Well she's agreed to watch Lucky Star if I read both the last hundred pages of Twilight and New Moon. So I ask you KHV: Is curing a girl that I'm not even really into of anime-phobia worth finishing Twilight and reading its sequel?

The Twilight books aren't honestly that bad. They're like most other low quality teen fiction. It's just that they got unbelievably overhyped.

Also, is Lucky Star really the best option?

Not unless your also going to cure her of her touching-your-penis-phobia.

I figure if I made her watch Death Note or some other action oriented anime, then she'll never be cured. The only romance anime that I know are directed at men if you know what I mean, so they're out of the question too. Other slice of life anime are also sort of freaky if you don't want to watch them. Lucky Star is basically Seinfeld + Peanuts, which is a fairly good mix for someone who's watching it against her will.

@Dr. Chemistetic: You do know that I'm in a relationship, right?

Personally, I'd use Haruhi. Lucky Star can get dull, and it's loaded with references only anime fans will get.

I'd try that, but she'd sort of freak out when it's revealed that Haruhi subconsciously controls every aspect of the universe. I figure the dullness of Lucky Star will help to show her not all anime is so "out there" and the miscellaneous anime references will get her interested in other anime. I've thought this through quite a bit.

Both recommendations are bad for first time anime fans, honestly

Try something simple, since Haruhi can get a bit hard to understand at some points unless your simply focused on that anime intently. As for Lucky Star, you have to be into Anime and Japanese Pop Culture to understand most of the jokes, so take that off your list.

Is she a girly girl? Try Sailor Moon, into romance? Romeo X Juliet is good, or try a shojo anime like Ouran High School Host Club. Try to connect the anime to something she can like and relate to.

Also, TWILIGHT isn't bad at all, don't listen to others. If you want to do this, then just read.

I'd have to agree with Rayku on the shojo thing; I'd even stoop down to looking for old episodes of Hamtaro or something along those lines. Although I think OHSHC is a funny anime, I don't think it's good for someone whose new to anime and doesn't like surprises (by surprises I men crossdressers, twincest, crazy karate kids, french otakus, drag queen father, etc.). Lucky Star is a little dull, but I guess there aren't many surprises in there, so it may be a good attempt.

If she wants one that isn't too weird, she could try Kino's Journey. Or Working!!. Or School Days.

Actually, no. All of those would be a bad idea.

You know what? Just throw a few Ghibli at her. Start out with Grave of the Fireflies. Either she'll like it, or she'll become emotionally scarred. Either will be a suitable reaction.

Except I want to not be scared of anime for her entire life. What'll she do when the Japanese take over the world? Huh?

It seems to appear that all good anme have a sense of crazy to them. Seeing that your friend has read through Twilight and is making you read it, she should be a little crazy herself. Of course, you could always pull the "Your making me read this crap, so just watch this because it's fair!".

Nah, I offered to read it if she watches Lucky Star. She's still mulling it over, but it looks like she'll agree. Ah, what won't I do for the well being of a girl?

No, Grave of the Fireflies isn't emotionally scarring because of anything anime. In fact, it's the least crazy anime I know. Everyone acts realistically, and there's nothing supernatural about it. (Possibly with the exception of the ghost-narrator, but that's relatively normal.)

Either way, if she thinks all anime is like that, then she'll be scared of it.

Yeah, but she may also realize that not all anime is like Lucky Star (and thank God for that).
