Here's New York Post's story. You can pick a news outlet though.

Jon here says exactly what's on my mind about this:

    No ambiguity this time.

    A few points of interest:
    • It was filmed.
    • The law he was breaking was incredibly insignificant: he was selling cigarettes without a license.
    • The choke hold used by the officer was banned by the NYPD in 1993 just to avoid these kinds of situations.
    • A man was killed. Over selling a cigarette without a license.
    • The only person indicted in the scenario is the one who filmed the murder.
    About the last point:

It's hard to get more blatant than that.

I don't think this is a cut and dry race issue. It is a respecting police more than anyone else issue. That jury is like Amaury has been on these cases (for a concrete example). They believe police are always worth defending for the sake of being upholders of the law. I hope they wake up before it hurts them personally, for all our sakes.

Additionally, here's the story of the man who recorded the video of Eric Garner being choked, and what happened when he tried to speak in court.

    Most important parts to me:

I very much agree with this, though I still do believe that race is definitely part of the issue; just not all of it.

It' s about power. Black and powerless just happen to overlap a lot.

"If you can't breathe, you can't talk"

Please, experience what a choke hold feels like, and then you can say shit.

I have been put into choke holds, and I could say "I can't breathe."

Please, shut the hell up with saying that the victim having been white would have made this any better.

Police officers are trained to NOT be choking people.
