I was thinking these days what is the purpose of people's life.I couldn't get anywhere so i started thinking about money. So i wondered, what is special about this stupid lil piece of paper?I started thinking about ancient times too and i saw that there were money there too!But at least they were made from gold and were very valuable. But what's so special about that piece of paper?I believe that this is the purpose of people's life these days.To get more money. It's a sad fact actually, but i think it's true. What do you think about this matter?

Yeah...But you should think about other stuff too! Some lies...Like the ''go to school to learn'' lie.I think that all this is done to get good marks,go to college and BECOME RICH!See?that's what i'm talking about. And when people DO become rich, they have nothing else to do because that's their purpose in their lifes. And that's why rich people are sad.But that's just what i believe , if anyone has another opinion about this matter , plz tell me!

It is sad how so much in our world revolves around money. And as you already said, what is so special about this little piece of paper? It is kinda like the old times where it was actually 'valuable' as you put it, just in a different form. I agree with you in this, but it's interesting how we need it to survive.

I don't think it is neccessarily the purpose of people's lives to get money these days, rather we are left little choice. It is impossible to survive and make your way without it. Yes ok it sometimes appears that money is all people care about, but in the society we live in we have little choice. It is the people in charge who have caused this not the ordinary people who just want to get by.

For example we pay council tax which is meant to pay for things like the fire service and rubbish collection right? Well now they are introducing an additional charge to pay for rubbish collection.

So maybe we do go to college to get better jobs to get more money (personally I go because it is what I want to do ^^) but I think we have litle choice, either we get the money we can or we get left behind and struggle in an ever more expensive world.

Our dependance on money is really sad...but, unfortunately, that's the way we keep order among our social and economic classes.

If you think about it, though (and I've been inside the vault at the Federal Reserve and got the whole thing explained to me, so I hope I can tell it to you decently) our money has hardly changed at all since it was first invented way back in the day.

Back then, money was gold and nothing more. The higher the weight, purity, and amount of the gold, the more money it was worth. The majority of money (coins, then) was made out of precious metals like silver and gold. Now, though, our money is made out of paper. So what made the difference?

The answer is absolutely nothing. The money you hold in your hands is more of just a promise by the United States of America (and whatever country you may live in) that they have the gold and silver in their vaults to back up that amount. In other words, the paper and cloth that you hold in your hands is completely worthless. If those stores of gold and silver where to somehow cease to exist, then there'd be quite a problem, since the Dollar would be worth nothing.

    *pantpant* Hope that helps.

It's not that people want money, they want other things...that can be bought with it.

Money's important because it's backed up by Gold and Silver. That makes money like...gold and silver. People like things that are of value and what others want. That's the way human nature goes XD

Nowaday's money has been going crazy with people. There is a reason why you go to school, learn and become successful. To get money. People with alot of money earn respect and get looked upon from others. It proves they are a above the rank from normal people. You can't compare an average person with Bill Gates. It just doesn't seem like a normal comparison because you obviously know who is richer >_>

Money is something worth the craziness, because it basically equals everything else in the world that can be taken with it. Agree with me?

Actually, money is the very thing that gives you a roof over your head, clothes on your back, running water and food. It isnt so bad, nothings wrong with it actually but when you go too far and start loving money and getting upsessed with it, then of coarse it's going to be a problem. And besides, it's not money that is evil, it's the love for money that is evil.

The way I see it,if we didn't have money, people would just take things and all things in store would be gone in a heartbeat. Then most people would have nothing.Basically, the whole point of money is to keep people in order.
Of course,I always thought the bartery system was good but, hey, that's just my opinion.

It is sad how human beings have gotten obsessed with money. I guess it ties in with the Capitalist society we live in.

    Allow me to explain.

We today are not just satisfied with a roof over our head or food on the table or clothes on our back. We need more. We have to have the fastest car, the best MP3 player, gaming systems, the trendy clothes.

All about keeping up with the Jonses.

This little sheet of paper mentioned. It's not even wholly paper. It has more in common with your t-shirts than the paper in your books. The cotton fibers is what gives it it's longevity and yet allows it to be folded and go through the wash.

As a college student, I know the value of money. My tuition for the fall came close to $2,000. And I still have to buy books which will be another fee.

I also have to worry about gas costs since I commute to college and I don't live that far away from campus. Luckily gas is coming slowly down but for a while there it was sort of high.

I believe that money on its own isn't such a bad thing. It's when it becomes the driving point in one's life that it becomes a bad thing. When the money is all that matters above friends and family.

There's my 2 cents worth on the subject.

No one's said this but. The reason for it is because value is relative. Gold has no actual value. Monetary value is kinda abstract. We like gold 'cause we're like magpies it's shiny. We like money because it is a promise that we can get something in exchange for a rectangle of cotton and cellulose. The thing that makes something valued is whether it is wanted or not. If more people want money more is made and since the promise is only ever worth as much as the government can back it in goods and or services the value goes down as it is stretched further. That is how we still have money in situations were the country is failing economically it just won't be worth as much. Inflation is bad because if you have money from before and the amount goes up you are effectively losing money because the value that the government puts on it is less than when you first got it. This is kinda how it goes.

People don't go crazy over the paper. They go obsessed with what it's worth IMO.

agreed. but then again, if someone gives up their time for someone else, its usually in their nature to want a reward. also, if someone gives up something, they want something in return. that, in itself was money. ....... i just thought if rice was money, then... would we still eat it? :3

That's true as well. It's changed form a barter world (where you trade one thing for another). Money is like that, where you can trade it for something else, and the person who got the money can again trade it for another, and so on.

Good point saxoR_vs_aroS, but you have to agree it's not really putting this enormous grin on your face that a lot of things on this planet revolves about this.
