I love marker art.... Just has this light yet clear feel to it, no wonder most manga artists use them for covers and such.. <3 As a fellow newb with markers (ProMarkers in my case, haven't ever seen PrismaColours in my life), I can't really share that many tips with you. You would obviously know to always start with the lightest colour, and that it can be dangerous to mix over a sharp one. I think there's tutorials on DA concerning the type of markers you have and the use for them, like how to avoid them bleeding on the paper should you need one. (I know for sure Keysha-chan made one about that) I am delighted to see that you haven't fallen into the trap by covering the whole paper with colours - when you keep the white it become much more open, and I get the impression that Roxas is in some sort of a dream world, maybe in his conscience. <3 I dig the pointilism of the pants, shows that it's another type of fabric, just as it should be. Sorry for not having actual crits for you, I am just in awe over your drawing! When fanart has more freedom in it, it just becomes awesome eyecandy. :3 If you make more marker art, SHOW US!! YOU MUST!!!! :D
Erm.. I think it is possible to work with layers on Gimp - if you make the picture a layer, you can use a tool that will select the girl - like the lasso tool or marquee tool, I dunno. When it is marked you will see moving lines. (I think) Copy that, and paste to a new layer. (in the end it should be the top layer, set on multible if possible) You can move the copy around with a move tool. Then I'd go back to the original layer, remove the marquee and clone away the girl there so that it's only paper again. Merge in the end and it's all one layer again. *I don't have Gimp, i have no idea - I asume it has these functions or similliar*

Is this like something temporarly that will be put down after the assignment is complete? (if it stays for a while, you'll wanna be careful not to break any copyright stuff concerning images, materials etc) You said you're working with skulls - if you know of different varieties of skulls then that could be a theme - or dark .... stuff overall, maybe put some info about various objects and their meaning? I can't really tell for sure, is it only a front page you're supposed to make or links to other pages of the site as well? Thinking of a theme was surprisingly hard for me too, so sorry if I wasn't of any help.
Totally dig the style of the picture, that artist is frikkin talented - details everywhere man, makes you want to truely study everything about it. :D I don't really like to give grades, but this one deserves somewhere between 5-6 out of 6. (an A) I made mine in 5 minutes cause I'm lame like that.
Since you know it worries your family/friends, try harder. It's probably just a mood you're going through, but you can never be too careful - none of us are experts. :x
