Is it illegal...

To rip DVD's to my computer if I own them, paid for them, and am not going to redistribute them?

I pretty much just want to take screenshots to use for avatars and stuff.

no, you have every right to make personal use copies of material you own.

 

If it's rippable (new word?), then it should be legal.
Since you're not gonna sell it to someone, there shouldn't be a problem. <_>

Besides, with the amount of people that do illegally sell DVDs, I don't think you'd be in any danger. xD

Most of the really good ones you have to pay for.

You probably can't get a decent one without having to hack it. I tried finding a bunch of different kinds, and they either required a registration key or took too long to download from the disc. Otherwise they were awful quality. *shrugs*

 

If you think about it, there is nothing illegal to do with it.

Kinda takes a long time to rip though, but at least it's good quality. I used it for my Advent Children DVD :D

If you have Vista, just go into Windows Media Center, and click burn DVD. ._.

I use Roxio 9, but it's technically a $300 dollar program if you buy it. >.>'
