So is this the time frame now? Ten years gone by and now we can joke about it, eh?

Why? For using that picture of 9/11?

Get over it. It's in the past.

And this type of statement is why history repeats itself.

Hey guys, remember that time the British burned down the White House? They were all, "BUUURRRRNNN! Ooh! Picnic!"

I believe you're supposed to wait 25 years.

10 years is no time at all for the people who lost friends and loved ones that day. No matter how long has passed, we should still be respectful of other people feelings here. Even if you didn't know anyone who died there, it's still the loss of hundreds and hundreds of innocent lives. I think maybe their lives were worth more than a comic and a snide remark just to get a few cheap laughs.

I guess that depends on whether you have any emotional investment in the incident.

Friends and family of the dead wouldn't be laughing. Those who weren't, or who are emotionally dead, basically don't care.

I have a surprisingly deep investment in the incident, considering I had not lost anyone and I am not American, so patriotism is not a factor. I see it as a key point for modern humans inner reflection on what it is to be human. An inspiring but still catastrophic time for America.

You know the Holocaust is almost 100 years old and even though its used as the butt of jokes, it still doesn't make it anymore humorous.

    Sigh. But fine, whatever.

You can have an emotional investment in the incident and yet enjoy humour noir, both aren' t mutually exclusive. I fail to register how that joke could truly upset anyone, granted it wasn' t exactly an exercise in finesse. But yeah, as a humorist said once "you can joke about anything and everything, just not with everyone".

True, you just made the Topic of the September 11th attacks seem ignorable and to be 'got over' in a way.

The more we forget what we have done in the past, the more likely we are to do it again in the future. We have our scars to remember the time before now when humanity was so cruel to one another. Even in that disaster people from all walks of life stood together to save each other, to rescue, to protect, to comfort. The footage of that day, now more than ever gave me hope in humanity as a whole, that when needed they can and will do what is right.

It is a topic, as I have said, that I have a very deep investment in. I apologise for directing my comments at you, Rat.

I am an advocate of Dark humour. Point is, there is no humour here. Instead, it is just dark. Unfortunate.

This went from a misunderstood joke to a serious discussion.

@Kam - Im not saying we should all just say "Oh hey lets leave 9/11 in the past and forget about all those lives that were destroyed".

This is a bit complicated for me. I don't join conversations like this a lot, so.

Would making fun of Osama bin Laden be funny??? I don't know where Im going with this.

Some people were able to joke about it, I doubt very many found it funny. I think the important difference here is having the ability to joke about something and it being generally acceptable to joke about it.
