Multiple Personality Disorder is not schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is commonly mistaken for MPD. Schizophrenia basically is hearing voices in your mind that seem to come from outside of your mind or are different from your own and they seem very vivid. This is different in that the person 'in charge' is always the person who is normally there but they feel someone may be talking to them etc. Also schizophrenia is a very serious condition as it is actually causing brain damage, so it is not merely some disorder. Traumatic stress with schizophrenia such as child abuse and being treated very poorly, has been known to make some of the world's worst serial killers. A deadly combo. Most schizophrenia patients will not go that far, of course, but that is to show how demented and brain damaged these people can get. Schizophrenia is able to be helped by medications and therapy. Bipolar deals with severe mood changes which can be nasty too but this may help you differentiate more. Dissociative Identity Disorder is what it is called today rather than Multiple Personality Disorder. Hopefully what I said above wasn't too scientific and I will try to also explain this one. Basically a person has more than one personality within. These additional personalities are known as 'alters' for 'alternate' personalities. A personality as defined is not just like another soul or something. It's the brain developing these personalities for reasons I'll explain below. Most of the time 'alters' will come out when someone is stressed and under a certain type of condition where that alter may work out better than the original personality and the original personality just wants far away from it. Sometimes to Often, people with MPD do not recall what events an alternate personality has done and some weird characteristics exhibited by alters has been different behaviors, different reactions to the same circumstances, mannerisms alter, morals or ethics change, sexual orientation can change, vision impairment such as blurriness in some alters, how good someone is at physical activities can be unique and even allergies. Some symptoms: - People with this tend to have on average 10 personalities though there can be 2 or up to 100. - Have amnesia, not recalling people, places or time loss that is unexplainable. - The personality of the person is very different to include behavior, mannerisms and even physical skill. - Many are depressed, sometimes suicidal, and some are into self-mutilation. - Some have vision or hearing hallucinations, seeing or hearing what is not really there. - Some have a lot of trouble in school and conduct as children because at one moment they may be fine and an alter comes out and yeah... not always so great. - In stressful situations especially, alternate personalities are common to step forth. Multiple personalities can show up in a person generally around age 6 though it sometimes can be misdiagnosed as schizophrenia. Usually this can be told more what it is when the child is a teenager because the distinctions are more solid. Why it happens? DID patients often seem to have a history of some sexual or physical abuse to include rape, molestation, bullying, parents beating on them etc and high stress scenarios that are hard to cope with. Most patients with DID are female. There is speculation that people who are abused may develop these personalities by trying to disassociate themselves from the abusive situation and try placing 'someone else' in it instead, which is an alter. There is also some evidence that suggests there is damage to the brain possibly caused by abuse and this paired with the desire to get a way out of a situation may be the cause. For treatment, therapists have to see the patients for some time, years really, and work on hypnosis therapies, as well as trying to get points where they can talk to these alters, and try to help the person get back to normal and whole, unifying the personalities and helping to stop any that may actually be pretty violent. The goal in the end is to help the person unite the personalities so that he/she can be whole again and have a better life. The treatment seems in most cases to be pretty successful though of course recessions can occur if things turn bad in the person's life possibly. As for are disorders bad... In circumstances, yes they can be. However in others, no they aren't. I would bet anymore though that there isn't a person alive that could not be said to have at least 1 Disorder so I certainly would not be judgmental about others with mental conditions unless I feel that individual is a danger in some way. I hope this helped. I went through my psyche book and put it all in better easier to understand terms so be happy!
Yin and Yang is interpreted in odd ways. Some are just stereotypical divisions like sun and moon, as CtR pointed out, or man and woman, dog and cat. etc. What mankind views as opposites aren't always true. I don't buy that everything has an equal opposite though. Human minds make it seem plausible but on further investigation I just have had to say no to it in this regards. The only real way I think of Yin and Yang is as a moving process of symbolism for creation and destruction or chaos and order sort of thing...basically things living and things dying kind of thing, and that even after we are born, we are bound to die and when we die something may be born from it. Also in creation there is usually something destroyed and in destruction there are things created. Other than this concept of Yin and Yang I really don't buy into it since I can't relate to it and don't consider things polar opposites with a bit of effects of each in the other. There's a system yet it is random how it will go but studying it makes sense. In the end it is like a spiritual explanation of Evolution, which I prefer the scientific one more but whatever works does the job.
What makes you think these problems in assorted ways did not exist back then? There is a reason that people only lived to be in their 40s. Life was actually harder. We've made life easier around us so people could live longer but things like cancer, heart disease, liver disease, the black plague, various other flus, small pox, limes disease etc existed for a very long time. Now that people live longer and we certainly have a better communication system throughout the world to hear about all sorts of things, people act like it's all brand new. Viruses have adapted and changed, bacteria have, birds have been carriers of flus forever probably. As we come up with cures for some things we come to realize as our age duration goes up that people get other things because the body breaks down. Cancer is a potential thing in every person whether they like to think of it that way or not. It just needs a trigger. Nature fights against nature. It is a survival desire to live and go on and get your food, water, shelter and for humans, some extra luxuries. Not only have humans harmed things but also helped, which you seem to often forget. Natural disasters are always going to happen. This earth is not friendly, no matter how many people try to say it's Mother Nature and give it a personality. However, it is our home. So we do owe it to ourselves to keep it up and fix the mess with CO2 we've caused. Still, it's going to be the way it is and unless we gain control over seismic activity and weather control, keep counting on tons of natural disasters. We have always had problems. We probably always will. We are a part of nature, even a sentient force of nature. We aren't above it. We are species product of it and we will continue to be a part of it even if people are foolish and wipe themselves and the planet out. The dinosaurs were a part of it and we may go the way they did someday. Who knows? One thing I can say for sure though is that things pertaining to diseases etc certainly were NOT better in the past. Combating these diseases of the past is what has brought us to the present and longer lives, not dying of polio etc.
Well without the biological parent you wouldn't exist. Without the parents that raised you, you'd not get a good upbringing. I'd weigh more that I owe more thanks to the people that helped raise me and give me a quality life than two people who did nothing after 9 months or whatever, but I'd still consider them parents, nonetheless. Just not parents that I'm going to be so concerned with. Blood is as thick as people want it to be.
I'm going to go ahead and close this because it is a rather inappropriate thread asking if people think they will go to heaven or hell and it can result in people getting offended or upset.
I heard that too but am not sure from the source. I do know Nomura made a comment that the characters have a relation but it doesn't mean by blood and he seemed mostly to be talking about their names.
It could be. I've thought about it and think that Xehanort's Heartless/Xemnas were basically the apprentice perhaps and that's why he thought he was Xehanort. Of course it could be that Master Xehanort's spirit somehow took Terra over too, so It's kind of left in the air, but the memory of the form etc is plausible with what we know so far.
Yeah, that's exactly my point. Riku and Axel are such potent individual characters with a lot of personality. It would be a shame to me to have them end up being in the Nobody scenario. Axel also went on to his Somebody so it gives them a chance if they want to bring him back or not. Their personalities also were pretty different. P.S. Thank you. ^_^ Marl, I did see you say that. So you understand though, some of the same old arguments popped up because of whatever reason where people are saying that's true or Reno is Axel's somebody etc. Nothing against you because the thread wasn't intended that way and a lot of people have stuck to the topic. Others however are going the other route which there have been numerous topics about and the answers are pretty common place.
I actually am glad they didn't make Axel Riku's Nobody. It would have been horribly see-through and predictable and also made Axel just well...not as cool. Riku and Axel are both great characters and it was nice to see that just Namine/Kairi and Roxas/Sora had their connections because it would have been pretty boring otherwise. I don't exactly see why people think it would have been a good idea.
FF VI and FF VII were my favorite games for the stories and the things you could do. If they had been made in this time, they'd kick the crap out of FFX and FFXII, in my mind anywhoo. The stories just haven't been as good since superior graphics came around. Kind of sad.
Yeah uber fangirls/fanboys can be annoying, especially when they try arguing with you over what you should like or not and then tell you that you suck if you stand true to your opinion. Mmorpgs are another thing that can be incredibly annoying where the people immediately call anyone new a 'n00b' and use it like it's going out of fashion, along with other colorful words...and Halo 3 ticked me off with how nasty some people can get on there whether they win or lose. Anime to games scenarios are just at times more harsh because people are so protective over their favorite characters nothing can do anything to them etc. I so agree they are irritating. Nothing wrong with being a fan but these people take it to a new level of near worship.
Well usually they follow it with something else... like .. Epic Disaster Epic Pain in the Ass Epic Troublemaker You get the picture. *snerks*
You've survived 5 months at the forums! Just 7 more and you can call it an anniversary. It is amazing how fast time flies.
That's why it's a classic! Now we can all browse through and see CtR as a regular user amongst some others from back when and see how much they've changed. I'll go ahead and leave it open since people are responding to it.
I don't mind necrobumps really in here as long as there's a reason. The last post though has me wondering.
I'm Epic! Best compliment ever!
You can be me? Wow. Well at least I know when I leave someone will take my place and keep the tradition alive!
If she told you that she's probably just letting you down easy if she likes someone else. I would just consider her a good friend and see what happens. You have a strong friendship with her and that may be just how you two have been despite how families sometimes react to boys and girls being best of buds.
Your cat will know you used it as a joke and get you back now. Cats are like that.
Just a little squabble. It's hopefully over now. It would only be -ethical- if you were Gene Simmons and made some boots that way. It depends on the society. Children could learn to walk on their own by mimicry and also learn to talk by the same but at the same time, language skills could be impeded by not taking the time and the child may go through hell in early years of school because of it. So in that case, yeah, I'd say it's neglect. If he's been nice, let him play. If he's been a little turd, boot him off and turn up KH2 really loud and laugh and all to over exaggerate how great the game is and make him really even more jealous. Just watch for flying objects. Not regularly though if I see a weird space I will do that. YIPPIE!! Though it has been fun, all good things must come to an end or else insert something else corny to say there.
