You can use Enemy cards like Oogie Boogie card to recover hp. I played the game twice but I lose several times too. :p I used sleight like, what is it called again, the sleight when Sora throw the keyblade and it came back, it has many type, like a thunder, ice, fire type. I forgot the name of this sleights :P
