Well...if you subscribe to a thread (which you can do either automatically or manually) it will turn bold in your CP when someone posts in it. To be honest I think that's the extent of what it needs to be, if you're interested in the thread still you'd most likely check to see if someone has replied to you or not when you see that someone has posted in it.
