I don't really think it's that bad. December/Christmas is my favorite time of the year. When I first noticed it, I was kind of annoyed by it. But then someone pointed out part of the reason we (excluding corporations and such) do it is to draw 'Christmas-time' out for longer than the month, because once it's gone, it's gone for a year.

I'm going to bump this for a decision, too. I like the changing the shortcuts idea if not the getting rid of them all together. Thanks to Mixt, I've been using the 'noparse' solution, but it's still tedious...and annoying when newer members don't know how to do that.
