Hey guys. It's 4:42am right now, I am a tad delirious, so I'm going to keep this brief, but I'd love to get you guys involved in the Karaoke Night stuff, whether you're singing or not! As some of you listening last night could hear, I did a really plain introduction for the beginning of the night. It was something like, "Hey guys, Jayn here! You're listening to KHV Chorus' Karaoke Night! Hope you enjoy! YEAH!" I would like something simple like that. I wasn't very creative with the outro ("Well...that's it. hope you had fun"), so try to be better than me, yeah? c: All I'd like for anyone interested to do is record up to TWO introductions and TWO outros (if they want), and send it to chorus@kh-vids.net. You don't have to worry about any effects or music. Simply introduce yourself and KN, and that's that! Try to be enthusiastic about it and get creative, if you'd like! Just try and keep it short. You CANNOT pick a new song if you already have one, UNTIL the day is up. (You may change your song to something else on October 1st). However, if you currently do not have a song, you can pick from whatever is there.
Update: I've been getting a lot of lines not following the rules. I am also receiving a huge amount of LATE or LAST MINUTE lines. Because I am now legitimately concerned about my health and absolutely refuse to put up with another year of that behavior, I am going to have to be a lot stricter about things for this next year. If it is your first time in KHVC, I will be more lax with you and give you more leeway. I will direct you to the rules /once/. Please read them all of the way through and ask if you have any questions. For clarification, I would like to note that this does not apply to MOST of you. However, if you send me lines I have told you were done improperly, or you are a continuous last minute or completely late line-giver, this does apply to you. First of all, last minute lines should only be handed in last minute IF you have already told me they will be given in late IN ADDITION TO having a VALID reason other than procrastinating. Please DO NOT sign up for KHV Chorus or any of the extras if you know you were be a constant offender of this. It is one thing when 2-3 members trickle in last minute, but when half of the singers have not spoken to me or turned anything in, it's awful. For those of you who give your lines in AFTER the deadline (or not at all after signing up), I will now be a lot stricter on probation. You be placed on it and unable to participate in Karaoke Night, Duet Roulette, or the main KHV Chorus for 30 days. If you are placed on it three times, you will no longer be allowed to participate. This punishment applies to those of you who CONSTANTLY and HABITUALLY hand in your lines the last day possible. It is simple. Record as soon as you can, or don't sign up. I've been working on said singing competition since those were posted, lawwl, so needless to say I like the idea of it. I talked to Misty and some other staff about it as well, who have supported it and agreed that it could work.My hesitation with such a competition is kind of the same thing (and why it's taken me so long to get it right) that I had said back then. There are very few singers on KHV who are actually confident in their singing. With KHVC there's a lot of interest because it doesn't matter. With a competition, it's a bit different because you're actually ...Well, trying to be good, which then limits us to those singers who feel like they are good enough to actually compete and not have their souls crushes or confidence destroyed. Then you limit that to the amount of singers who are actually known to be 'good singers', which gives you like ... a few left. What I mean by known are the people who other members swoon over and view as an actual 'singer', not the members who ARE good singers. Which makes polls and voting bias (similar to the KHV Awards), which would result in -- since there's not a good number of confident singers to begin with -- a circle competition of either the same person winning over and over or one or two people winning over and over. Then, another thing is that there's a difference in microphone qualities and mixing capabilities. If you have an okay-singer with great, clear microphone quality and a fabulous singer with muffled, hissing, static-y singing then the okay-singer is most likely to win.Which brings us back around to mixing capabilities. If you have someone really great at mixing and making it sound professional and put together, they're more likely to win or move ahead in comparison to someone who doesn't know how to mix very well and is off sync and the music isn't blending and it 'sounds' awful, no matter how good them are.WHICH brings up another something. You could solve half of that problem by having one person mix all of them, like what I do for KHVC, DR, and KN. But that's a lot of work to do all by yourself, and then you could require them to do it themselves, but that cuts down the anticipated participants by like half. Soo - the main thing with a competition like this, I think, is trying to figure out how to make it fair, easily accessible, and versatile. Not so much about being /the best/ (or the most popular via poll) but something else that encourages challenge along with unity and fairness. These aren't reasons not to do it, but rather how to improve the idea before initiating something like it. Which is why I've done five months of planning. All-in-all I believe a competition like this would go over well enough and is a good idea, girly.
