    We're not following Smogon's rules completely, but using theirs as a basis for ours and making our own to keep the tournament more casual and open to more people. Unless people decided to follow OU rules. I haven't really looked yet.

    No it's cool I'm just saying we don't need to flood the group with topics that have already more or less been decided on.

    You don't need to keep making poll threads for specific questions. That's what the original thread is for, to discuss things. We already came to the consensus that evasion/accuracy moves aren't allowed before the group was even made. This has already been decided on.

    I think it's better to ban such moves altogether, to prevent the need to follow up and make sure this rule was followed.

    Like what? When you say 'impossible to get' I think of event Pokemon, which have been banned under our rules. just curious what you mean

    @Hayabusa @Karuta Realistically, to an informed trainer, a genned legal Pokemon with perfect IV's and EV's that is an exact copy of a trained one (i. e. with legal moves and abilities) is no different from a trained one in numbers alone, but in a 3ds tournament there will be people who don't IV/EV, meaning that the player will feel like they're at a disadvantage. I don't have a problem with genned Pokemon in a 3ds tournament, but for the sake of keeping an element of fairness and keeping players who don't IV/EV happy, it would be best to not allow genned Pokemon in the 3ds tournament and keep them in the simulator tournament. And if we're having both anyway, there's no reason to allow genned pokemon in the 3ds tournament because it would be no different from the simulator tournament. gotta keep things interesting

    And there's no reason you couldn't IV/EV train a team, Karuta. It's not like the tournament is tomorrow. You have time.

    This is kinda why I said we should establish how competitive this is. I think it's totally fair to have IV bred and EV trained pmon play against ones that weren't, but every player needs to be aware of this. I've never played in a competitive scene or played in a tournament that followed Smogon's regulations, but this is KHV, this thread exists to create our own regulations, we don't need to follow Smogon because we're following our own rules. Sure, we can use Smogon's regs as a basis, but we don't have to follow them to a t.

    @burnitup check the OP for questions on Smogon.

    that's what I'm saying

    I'm still uncomfortable with having two tournaments, but for now we should plan to have both. We may find that there's not enough people to have both or that some other problem arises, but for now it seems to be the best thing to do.

    That would be impossible to regulate in-game. The only way we could do it would be to review the match after it's over, which could lead to needing rematches and regressing in the tournament. Accidents can happen and in the heat of a game you could forget that you've exceeded the maximum uses.

    @Hayabusa @Karuta
    We could just not have genned Pokemon in the game tournament. That would solve this. I mean I know we couldn't prevent it but I bet most people who want to play on the DS also want to play with their legit Pokemon.

    That's true. But do we even have enough people to have more than one tournament? It seems like dividing up the players between two tournaments would make this less fun, and I'm not even sure if enough people would want to play on a simulator. I mean I guess people could compete in both but still.

    @Princess @Karuta @Hayabusa
    Is there any reason we couldn't do both? Showdown would be easier for coordinating a tournament, but I'm sure many people (myself included) would like to play on DS. When matches are scheduled both players could decide what format they're playing in. It doesn't make any difference which format is picked as far as the tournament is concerned.

    No I know I was just presenting an opposing pov for the sake of discussion. If people want to ban that strategy that's fine.

    I mean... I'm fine with them. I don't know what other people think. Like Luxord said, there's basically no way we could stop you.

    Do we want to move this to a simulator like Showdown? I think it would take away from the experience but it would allow more people on khv to play.
    I would rather we not do this, but what do other people think?

    Basically.
    I'm pretty sure we decided actual games. I would personally like it to be on the games.

    Do we want to start banning certain play styles? Once we do that we start to tell people how to play the game and implementing regulations for the sake of diversity starts having the opposite effect.

    As the title suggests, there's very little (read: nothing) set in stone at this point, but we needed a place to discuss and plan seriously for this thing and a social group allows for this and more. In the original thread, we were discussing what rules or regulations we would like to implement, so, continuing that discussion here, what regulations do people want?

    Hayabusa suggested we follow these.
    I agreed, but also suggested that we exclude the Uber tier. Yes, no? Anything you would like to add?

    For those not familiar, the Pokemon metagame, according to Smogon (not all players follow Smogon's clauses), is broken up into tiers which attempt to give an equal playing field for all Pokemon. Pokemon in a lower tier can compete above them, though those in a higher tier cannot compete in a tier below them. Uber is the highest tier, and is basically made up of insanely over-powered Pokemon. You can look at Smogon's Uber list here, and I would also recommend looking at the other tiers as well.

    We don't have to adopt all of Smogon's rules, in fact I would rather we not, but they do succeed at defining what is over-powered and what is not, and I think for the sake of diversity and keeping this a casual, friendly competition, it's best we leave out the highest tier. Do you agree?

    Do you agree with the rules Hayabusa and I suggested? Anything else you would like to add?

    We also need to discuss the finer details of organizing and coordinating a tournament.

    discuss, discuss, discuss
