Do tell Kitty, do tell ; )
Ooooo, that sounds like an invitation ;D
LIEZ D: *squishez* <333
LOL Now that was a dangerous thing to call CtR =] *huggles for all*
I speak English as my native or mother tongue (which is in no way to say that I am fluent lol), I took French and German to GCSE level and A*s in both. I could read it a bit but doubt I could hold a conversation past "Hello, how are you?". I know a few words in other random languages but nothing substantial.
And certainly not twice. With the fiddling of the voting process in Florida he guaranteed an illegitimate second term. Then when many people went to Senate to have him removed, needing only one signature from any Senator (either side) to have an investigation started they were ignored. Nice and corrupt =] The American Constitution has been dying a long slow death much added by the greed's and ambitions of wealthy and powerful men.
.sdrawkcab tn'saw tahT (: saw sihT
A dangerous pastime indeed, have you tried battling with a large monstrous beast which is actually a cursed prince on top of a castle in the rain?
Lulz .
"One Nation Under God" was never an original part of the pledge. In fact, the founding fathers weren't even devout Christians. They were secularists, they believed that the church and state should remain completely separate (and look how long that lasted). Also, the reason I dislike the Republicans is because they are conservative. They are archaic, old-fashioned and obsolete. They should have been left along a long time ago when the world moved on but their supporters were too stubborn and afraid of change to support anyone else. My feelings have nothing to do with gay marriage or anything of the sort. There is also the fact that when the conservative party in the UK last came to power the economy was decimated and thousands of people forced into work (not to mention the irreparable damage to the coal industry, trapping large reserves of coal underground which now have to be excavated at a very high cost). As for the war in Iraq, there were no WMDs. We know that. The main reason for entering the war in the first place was a lie. Also, now instead of a dictator ruling with an iron fist at detriment to his own people but managing to keep the militias under control has been replaced by a weak and (as Blademaster Mai'kel rightly said) dysfunctional so-called democracy were many people don't vote either from loyalty to the militias or from fear. Never is preferable. The USA (and the UK) needed to plan a lot more before entering into such a conflict. The entire US governmental system is in dire need of an overhaul. At the moment, all it has is my utter contempt. It is flawed (more so than most) and corrupt. I am not saying that other countries don't have terrible or even worse systems (lol the UK system certainly ain't perfect) but considering the US is a superpower you think things might have been a bit better. As for all of these things being "Un-American", you do remember your history lessons? You even said yourself that your great-grandfather was Italian. There is no such thing as true American (except of course for the native Americans of course lol). America is a nation of migrants, pretty much every citizen is a migrant. All children of the rest of the world. I don't understand why people are so afraid of change. Sure it can be painful and even destructive, but changes are often the only way forward.
I think that they aren't being lazy at all. I think that they know they can just look at views, but they are using this as an opportunity to get this information for future use. They may never use it, but now they have it at their disposal (not that it will remain valid for very long).
Just goes to show how corrupt the system is. You guys really do need to pull your act together =/ Not that it's much better over here xD The UK is one of the most surveillanced countries in the world, with an extreme number of CCTV cameras (there was a ratio between cameras and people but I can't remember >_>)
America was only the land of opportunity back before it became the USA. After that and to this day the only opportunities that present themselves are to those who have money, which is few people. As for this Bill, it just goes to show how little this Constitution is respected. It will also leave all other amendments open to being targeted. It seems that the Bush administration is using the so-called "War on (/of) Terror" to strip even more personal freedoms away (not that there were many to begin with) and increase the hold on the populace. There really aren't enough bloodless coups anymore >_>
It's called capitalism people. These news companies are out to make money, they do this by getting high ratings. They do that by having sensational news, true or otherwise. It is exactly the same with newspapers, the tabloids are notorious for bending the truth to make a story sound more interesting and if they are caught out they just blame an unnameable unreliable source. The only news I really trust is the BBC. It isn't out to make a profit (being funded by TV licence money) and I don't think I have ever really seen it affected by politic tampering. Although, even if the American government brought out a funded news organisation I wouldn't trust it. It is practically a commercial organisation in its own right xD Your best bet is to read around, if the story is the same (or at least, very similar) then it is probably true. Even then you should take it with a pinch of salt.
This occurs with many things in cultures. Many across the world have similarities that developed long before they encountered each other. It's likely to be the same if we met an alien race. There are certain things (like mathematics and chemistry) which are universal and come naturally to any sufficiently enough race. For these philosophical elements, they chose what they saw around them. Water, air (trickier, as it can't be seen, but the effects of it were plain enough), earth and fire. They differed in priority to different peoples depending on location and circumstance (coastal and inland, desert and rain forest), but they were still all there. It is also believed that because the condition for sentient life (or for what we would considered sufficiently sentient to give this title) are so narrow, that any alien life out there will be pretty similar to us. Variations in diet, climate and gravity etc will cause minor differences but the overall "template" will be the same. Of course, this can't be proved until we meet other races lol And it is definitely possible that there are other circumstances so outlandish that they haven't even been considered viable for sentient life.
Also the fact that not every large company is an evil organisation bent on world domination. People watch too many films and automatically assume the worst.
The problem is, most people who are brought up religious are brought up that they are right, everyone else is wrong and nothing will change their minds. If this mindset can be changed then I can see this class as being a great success and really healing the divides between and even within the major religions. Unfortunately (apart from the religion Vex123 stated), a lot of religions teach or rather breed close-mindedness and almost xenophobia. Also, if theist tell me that I'm going to go to hell then I am allowed to point out the obvious flaws in their behaviour and ideals. And yes, I know Ghandi's teaching of "An eye for an eye and the world goes blind". But I'm just sick of it >_> Also, I don't have an "enemy" religion. I just dislike seeing how crippling religion has been to humanity. And it hardly promotes genocide >:
I think that if everyone when at school was able to learn about all of the major religions there would be a lot more atheists in the world. An example being Richard Dawkins, he was brought as Anglican and was a regular church attender. Then he reached high school and discovered that there were many more religions in the world besides his own. He is now a leading and outspoken atheist. Really, religious parents and leaders should not be worried about children learning about other religions. If their belief and "faith" (LOL) is strong enough, there is nothing to fear. Unfortunately, most people would drop their faith in an instant =] (well, it would be a win for logic and sense >_>) I would love to learn about other religions in detail. A lot of them offer great pieces of literature which can appreciated much better without the religious side. There is also the needing to know your enemy to defeat it ;)
To put it simply, definitions of the elements of nature using things like fire, earth, water, and air is the philosophical method. This being much removed from the scientific method.
There many people across America who seem to have the same problem, most of them being senators >_> Is that not what all religious leaders do? A science teacher should never mention religion in class. Ever. Science class is for science, religion saved for R.E. (Religious Education). If he doesn't like it, he can stop teaching science. Also, there should not be any religious material in the room, as this is contradictory to the purpose of the class. As for the burning crosses into the students arms, I'm not surprised. He is a religious evangelical nut. They shouldn't be allowed near children, never mind teaching science.
