What do you think of it? Do you think it's a good part of gaming experience? Does it work as an asset, when it comes to button-mashers and Tekken Style games? Or, Are they cheapass? Annoying? Are they just plain useless/pointless?
love hookshotting someone and throwing them off the side in SSBB, EDIT: but other than that its annoying in games other than SSBB (granted i havent played many Tekken/similar fighting games)
It really depends on the game. Like on Soul Calibur some people usually do combos to open up the opponent and spam throws and grappling moves from then on. Similar thing with Tekken, you usually find people using throws and the likes alot. I know I used Hworang's kick grapples a few times in a fight. I think it's a good that they exist in martial arts games or fighting since it's actually part of fighting. But I do have to say the grappling moves can be useless at times.
I think its probably an annoying feature on the surface to non-competitive gamers, but once you get a group of excelent tekken players in a room, who are tournament calibur and know what they are doing, the effectiveness of grappling becomes much more an artform of playing the game, rather than a cheap tactic. SSBM USA/JaP versions have chain throwing as Marsh/Shiek, a lot of people consider it rather unfair.
The only game I find grapples irritating with is Street Fight because the CPU LOVES breaking the game's rules to grapple counter everything, even when you hit them with an obvious window of time between the hit and the grapple.
