So after being here for a while, I've seen loads of posts suggesting that the artist look up on some tutorials, but not actually linking to them. Omg, I started out with PSP... version 7 at least, not sure if yours is older or not. In that case, you should use various tools to make your character look more real: If you want a comic style try to draw the lineart with ink instead of having a multiply effect thing going on - as far as I can see your lineart is a mix of both black lineart and skin tone, I'd stick to one if I were you. (I don't know if you scanned this beforehand or drew it in the computer) When you add shadows and highlights, try softening the edges with the eraser tool set at an extremly low opacity. Heh yeah it's easy to end up experimenting with backgrounds a lot... But since I now know what program you use, I think you should be able to make it less attention seeking. Make it show less, or see how it is without one at all. Sometimes simplicity is the best solution.
