I was shopping today and I went in all my usual stores that I go into and mainly people left me to just look around, which is fine but some people were just a bit, I don't know, rude? Let's start with me trying to find the foundation I wear and having to walk past perfumes (with my iPod on low enough to hear people.) Perfume woman: "Hello! Would you like to try the new fragrance from Lady Gaga?" Me: "No thanks." Perfume woman: "Here!" *sprays perfume directly near my face* Then I went to look at comics in a relatively new comic store (I was looking for either the new Gambit series or a Deadpool comic) Me (after looking for 10 minutes): "Um, hi. Do you have any of the new Gambit series in stock?" Comics Guy: "Typical. Go for the pretty pictures, do you? *goes to computer and turns on the screen* Nope." Me: "Oh, okay. *goes to the Deadpool section*" Comics Guy: "That won't be your type!" Then we had someone who didn't know who Black Widow was in a costume shop where I was standing in front of a load of superhero costumes and when I explained what she wore and everything he just went "Ah. Well, good luck with finding that. We do have red wigs." (I have red hair.) Just general craziness. Including THIS in my fave clothing store: Guy: "Hey! Back from saving Gotham?" (I had bought a Batman hoodie there over a month ago.) Yeaah, a bit insulting and a bit weird, but kinda funny. I probably wouldn't have minded the perfume thing if it actually smelled nice, but it didn't. I have no idea what smell that was.
The first one usually isn't that bad xD It was just that woman, also, IDK what that smell was, but I'm guessing llama. The second one, I'm never going there again.
The same person once followed me around the store, tapped me on my shoulder and then just said "X-Men, right?" and he remembers really random stuff about my friends. Also once saw me walk in, stood by the door, looked around and came out with "You didn't bring Loki woman again, did you?" xD 'Loki Woman' was a friend of mine. Also stole my comic bag and hid it behind the tills O_o I see why, customer loyalty and all that xD But I kinda think that store just has generally funny people. Before, a band that I'm not particularly interested in was signing there and they offered me a wristband so I declined saying that I wasn't really into them and this random guy walked past and went "You and me? No longer friends." I was also in a changing room and someone was pretending to be a dinosaur O_o
Woah, I've never had any crazy service like that but my friend was once followed around Superdrug (a cosmetics shop) by two old ladies who thought she was gonig to shoplift. I also have been the the same sandwich shop for years now and order the same thing each time (because it's like sex in a bun : D) so now I just walk in and they're like "The usual?" I don't know whether I like it or not.
Well, at least they can't mess up your order xD And SUPERDRUG? SERIOUSLY? They once asked my friend if she was shoplifting. She was picking up hair dye to do streaks in her hair and this lady just walked up to us and said "Are you going to pay for that?" O_o
Why are people so suspicious of us? ;-; Can't we go into a shop without being harrassed? I also dislike the stores where you go in and the staff walk up to you and say "Yes, what can I get you?" you say "Just looking" and then a few minutes later they return to you and ask if you need assistance. GAHH! I'll never return to that shop again.
You are the costumer those stores need, but not the one they deserve! ...Sorry. That comic store guy seems kind of like a dick, you should never insult the people who buy from you regardless of their preferences in the products you sell.
That's kinda like the store the last one was from. The staff come up to you and just kinda go "Can I help you?" and you say "Just looking" and they'll either go away or pick up things and shove them in your face sometimes. But most of them are just relaxed enough so that they'll just be like "Okay, well if you see anything..." or in the case of that guy "Well, we have some more of these brands that you like and a (insert something to do with Superheroes here)" xD
Comic Guy sounds like a cool funny dude. You should go there again and tell us what he says. His talk is hilarious.
In India they were exactly the same, literally a staff member per customer- they would just follow you around even when I told them I had NO money (because I didn't, it was in the car) they still followed me trying to bargain with me. I was looknig at the swords and they were like "WE GIVE YOU GOOD PRICE FOR THESE!" I'm glad I escaped xD That store guy does sound very rude, stereotyping much?
Not really. He knows that I like superheroes and certain brands that they stock and he'll show me the new stuff only if I want to see it. The superhero thing rarely comes up xD Unless you're talking about Comics guy, then yes.
Stores force their employees to do this too, I work at Best Buy & if you're on the floor and see someone you have to ask them "what brings you to best buy today"
Correct. For a few reasons as Misty probably already knows, For one, it's polite. Some people want to get in and get out and stores don't like being full of confused people who can't locate an HDMI chord. For two, it drives up the chance of sales due to conversations and upsells as a customer would generally always pick the cheapest thing in the aisle if anything at all. An addendum, it's meant to close sales as well. And three, it's a loss-prevention thing. Think about it, when would you be more likely to steal- When there's nobody watching you, or when you know Nosey McF*ckass keeps checking in on you constantly?
