in northern ireland we still, just, have academic selection but the government is getting rid of it on the grounds that it creates an unequal system and doesnt give everyone a fair chance. instead they are usuing 'postcode lotteries' ie the closer you are to the school the more chance you have of getting in. but i think that if you are good academically then you should go to a grammer school so that you will achieve your full potential, not be sent to the local secondary school were everything has been slowed down to cater for all the pupils. likewise, if you arent good academically it would be wrong to go to a grammer school just because you are close to it, because you would struggle and possibly fail at the end because of the level the courses are taught at. it would be much better to go to a secondary school where the teaching is at the right/speed. also, i think that streaming classes is a good idea, working with the same principles as the previous paragraph. looking forward to your comments
