organization. But regardless, we were still expected to slaughter them. I don't mind a complicated plot, but if you're going to do it, you've got to do it right, imo. KHII just... wasn't right. ._. It was far too long story-wise as well, there could have been several hours where nothing really relevant to the plot was going on, you were just trudging through Disney world after Disney world, questioning "oh god when will the singing end."
Well I still think cure was the only thing needed for KHII. You could easily slaughter heartless without magic. But Graviga was very useful when you used Thundaga after it. Insta-kill there.
