"Fine," Edward muttered, yawning. "But promise me you'll tell me later... and," he lowered his voice to such a low whisper that he had to put his lips to her ear for her to hear him, "if you don't want anyone else to hear, you can always tell me with your thoughts."
Even though Edward was still asleep, he still heard her thought. "What girl, Hannah?" he asked quietly.
"Is everything alright?" Edward asked, unable to help himself from asking. He could tell from the troubled vibes in her mind that something had happened.
"That's fine," Edward muttered, resting his cheek on the back of her head and putting an arm around her waist. "My eyes don't want to stay open, though... sorry if I drift off..."
"Just come over here and lay down," Edward whispered back, beckoning her over. "No talking till morning if you want." ^ ^ ^ "Im a HAAAPPY man!"
She better be back soon, thought Edward as he lay in the dark. I will go out and find her if it gets too late... maybe I worry too much...
"Don't stay out too late," Edward whispered against Hannah's ear before he went around her to sit on his bed again.
Edward flinched when Van Helsing mentioned the werewolf family, and hoped Hannah couldn't tell. By hell he'll finish my little sister, he thought. I don't know why I care, but I can't see him do it again!
Edward followed Hannah, standing behind her.
Edward sat up and sighed. "Fine," he grumbled, and walked to the door. Jinx and Hannah were still in the hallway. "Sorry," he began, not meeting Hannah's eyes. "Van Helsing wants you to meet Carl before you... you both go out."
"Sounds fine," Edward replied, going to sit on his bed and holding his arm. "I need to rest..."
"She passed out and the local butcher's son brought her home," Edward explained, knowing this must sound like the oddest thing in the world. "I don't know what's wrong with her, but Jinx can help. Those people, though... they were very... wierd. They didn't want me to see her at first, but..." he sighed. "Anyway, all is fine now. What's the plan as far as leaving here is concerned?"
"No," Edward began, giving Carl's confused look a polite smile. "I... she's outside. She wants to talk to you, Jinx, alone... if that's alright with you."
"Sure," Edward replied as they reached the door to the room. "And, Hannah," he added, turning to look at her. "Just be careful, okay? And tell me about what happened later if you can. I have a feeling we will leave tomorrow." As he opened the door, Edward leaned down and kissed Hannah lightly on the cheek before hurrying inside and shutting the door shut behind him.
"I don't know," Edward replied as they climbed the stairs to the room. He lowered his voice slightly now. "He must know something about Dracula that can help us... or he just might be smart and good to have around. Look, Van Helsing saw it fit to trust all of us to be introduced to Carl... if he trusts us to not rip out the friar's throat if he makes us mad... well, then, I think he deserves our trust as well."
"Find something," Edward suggested. "You can live off animals, you know," he added. "It may not be the most pleasant thing in the world, but it's better than starving." They reached the inn now. "Van Helsing has a new friend," Edward remembered. "He's a friar from the church, and it's a bit odd that he has to come with us, but I think we can trust him."
"I know," Edward sighed. "He's just like that... you can't blame him, though; this job is all he can remember in his life. I... I pity him in a way. Look, later if you want to leave, go, but make sure you take Jinx with you. And I'll... I'll wait up for you to make sure you get back." OOC: bedtime... ZZZzzzzz.... :)
"What are you going to do, then, Hannah?" Edward asked as they neared the inn. "Starve?"
Edward sighed once more. Lying doesn't help... and I keep speaking about what she thinks without stopping myself, so... "Yes," Edward replied. "But how and why and when I became able to do so in my life story is not a discussion for right now. We need to get some rest and food... can you... go out with Jinx later when you feel stronger?"
