I used Stich almost everytime I could.

It happened to me once, but I just left him there until my MP finished charging.

I'm a mix of both, but majorly defensive in KH1. In boss battles where both of my partners were dead I'd usually get to a safe spot then heal Donald. After that he'd heal Goofy and he would do that MP gift ability till I had all my MP. Made battles pretty easy.
