I'd agree with others that the middle-course is usually best. A little stress to do things right is not a bad thing. It can be a motivator. No stress at all can lead to writing poorly and not being as thorough as you should be, or you may miss out on trick questions because you are not paying as much attention as you would if you knew you had to take the test seriously.

Too much stress, for me anyway, tends to happen only if I've not studied at all for something and I come to realize just how big of a mistake that was. I bombed some of those because I was so anxious.. but also because I'd forgotten stuff or never knew it to begin with. Even if I didn't do homework in high school all the time, I did learn a strategy for tests that worked well for me. I would read the material of the books or get other more interesting books on the subject so I then was able to excel on my finals, even if some classes I was in were otherwise Cs or the occasional Ds. In college, I've found out this strategy is even more effective so it's something to pass on to others that might help, who don't do so good in the classes otherwise and feel the finals are their only way to pass.

That is so true. I know some of the people in my classes who are rather flabby, overweight, and have beer bellies that do very well at fighting and are pretty strong. Appearance does not really say how good a fighter someone is.

Novocaine can take a few hours to wear off and you might have to not go to the soccer practice and such and let the drug wear off. It's a normal thing.

As a person that has occasionally had to be kind of a 'vigilante' now and then, because the law wasn't helping people who needed it, I can say that -some- vigilantism is necessary. This does not mean that I think people should run around taking the law into their own hands if the law will actually work.

    Some examples:
A handicapped girl was getting rough-housed on in school and being poked and prodded with her quad-canes that she needs to walk with by 3 guys. I went over and took them from the 2 boys who had them and hit them with them and gave them back to the girl so she could get on her way. No one else was doing a thing about it, so I did.

A girl was stuck on the school roof, and yeah, she shouldn't have been there but climbed up to get her ball. Some people were making fun of her and she was crying so I made them get lost. I then climbed up and helped her down and some jackass called the cops on me for it but the cops let me go saying it was fine.

A boy twice this girl's age who was in my classes decided to beat on the girl and so I got him off her and we had a scrap. No one else did anything and just stood around watching not sure what to do or cheering it on. No one ratted on me for it either and some people even thanked me.

A group of girls were picking on another girl for having scars and such and I went over and helped her out and let her hang out with me a while and hooked her up with better 'friends' after I had told the girls to back off of her and that no one liked them anyway. Good fun as the girls became then rather unpopular as none of the guys liked them anymore for being snooty brats.

A woman in the projects had 5 kids and the ex-husband was terrorizing her to get her to take him back and such. He went so far, one night while me and a couple friends were hanging out with her, to start batting in her window and hit her car too. I went out and took the bat from him and told him if he's around again, I'd beat his face in. She already had an order of protection and had called the cops numerous times but they did nothing to the guy. After that and a couple more incidences where she called me and my friends, he stopped and we talked things out and he ended up deciding to leave her alone and move on and even said he had some odd respect for me though I was an *******. xD

In the end, sometimes the law cannot act or will not to do the right things because either the authority figures are not told or because they discriminate against class, gender, race or religion. The law is not perfect. I feel that as a human being, if I just walk by something that is very wrong, I am not being a decent person. I will of course call the authorities such as a teacher or the cops if I feel I am able to and that something can be done, but there are times I feel a citizen acting in the defense of others is proper and the right thing to do. Some of the examples above aren't what some people might call 'vigilantism' and I could have used other examples as well, but the point I am trying to make here is that there is a fine line between a person 'taking the law into their own hands' as a vigilante versus someone doing an act because it is the humane thing to do. If a person is being a vigilante to deal out 'revenge' for those wronged, then the person is not doing 'justice' in my mind. I.e. the guy who has to defend a girl's honor because someone is making fun of her and gets into a huge fight over it.. that's more out of revenge than just getting the others to back off the girl and helping -her- instead. There's a difference between being cocky, brazen and doing something to be 'tough' versus having the well being of the victim on the mind.

    Hope that makes sense.

With anyone, I tend to give them respect as just being people at first. I treat animals with respect heh. I roll with life and consider that everyone at first merits decency. However, if I notice the person is just not respectful to anyone and doesn't care about anything but him/herself, harms others at their leisure etc, I will have no respect for them, regardless of if they were a friend, are a family member, or mentor. I can respect anyone regardless of appearance or social status, and differing opinions etc. A good person is a good person.

If a person is supposed to be my 'friend' and not just an acquaintance, that person will have had to have done something to show that we get along on a level that I consider him or her to be a decent person, whether are ideals all add up or not. Therefore, of course I'd give that person respect because I like the person.

If a person is just an acquaintance who I have just met, I will give the person respect because I cannot pre-judge the individual, unless as I said before, the person is caught doing something to others that I feel is just wrong. Anyone can be my friend pretty much and move from being an acquaintance with relative ease. I prefer to be amiable most of the time, though sometimes my sarcasm and wit kill things. xD

If a person is a family member, of course I feel a bond to the person, but I do not feel that just because he or she is blood, that I should judge them as having a reason to have more of a leeway. If I am treated with disrespect or they treat others very poorly, I am going to lose respect for them and they will know it straight out, just as I will tell anyone else. Of course, with family, you have to deal with them more so they have more opportunities to change in my eyes than an acquaintance might since I can let them move on whereas with family, you're kind of stuck with them. As I was often abused growing up by my mother until I decided she isn't hitting me anymore and her words don't hurt at all, I do not feel she merits 'respect' and that I could honestly depend on her to do much. I know she has anxiety and such and I leave her alone as I do with others that irritate me, but she knows straight out that I would never let her be alone with my kids alone, should I have them because of how she is. I don't hate her or anyone but it's the point that I feel justified in not 'respecting' her other than as a human being.

Mentors or guardians such as teachers, police, etc that have been genuine and such, taught me something, whether they are gruff or not, I have had respect for. I've had more respect at times for those who are rough but to the point when I have done something bad or good and they tell me so. Those who just tend to have their 'favorites' and treat others like they don't matter, or who don't get what they teach etc, I tend to have less respect for. If the person just seems to be a bad egg and fake, I don't care to respect them. I may still learn from the person, but that is all I can give the person credit for. I can respect their occupations they have chosen, but if the person simply is a bad teacher or bad cop etc, I judge them off the type of person they are, not the occupation, and really wish they'd leave the occupation as they corrupt it for those who work so hard to dispel the notions of bad cops and teachers etc.

I make it a habit in life to try to be open-minded and to forgive transgressions done to me or others, but I never forget things. If someone screws me over, I can let it go, but I hate to be the one who lets himself fall for the same crap twice from the same individual. If the person shows that kind of behavior, they pretty much know that I will go off and not associate with them for a while above what I have to. I can be amazingly able to overlook things after having voiced them if I feel the need and the person seems willing to change. I can also just let people live on without me pestering or badgering or bullying them if they are someone I just don't like as I feel 'hating' the person is an utter waste of my time and sometimes that is exactly what these sorts of people want. So, in the end, whether I respect people for 'who' they are, unless they are horrible people out to make other people's lives miserable, I can ignore them and let them live on their lives and just steer clear of them, hoping someday they change or well, I won't have to see them anymore.

    P.S.
Guys, when certain members decide to say something stupid to get a rise out of you, ignore them. Their posts will be deleted. Just send me or a mod from the area, etc a PM and we will delete it if we don't catch it before you do. Don't feed the trolls. The more attention you give, the more they do it. If you ignore them and keep on topic, they will be dealt with.

An essay for What? But do you truly deserve an essay? Did you do your homework? Feed the dog? Water the horse? Drain the lizard? I can assume you did one of those things today so I guess I will give you a short essay, which around here is a novel.

There were a group of people from a northern European army, at war in a jungle. This squad had a local native show up who was to inform them of what to do should they run into the local wildlife there.

The captain looked at his squad in seriousness. "All right, me troops! Yer gonna be goin' out there and we are the last hope ta gettin' the enemy flushed out. Howe'er, there have been numerous people dyin' by speckled snakes. They be very poisonous! So I got this fella here who's gonna tell ye how to deal with em."

The native man stepped forward and dropped a speckled snake on the ground and spoke. "If you be seein' a speckled snake, first thing you be wantin' ta do is grab it by dah tail. Then you be workin' yer way up da body till you get to the neck. Then jus' snap its neck. Easy huh?" The native man did the deed and with ease snapped the snake's neck so it was dead. "It's jus' a little snake but one of da most poisonous. Be wary!"

The captain thanked the man and the troops felt invigorated and prepared to take on the wild. And soon they were sent out. 3 days later, the troop met back up after a successful mission. There were 3 soldiers there who were injured enough to be considered up for rewards. One guy had a broken arm and leg. The second guy had broken ribs and a broken ankle. The third guy however, was literally in traction, looking a lot like a mummy.

The captain went to the first man and said "Explain yer bravery soldier so that all may know!"

The man nodded. "Well sir, I was trapsin' through the jungle wit' me buddies and I noticed the trail, went and followed the signs o' the enemies and we ambushed 'em, takin' em right out! I got shot twice but we done it!" The captain and soldiers clapped and the man was rewarded with a nice badge.

The captain went to the second man with the broken ribs and ankle. "So what'did you do out dere, soldier?"

"Well sir" he said with a raspy voice. "I was trapsin through the jungle wit' me buddies an' we got into a fire fight with the enemies. I wen' to rescued the lieutenant by takin' a couple shots fer 'em an' den fell over a ledge. But I lived." The captain and troops clapped, but before he was done, he added "An' ya know, I saws one o' dem speckled snakes, so I did right what'cha told me an' it worked!" The troops were now joyous and the man was given his reward.

The captain walked over to the third man in traction, mummified and definitely not able to hold himself up. He was a real mess. "My god, man! What happened to ye?"

"Well sir" he voiced nervously. "I was trapsin' through the jungle with me troop, an we were hot on the trail of a group of the enemy. So we planned an ambush. I got to hidin' by this tree and brush and surely, there was the enemy down at a camp. I got them in my lineup when I noticed one of dem dere speckled snakes. So, I remembered what was said." He took a deep breath now. "So I got it at the tip of the tail, an' inched mah way up its back, and then snapped...
...and then that's when I found out I had my thumb up the tiger's ass."
