You also totally misread the question. Let me rephrase and expand on it: I assumed that the least bad thing to do for another Up movie would be a prequel. This is because a sequel or side story would create stories that simply aren't there while in a prequel there is already a story that could be expanded on even though doing so would ruin the point of that story. Considering that, what would be the least bad thing to do with it?

So what would minimize (the hypothetical) Up 2's no goodness?
AS I said, Up 2 would be no good regardless of what they do, but a prequel with Carl and Ellie would at least minimize the badness.
If Up 2 ever happens, it'll have to be a prequel about Carl and his wife. It'll probably be no good, but I'd watch it.
