Yes it is. In my state, you're required to get it before working in any food-related job, even stuff like Jamba Juice. http://www.servsafe.com/home
It's not that horrible. It's just a $15 online course that only takes an hour and a half. And it makes me feel better because even though this stuff should be common sense, most people wouldn't think to make sure food is safe to eat. Unfortunately, it wouldn't let me take the test until I sat through the 1.5 hour training. >_>
this is what bugs me though. to get a minimum-wage job at burger king or whatever, you have to pay money to take a test that you have to pass before you're even considered to be hired. it is the employers responsibility to teach it's employee's those things. i just get mad at these sorts of things that are really unnecessary.
Some companies will pay for the course for you. I just thought I would do it before even applying for jobs to make me that much more hireable.
You guys are lucky for food safe (BC version of the course) You had to spend like 5 extra hours in a class after school for 2 days in a row and then take a test. It cost $35 with the school discount. And you didn't even have to pay attention to the course to ace the test
It's not required to work with food here, but one food handler is supposed to be on-shift at all times. I was going to reply saying "oh my boss is always pressuring me to get certified" but then I remembered I don't have a job anymore haha hahahahahahaha
Aren't you a woman? I thought you were born not only with certification, but with expectation to handle food?
