Generally no, but only for comfort reasons. I don't see it as a taboo and have worn shoes inside on many occasions.

I don't even do flip flops unless the floor is filthy.

Just like people who wear shoes inside.

The poll/discussion isn't exclusively targetting American culture? Bad thread, bad poll.

I was always taught it was polite to take your shoes off in other people's houses.

Last year when I was at a friend's house with a group of friends, his mom accused us of being weeaboos for taking our shoes off when we came in.

Nope, shoes off at the door. At uni I actually got a reputation for enforcing that rule, I didn't want people getting muddy footprints everywhere, especially not on the carpet. I even told the landlord off because I'd spent an afternoon cleaning the kitchen floor, then the same day after I went out, the landlord came in leaving a big trail of muddy footprints all the way across the newly cleaned floor.

Depends on my mood and stuff. I certainly don't put shoes on until I'm going somewhere, unlike my Dad. But I will frequently keep them on even if I'm done going out for the day, unlike my Mom.

TIL growing up in a farm/mining town means you are a caveman savage that is incapable of being civil in any way.

That being said, I do take my shoes off and the only time I wear them is if I am on the treadmill, but I use different shoes for that (that are very clean, minus the wear from the belt) and carry them downstairs before exercising. But yeah, its really not all that uncommon for certain upbringings/cultures to be a-okay with the whole shoes inside thing. That doesn't automatically mean they just spread mud and dirt all over everything they own, but the work they do on the daily is much "dirtier" than what some are used to.

I always opt for taking my shoes off in other people's houses, but I see no issue with someone not doing so in their own home, especially if brought up in a different culture.
