oh god, i remember being hounded by those while playing and the countless gameovers i've gotten. just run like hell, it's possible to kill but if i remember correctly not worth the effort.
It is assumed you will use the HP "cheat" to take them down, which is the last one available to you. Before then just run. It may be possible but it is by no means worth it.
