If I think the gameplay is fun I don't care. That is the be-all and end-all, definitive, bottom line for if I like a game.
Wow. BBS is the most boring of the kh games for me. I would play Days over it. I hate that gameplay. I like using regular attacks and combos and stuff and in BBS there's absolutely nothing there for that, compared to other games which allow you to customize your standard combos to an extent, or in DDD with flowmotion that breaks up the monotony regardless of it being a system that never changes. The ONLY thing you can do worthwhile in BBS is use commands, which are all watered-down variations of like five commands that all lead to some infuriating command style that I would rather not use but can't stop and the only way to stop it is to wait for the bar to cool down which interrupts the fast-paced gameplay that I play kh for. Magic is okay but not that fun. There are a handful of commands that stand out above the others but nothing really, truly cool like in DDD, which, by the way, has infinitely better commands and a better command deck system compared to BBS. Shotlocks are cool... The first time you use them and then they become just as boring as commands because they're all similar to another and are only good for dealing massive damage without being fun. D-Links. What even are those? They're not fun whatever they are. It's cool to have something other than summons I admit, but they're essentially command styles which I already said I would rather not use. And if I remember correctly most of them are made up of commands you already have, which totally defeats the purpose imo. People say kh2 is SPAM X TO WIN. Well how is BBS not SPAM TRIANGLE TO WIN? And something about the camera feels really awkward and I don't like the way the characters control. I really dislike the worlds. The Keyblade Graveyard is probably the single most disappointing thing in all of KH. The game just feels awkward to play and like you said it's tonally a very different thing, which I guess works for the story and what the game's supposed to be, but I don't like it. I realize the majority of people are not going to agree with me and there are probably reasons why what I'm saying is wrong but that doesn't change that it's not fun for me, which as I said is basically all that matters when I judge a game. Story stuff is fine but if I don't like the gameplay it's not worth it at all.

and it came out in ****ing 2010. like the worst year ever.

I just mean that kh1 having bad platforming affects my enjoyment literally not at all. Or like with kh2 or DDD which are apparently "bad games" or something, I don't know, I like anyway and have basically no problems with. Before I became active here the notion that kh2 is not the best game ever never crossed my mind. And kh being what it is for me helps me overlook any flaws. Except for BBS. I will gladly take any chance I get to rip into that game. I guess what I'm saying is that I don't know enough about games to be able to see problems like that, and I don't care enough to learn because games are not as important to me as they are to most people here. that's all.

totally. I still like KH and all but it's changed so much and part of me can't help but want a return to what it used to be. It was never the most grounded of stories, but I absolutely did not need any of the conceits beyond memories in CoM. The way data was used in kh2 was cool because it never seemed like something that needed explaining or expanding, but after Coded I don't even know what it is anymore. And dreams. psh.

I'm not enough of a "gamer" to care about what makes a game good or bad but gd there's sooo much sentimental and emotional weight to the game. Specifically everything revolving around Kairi. I never cared about Kairi after 1, but man, this game I was right there with Sora. And what makes it work so well is that we get to spend time with her and Riku at the beginning of the game and it's just enough for me to be as invested as Sora is. And it's sooo satisfying that Sora actually accomplishes his goal before the end of the game. The first time I played the game it kinda blew my mind that getting Kairi wasn't the end of the game, despite playing like it is in HB. Yeah, it kinda sucks that she's taken away again but idc. I don't know how this game does it, but it seems like everyone who played it has a certain specific nostalgia for it, regardless of when they played it.
