Can FRAPS record what you do on your computer screen (e.g., browsing the Internet)? So far, I've noticed it only records my desktop when I'm trying to record a game like The Incredible Machine: Even More Contraptions (for some reason, it won't record the actual game).

Is it possible to set it to record what I do on my computer?

I'm asking because I want to make a tutorial video of vBulletin's Style Variable Editor to show what each variable controls.

Yeah--I don't think that would work for video gaming. You should use a regular cam recorder to record games or use Hypercam because Camstudio sucks--as in to say--really bad. Hypercam also has an HD feature. Hope this helps.

No, FRAPS works for video games. It's how I record PSU.

However, that's not what I'm asking. Read the OP again.

Yes, but you helped with the wrong thing.

And, no, I don't know the answer already.

If you open fraps before your internet it should allow you to. I just tried it myself and when I was on the internet already the fps counter didn't come up but when I opened it after it came up and it did record. So yes if you are using it to record something on the internet it will work. For just your desktop I don't know.

Doesn't seem to be working properly.

It plays sound and shows the cursor, but nothing else shows -- it's just a black screen.

FRAPS isn't really designed to record regular desktop activity, I don't think. I've only ever been able to use it for video games. CamStudio works great for desktop recording.

If you're really stuck on using FRAPS, though, try putting your web browser into fullscreen mode (usually F11).

    It didn't even record, LOL.

No, though, I'm not fixated on FRAPS, it's just all I have currently to record PC games or emulator games on the PC. Is CamStudio free?

Where does it save the recorded videos and can the folder be changed?

Yeah, that's typical of any recording software.

I think you forgot to answer the first part. XD Which folder does it save the recorded files in when first installed?

Alright, I figured as much, but it couldn't hurt to ask. How do you choose the destination folder for recorded videos?

There's no default, iirc when you start a recording it asks you where you would like to save the file and what you would like to name it.

I managed to save it by using VLC Media Player's Save Playlist to File option under the Media dropdown. However, nothing came up before starting or after stopping on my first test to choose the destination folder. Additionally, I can't upload the test file I saved because it's an invalid format or something (.xfps).

    After clicking record:

Then, for my second test just now, when I changed Do not record audio (default) to Record audio from speakers under the Options dropdown, it gave me this error:

When I stopped recording my last test, it did not save because this error came up, which I believe is because I changed the audio option:

Also, my first recording test did not look right. Screenshot:

I did a few more tests, but I still can't find where they're being saved so I can delete them.

They're taking up space. I mean, it's not that much, but still.

I still can't find anything. I even tried a search here with no help.

I even watched a video. When the user clicked stop, the save window came up, but it's not with me. It just opens the recorded file in whatever my default video player is -- in this case, VLC Media Player.

If it helps, I have CamStudio 2.6.

Just change it to Do not play AVI file.

You can change the directory and stuff in there too.

    Thank you, Misty! :)

Where do I find the ones I've done so far to delete them? By default, it's set to "Use Windows temporary directors." What folder is that?

Also, what about the other issues with the choppy look and such (see post #17).
