What were there intentions? Forcing their belief system on other people in an over-bearing and downright back-handed way? Telling people that having sex for anything but making babies is wrong? That women, homosexuals and those from other religions are lesser than you? That they are all going to burn in hell for being born the way they are or making a different decision to you?

I'd rather that the "Good Word" wasn't spread anywhere near me or my loved ones thanks. Actually, make that anyone I consider to be a decent person.

The entire point is, children are children. They are still growing and maturing, and are very impressionable. No-one has the right to decide for them that they are to be Christian/Jewish/Muslim etc. Doing that is changing the very course of their life against their will. Without their consent. This is because they are too young to give consent. This is why it is child abuse.

Also, religion is not needed for morals or so-called "values". They are already in-built to humanity, through evolution. Try reading "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins. It is very enlightening, as (to be honest) I had thought that the only things religion was good for were consoling and teaching people right and wrong etc. He showed me how religion really isn't needed, and in fact can do the opposite. A quote he used went something like "A bad man can be good on his own, but it takes religion to make a good man do bad things".

What parents (well, good parents anyway) can do is teach their children how not what to think. Teaching them to take in what everyone says and then, based on what they know and feel, make a decision. This can be done when they are old enough and mature enough to make these decisions.

However, I can see from what you are saying that your church is a mild one. But don't be complacent, both mild and moderate religious environments are breeding grounds for extremism (like was seen in the video).

    Religion

And I applaud you for that, far too many (most of the christians I know) are Sunday Christians. Thinking that going to church on a sunday makes them good people xD

I myself am a staunch Atheist, verging on militant atheism =3

I thought the majority of American Christians considered themselves to be Evangelical Christians. Evangelical meaning spreading the word of God to all non-believers.

I take that as a invasion of my rights as an individual who has the right to make choices. I can make my own damn mind up about what belief system to choose or not choose thank you very much.

Also, anyone who cannot be deemed to choose right from wrong cannot be expected to make decisions about their own religious beliefs. In America the age is 8. This means that children under the age of 8 in America should not be taken to church, or be told anything about religion. They are too young to make up their own mind, and far too susceptible to the brain-washing from their parents and other people in positions of authority. This is how it is child abuse.

Christianity works through the use of fear. Children with Christian parents (not Christian children, as there is no such thing) are brought up "with the fear of the lord". They are taught that if they are bad they will go to hell, with fire, brimstone, terror, pain and suffering for all eternity. If that isn't fear tactics I don't know what is then.

Bringing up a child as true Christian is technically child abuse in itself, nevermind once they are given over to the church.

EDIT: Now, after watching the video, I have lost what little respect I had for Christianity. It is a fake, harsh, cruel, hypocritical farce that is used a crutch for those too weak to live their own lives.

The basis of the video was that disbelief or believe in another religion itself is a sin punishable by hell. Again, christianity returns to its core purpose of dividing humanity and spreading fear and hatred amongst the masses. How anyone could be part of such an unjust and certainly not "holy" institution I do not know.

I remember when I first posted too. Looking back through those first tentative posts in the Count to a Million thread (where I met you and several other of my now friends) I cringe from my noobness xD

I also know that I've been neglecting the site more, with my social life increasing, school, work, driving etc. Life kinda took over xD

And it's good to be sappy and nostalgic CtR =]

There would be no possible way of telling what would happen if you changed even one thing (see Sliding Doors for an example). So no I wouldn't. Who knows, the world wars might actually have been a good thing in some respects in terms of the development of the human race =/

Also the fact that Einstein proved time travel to be impossible, although it is feasibly possible to send messages through time, both forwards and backwards =]

If something was changed, it would create an alternate reality with the change in place. However, the original "timeline" would still survive and continue on as normal.

That is rather sad. I think she needs to be sent to a secure mental hospital rather than prison. Help rather than incarceration.

There was a similar case in England involving child abuse, but it wasn't due to mental illness >_> A woman married a muslim man and converted. She had 3 or 4 children who disappeared. They hadn't been to school for 2 months. Then (apparantly) neighbours saw the children chase birds away from a birdtable just so they could eat the crumbs.

One of the children had starved to death and the rest had to be taken into care. It seems the new husband didn't want the children >_>

I believe it is complete unfair and, well, impossible to compare generations and pass judgements on them. We live in completely different times to the previous generations and as a result our society and its structure will be different.

Back in post-war times people may have been less selfish, healthier and more polite/friendly. They had just come out of a war, they had to be these things as they didn't really have a choice. Fighting amongst themselves would do nothing for the war effort. Also, they were healthy because they didn't have TV or computers. All they had was playing sports and going outside. They also had their food rationed so they couldn't overeat.

This argument is like all "What if.........?" questions, they are impossible to work because the situations are completely different.

I disagree, any problems I've had are intermittant and as far as I've seen DBE's are only come and go. If it was due to the size of the forum they would be happening a lot more frequently.

I agree with CtR on this one, this site has a rich and vivid history that you can't just delete. Especially a years worth of it. Perhaps if there was a copy of the threads somewhere for people to see, if they are to be deleted that is.

It would be like throwing out a photo album to make room for another one, a whole years worth of memories and experiences wiped out >_<

Time is an oddity. It is a dimension, but not a spatial one. We can only move forward with time, not backwards. As for time circles, there have been many theories.

Stephen Hawking at one point thought that if the universe started to contract then time would run in reverse back to the Big Bang and then perhaps turn around again and run forwards again. However he has dropped this as it doesnt fit in with other theories (mainly the 3 arrows of time [Psychological, entropical and cosmological] ).
There is also the theory that the universe (and its many dimensions) are infinite but with finite area. Take the earth for example, we all know that the earth only has so much land which is pretty much fixed. But if you walked around the earth you wont fall off. Hence finite area, but infinite at the same time. So perhaps time is like that, existing forever but with there only being so "much" of it.
