As Repliku said there isn't really a place for swear words in the classroom. All they would do is cause disruption so why allow them? But in the corridors I don't see why non-excessive swearing couldn't be allowed (I know people who swear nearly every other word and there is really no need). What I can't stand is swear words being censored in songs, but that is a different debate entirely >_>
Unless of course it was your school (as mine has forced me to several times) or your work then you would have to do what they say. If it's just the opinions of others then you can take them on board and consider them but there is nothing to say that you have to follow through on any of them.

I understand where you are coming from. What irks me is when people get negative bias against them because of the people's perceptions of what they might be like. For example, people automatically assume that if a singer is good looking they aren't as good. This isn't always the case, and it should never be assumed as such.
