An executive of Rovio, developer of the mobile game Angry Birds, said the company was worth several billion dollars. Speaking to the magazine Rovio Chief Marketing Officer Peter Vesterbacka said the company valuation of $700 million to $1 billion made by Forbes in July 2011 is way too low. Vesterbacka says his company should easily be worth at least several billion dollars. "We are not selling though -- unless somebody offers enough," Vesterbacka was quoted saying in the interview.
I've played angry birds, millions of times. I can see why it would be worth a couple of billions. I mean the game is so fun.
I've played it, not to a huge extent but from how much I've seen it around I'm not surprised to be honest. It's incredibly popular and a lot of my friends play it. Basically everyone I know who owns either an iPad, iPohone or iPod touch owns this game and adores it, so I'm not that surprised although I didn't expect it to be worth THAT much.
This just proves that gameplay focused quick little games can make just as much, if not a lot more, money as the big cinema amazing AAA games can. I'm not suprised though, everyone is playing this game by now xD It's a fun little addictive game that was marketed very well.
i've tried this game and i actually don't really see why it's so liked. but i realize that it's doing very well, so congratulations to the creators.
It's not just the game itself, they also make allot through product sales I would imagine. Stuffed birds, shirts, purses, bored games, and who knows what else. Also the ability to market it throughout the phone industry raises it's value, anyone with an iPhone usually has it. The game is okay, it can be an effective way to kill 5 minutes. The only real reason I have it is because others nab my iPod and play it.
Wow i never knew Angry Birds would be worth so much and would be so popular, personally i hate it..the music gets to me and the game itself. But $700 million to $1 billion...wowza indeed.
I honestly think Angry Birds is devastatingly overrated. I can see why people enjoy it but it's just a billion dollar, five minute time killer. :l
That's exactly why it's so popular. It's just something you can play really quickly when you're bored, sitting on the bus, or something like that. You don't have to put an investment into the game and sit down and play it for half an hour, you can just pick it up and play it any time you want to. That's what the casual gamers want, just something basic, addictive that isn't very time consuming. It's the perfect for people who are not gamers and that's why it's doing so well.
That is essentially my view on it. I know the game is very popular, so it doesn't surprise me that it is worth that much. What surprises me is that it is that popular. I've got the Kongregate arcade on my android and the games in there are usually of comparable quality. Not always, but usually. And most of the ones I don't like on my phone probably work great on a tablet.
